The Cokin +3 is great for hiking in the field. It cuts down on weight and bulk. However it isn't a macro lens or extension tubes. I highly recommend that you do use manual focus as auto focus gets confused when working close most of the time. The only problem I found was trying to stack two of the close ups together. There just isn't enough room. Also before you pack-up and go work with it at home first. Get use to it as you would anything.

I used this for a butterfly shoot at a local zoo with a Nikon D50. I tried it on several lenses and pictures came out sharp and clear w/o light loss, and autofocus worked perfectly with filter on. I have not done an enlargement over 5x7 but I believe the image would hold up to greater sizes. This is a great inexpensive alternative to a macro lens if you do not take a lot of close ups in your photography.
