Shopper : can this be found in local stores if so what store would carry these products Pec-Pads and Pec-12?ETHAN B : I've yet to see this in local stores; bought mine from Adorama, but a web search might indicate local sources for purchaseSANDRA K : i would think most camera stores carry it and maybe there's even a generic brand... it sure works great on my old slides! (use a filter-mask tho' so as not to inhale fumes.)MARK P : I have not found these at a local store. I find it much easier and more efficient of my time to order these online. Also if you don't live in New York (in the case of Adorama) you do not pay any sales tax
Shopper : Can I find this product(photo emulsion cleaner) at a store near me in new Orleans. I can only fine places to order online and need this for a project ASAP?ROBERT H : I have been unable to find any local photo stores or labs that carry PEC-12 or PEC non-abrasive wipes. Most large companies wont even ship the product. Adorama sells these products and ships with UPS. Order it and you should have it within three days. Its a great product for cleaning both positive and negative films. Good luck..... RHANDREW J : Most photography specialty stores carry emulsion cleaners, but perhaps not this one. As for one that is similar if they do not have it.JOHN K : I live in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia. I was unable to find it in either Richmond or Newport News\Norfolk\Virginia Beach. I bought in from Adorama, and as I recall it arrived by USPS in a couple of business days.

Pec-12 is invaluable for a lot of little jobs.

I love Pec-12 since I first came across it at a computer or photo show years ago. It really removes marks (such as Sharpie) off of film emulsion, glossy prints, and also removes sticky glue, etc. This is my “go to” solution in my studio. Too bad it’s gotten a bit pricey.

PEC-12 positive film cleaner

It is early summer here and I have not put a lot of time indoors using the product. I have cleaned only 1 dozen or so 35-mm slides. The product worked great. Three of the slides I had to give a second treatment. These slides have been in storage for 20 to 50 years. I am very pleased with the results of using PEC-12. I am sure that with experience I will be able to get them even cleaner. At this point I do have to use Photoshop to remove a few or up to a couple dozen dirt/hair spots.

Works great but Pricey

When paired with Pec-Pads, this is great for cleaning some of the grunge off prints for scanning. A bit pricey but little required for spot cleaning.

Great solutions for slide and negative cleaning

PEC-12 worked amazingly well in cleaning 30-60 year old slides and negatives. It evaporates very quickly and leaves no residue.

Good cleaner, could use better container

Safe cleaner for slides. Pretty volatile, probably necessary to avoid residue on slides, but can smell it even with container tightly closed. I leave it near an open window when not in use.

The only film cleaner that works

After three decades of producing chromes, mostly 35mm slide film on Kodak or FUJI film stock, I could not make reproduction ready scans without using PEC-12 Emulsion cleaner. PEC-12 was recommended to me by both Kodak and FUJI professional services.

Great stuff!

I have only used it once, but it did wonders on a picture that had scotch tape running down the middle, and ink smeared on it. Worked like a charm.

Clean Slides and Negatives

I use this product to clean my 35mm slides and color/black and white negatives prior to scanning them on my Canon scanner to a digital format. I am cleaning slides that I've had for 30 years and traveled with me when I was stationed in Hawaii and Okinawa. With humidity and the wear and tear of transporting them with all my household goods, they were in pretty bad shape. I needed somethig to clean them prior to scanning and the PEC-12 worked great. Make sure that you use this cleaner in a well ventillated area because it has a strong smell. The first time I used it my eyes were burning before I had cleaned the first 20 slides. Also, be sure to use a soft lint free cloth with the PEC-12 to achieve the best results.

Since 1983, PEC-12, Photographic Emulsion Cleaner has been trusted by the world's most prestigious photographers, labs, museums and publishers. Not only does PEC-12 routinely save many of their most valuable images, but it is the ONLY archival cleaner available. What good is cleaning an image today, only to have the emulsion slowly deteriorate over time? PEC-12 is a non-water based film and print cleaner which removes virtually all non-water based stains from color and B&W slides, negatives and prints. PEC-12 removes grease pencil, adhesive residue, finger oils, ball-point pen, fungus, smoke & soot damage, laser separation oil and most permanent inks. Containing no water, PEC-12 dries instantly with no emulsion swelling and leaves no residue.

PEC-12 is a waterless Photographic Emulsion Cleaner which is suitable for use on most film and print emulsions. It is a blend of organic hydrocarbon solvents with a neutral pH and is free from chlorofluorocarbons and chlorinated hydrocarbons. It dries instantly, leaves no residue and meets archival needs. Because it contains no water, PEC-12 will not cause emulsion swelling, tackiness, water marks or other damage associated with re-washing.

PEC-12 is designed to remove non-water based stains, grease, and inks from photographic emulsions and bases. It removes finger oils, grease pencil, adhesive tape residues, mildew, smoke and soot damage, gold foil stamp and most ball-point and permanent inks. It will aid in the removal of firmly affixed adhesive tape. Graphic arts applications include the easy removal of wax and rubylith.
