Questions & Answers

Katie R : I have an old bottle of this, it may be about 5 years old, maybe more. Will it still work? Also, should I stick with this brand, can I mix brands between developer/stop bath/fixer, and what would you guys recommend? I'm just starting out with m own darkroom, I only ever used the ones at school.WILLIAM T : Hi Katie -- I buy the materials for a dark room at a summer camp and we use this brand because it is relatively biodegradable compared to other brands. While it is suggested that its shelf life is about one year, we used last year's developer this year and it worked well enough for our purposes (prints were a little gray but that could be due to enlarger user 'error' as well). 5 years is significantly longer shelf time -- has it been opened? I would guess that it has oxidized enough at this point to be beyond usefulness. If it's been closed then I'd suggest giving it a try if it's been stored properly ... there's really only one way to find out if it works! As far as mixing brands for the different chemicals, that should be fine. Again, like I said, we stick with this brand throughout because it was recommended as having a slightly greener footprint. Best of luck with your new darkroom!KENNETH R : The container should be labeled with the shelf life. My opinion is that 5 years is too old, even if unopened. If it has been opened, I definitely wouldn't use it. You can mix different brands of developer, stop bath and fixer, however most mfg discourage it.DANIEL O : If the bottle is unopened it is possible that its still be usable. However it may not be the time to make sure it really works. (it could cost you a printing session) As for mixing brands. It makes no little difference that the stop and fix match.CARRIE F : I wouldn't use it if it's been opened. Check and see if it has started to turn brown, if it has it's definitely bad. It's unopened it might be OK, especially if it's been stored somewhere dark, like a closet or cupboard. As far as mixing brands, I don't know what effect that would have chemically, but most developers differ in developing time. I think Sprint is a great basic product and it has a long shelf life. I use their stop, fixer, and fixer remover for everything, but for show prints I really like Ethol LPD as a developer.R P : your old stuff may work, just make some tests and see, but it's not expensive, best just to get new stuff. yes, you can mix and match. make your own tests before committing to final prints
Shopper : Why Did You Choose This?ROBERT G : Best current paper developerDaniel C : I've used Sprint System of Photography chemicals for 30 years. Logical approach to chemistry. Clear & concise instructions for mixing & using. Consistent results.JANE T : This is the best print developer on the market!THERESA F : Sprint comes highly recommended by other art educators.STEPHEN M : Easy to use. Good shelf lifeDaniel C : This is a good developer, delivers consistent results and is less expensive than other chemistry. I've used it for over 30 years. No complaints.WALTER P : Price and size container.Daniel C : I've used this developer for 35+ years. It delivers consistent results & it's economical. It's got a range of times from 45 to 90 seconds. You can fine tune your print without highlights blocking up or mid-tones getting muddy. I normally develop for 1 minute, but I know it gives me some 'wiggle room' to get the result I'm looking for.YONGXIN D : For my classPHILLIP C : Trying this because of no metol.RICARDO M : Wanted to try a different developerDaniel C : This developer is cost efficient, easily mixed and produces repeatable and predictable results. I use it w/Ilford papers. It's been my go-to developer for 40 years.

Rated 5 out of 5

Great service, great products!

Happy to find that you are carrying Sprint chemicals. I have been using these for over 30 years and they are consistently the BEST! The company started near Providence, RI and I believe is still producing the product there. Sprint makes dilutions easy, which is especially important in teaching HS students. Adorama delivered product well before I expected it would arrive and saved me from running out before the end of the semester!

Good Substitute for Dektol

Now that the smaller quantity packages of Dektol are no longer made, this is a very good substitute as the concentrate is long lasting and you can mix it for use just as needed.

Bring your black and white photography to life with the Quicksilver Black & White Print Paper Developer. This high-quality, professional-grade developer is designed to produce striking neutral tones in your black and white prints, making it an essential tool for any serious photographer.

Unlike other developers, Quicksilver does not contain metol, a common ingredient known to cause skin rashes. Instead, it utilizes a unique developing agent, pyrazolidone-hydroquinone, which allows for precise control over print density, contrast, and color. This ensures that your prints maintain a consistent, neutral color from highlight to shadow, a feature that sets it apart from Dimezone solutions.

Moreover, Quicksilver's unique formulation ensures that development time does not affect the color of your prints, unlike metol-hydroquinone solutions. This means you can focus on capturing the perfect shot, knowing that Quicksilver will deliver consistent results every time.

For photographers using warm-tone papers, Quicksilver offers an added advantage. It imparts a more neutral color to these papers than other developers, enhancing the overall quality of your prints.

With Quicksilver, all image tones develop at a constant rate. This means that while overall print density increases with development, the contrast - the relative difference between highlight and shadow density - remains constant. This allows you to control overall density through exposure and/or development, while color and contrast are determined solely by the type of paper and grade or filtration you choose.

In summary, the Quicksilver Black & White Print Paper Developer is a reliable, effective, and easy-to-use solution for photographers seeking to produce high-quality black and white prints. Its unique formulation and superior control over print density, contrast, and color make it a standout choice in the market.
