Shopper : Does the lens "float" inside the doughnut or do you have to use threaded adapters and mount it to the lenses ?MARK S : The lens floats. There are flexible "donuts" that prevent light from behind the camera getting into the box. The most flexible type slips over the rear-most part of the box and is held by elasticity and the part going on the lens can be elastic or draw string tightened. There is not quite one-size-fits-all on the lens side, but if you don't have a huge range of lens diameters, for example a prime wide or normal lens and a fast huge zoom one would be enough.EMMA C : The lens floats inside the doughnut. We had to put black wrap around the doughnut to block light from leaking in between doughnut & lens, we were getting weird reflections off the filters.JACK Y : We have ours floating since we tend to change lenses during shooting. Just make sure that when you are zooming or pulling focus that the lens does not retract back past the back of the mattebox housing. Stray light then could hit the lens and defeat the purpose of the mattebox. Also make sure that the mattebox housing is centered perfectly around the lens so it doesn't drag on the lens when it's moving. Hope that helps.DAVE B : Use threaded adapters and there is no float or need for a lens doughnut that way you can use as a clamp on Matte Box or use with the rod riser support that goes under the box and onto the rods to stabilize!!STEVE H : A 72mm metal adapter (looks almost like a small lens hood-included with bellows) screws into the front of your lens. The adapter is then inserted into the rubber doughnut. The adapter ensures a tight seal.MATT K : Depends on the diameter of the lens. You might need to purchase the appropriate step down.

Fit Lens filter thread 82, 77, 72, 62, 67, 58 & 52mm (with appropriate adapter rings) Fit DSLR lens wide angle APS-C: 15mm & up. Full frame: 35mm & up (may work at wider angles on lenses with less than 77mm filter diameter; may also work on wider lenses if clamped directly on lens front)

Love this!

I love this! I wanted a compact, very functional matte box for my Canon DSLR video setup. I'm impressed with the well thought out design. The very adjustable flags do a great job of blocking stray light from hitting the lens and the two filter trays fit snugly in the main body of the matte box. I'd knock half a star off this review for two reasons: I bought the clamp on version and needed to order a separate adapter ring to fit my lens. This wasn’t noted in the product description. I contacted Cavision customer service and they were very helpful. But I still had to wait an extra week and a half to use the matte box. And reason two: one of the filter trays was damaged from the factory. But Cavision shipped a replacement filter when I ordered my adapter ring, free of charge. This matte box won't protect your camera. The flags are too delicate for that. But if you want a small, functional matte box that does its job, looks great and won't break the bank then this is a good choice.
