Questions & Answers

GENE B : Is this Cokin P Series Circular Polarizer Filter made of Glass or Plastic?Timothy J : Hi Gene B, The P164 Circular Polarizer Filter is made from Glass. I highly recomend it for cutting out any unwanted glare, reflections and to give your landscapes that deep saturated blue sky. Hope this helps.RALPH Z : Glass.
Shopper : Is this "P" Series Circular Polarizer made of glass or plastic? …LEE O : Do not know. Must contact Cokin for answer.DAVID P : It is made of plastic. I bought it about 2 or more years ago, and it has no marks on it yet.JOHN I : It is glass.CARMEN C : It is glass.ELAINE O : It is made of glass and designed to slide into the P Series filter holder.DJORN C : The unit is made of glass, although great care must be used when inserting the filter into the holder, as you can unknowingly damage the glass when improperly inserted.WILLIAM C : Glass
Shopper : Can I use a regular circular polarizer and the Coking graduated ND filters ?RICHARD W : Only this version works with the P series holder. http://www.adorama.com/CKP164.htmlRICHARD SMITH J : Yes, but...it depends upon the diameter of your lens and the focal length; the wider the lens, the more likely you'll see some vigenetting caused by the Cokin filter holder. My Nikon VR 18-200 is fairly wide and with the circular polarizer in place and the Cokin on top, I can see a little bit of vigenetting at 18-20mm.JOEL B : Yes, they work well together. You can rotate the polarizer without moving the graduated nd filter. As long as you aren't stacking polarizers you should be fine.GLENN S : Yes, you can use a regular circular polarizer attached to the front of your lens. You would then attach the Cokin holder using the proper Cokin adapter and put the graduated ND filter in the Cokin holder. However, this would be an awkward combination. Once you rotated the polarizer to achieve the effect you want, it would probably be necessary to hold the polarizer and then rotate the Cokin holder to get the ND filter in the desired position. I use the combination of ND filter and circular polarizer but I have purchased the Cokin polarizer. This goes in the slot closest to the lens where it is easy to rotate and the ND filter is placed in a front slot. This combination is easy to use and works well.JOSEPH B : Yes, there are a number of manufacturers that make the "P" circular polarizer filters besides Coking. They will work together with no problem. However with circular polarizer filters there is a huge difference in quality. Most of the cheap ones don't work very well, they have very poor quality coatings. If you go with another maker get a high end filter.BERNARD C : You can use a regular circular polarizer and the Coking graduated ND filters. You must know the shortcomings. The major problem is vignetting, especially near the edges on wide angle lens. Telephotos from normal focal length and up should not be a problem. If you really need both of them together, by all means get a larger filter adapter, like the 4X4 or a 4X6 filter holder. The down side is that they are very expensive!SCOTT L : You certainly can, at least the way I do it. I don't even own a Cokin filter mount I just hand hold them in front of my lens so I have a lot more choice on where the graduation portion is. Anyway, there is no reason you can't use them in combination.LEE O : Yes. The polarizing filter has an effect on the optical plane in which light is reflected from a geographic plane on a surface. The neutral density filter reduces the quantity of photons of light which pass through the filter and lens which then reach the light receptor in the camera.DAVID B : Yes just be carefull of vignetting.on wide angle lenses.WILLIAM H : Yes, you can. Vignetting may be a problem though depending on the focal length of the lens.DAVID F : If you are talking about a Cokin polarizer and a Cokin graduated ND filter, yes for sure - the filter adapter can accommodate a couple of filters and you can rotate the polarizer and vertically adjust the ND filter to suit your needs. If you are talking about using the Cokin graduated ND filter with a non-Cokin circular polarizer, my answer is "probably". You would need to make sure that everything fits (i.e you can screw the Cokin ring into the circular polarizer) and that you can still rotate the polarizer and the Cokin system, which I suspect you can. One issue you may face is vingnetting. Depending on the focal length of the lens you may find that the Cokin system shows up at the edges of your frame. This is only likely to be an issue if you are using a wide angle lens. Good luckZEF S : The p mount screws into the lens stack so 2 issues need to be addressed. If you use a regular conventional polarizer into which a lens cap can be attached (has a front thread into which you could screw in another conventional filter) then you can screw in the p mount. If you a using a super thin polarizer without front threads then no. Second, since you attach the p mount to the front of the polarizer it becomes awkward to rotate the polarizer since it also rotates the Coking setup but on a tripod it is duable. Usually if I'm using the ND to darken the sky I usually don't use the polarizer.DENNIS E : YesJohn E : You can easily use these two products together. There are three slots in the filter holder so you can even use a combination of filters with the round polarizing filter.BRANDON S : Yes. The standard holder comes with three slots. The circular polarizer fits in the slot closest to the lens. The graduated nd filters can then fit in the front two slots.BARRY T : Polarizing filters and nd filters can be used together

So far, so good

I have used polarizers since the film days and when you need one, they can't be beat. However, using my screw-in polarizer with the Cokin system was awkward. This solves the problem. I can now easily combine a polarizer with a graduated neutral density filter to get the kind of skies I want.

Great Polarizer

Love this, gives great results and works well with the whole system to create what you see. Feels solid and hasn't gotten a scratch. My only recommendation to make it better would be to add rotating threads so it could be screwed directly to the lens. Would be nice for when you want to walk around with a polarizer but not the whole holder.

Super polarizer

Awesome polarizer. Have used linear polarizers for years...will never go back. Cokin, as always is a high quality product with a system that allowed me use the filters across lenses for different camera types.

Great Polarizer Filter

This is a great filter. I would recommend getting it. You only have to buy one filter for all your glass

Rarely out of my bag

It is very stiff and not easy to turn; the edge of the filter has a very small spot to grasp. I rarely use it at all. The main reason for the purchase was an economical way to put a polarizer on my 16-35 Canon L lens which can be expensive to fit with filters.

A hassle to use w/other filters

If you're stacking this filter with a grad ND, it can be a bit annoying; if you want to rotate the filter, it's very easy to rotate the entire holder. If you're stacking with a Grad. ND filter (or any other filter you don't want to rotate), however, you need to rotate the CPL within the filter holder. It's possible, but a bit cumbersome to do on the fly. Once set, however, the rubber ring on the CPL doesn't slip against the plastic holder. But you'll need to reset it every time you rotate the camera or the filter holder. Besides this fairly minor point, however, it does exactly what you expect.

Excellent Product

As with all Cokin products, this filter does exactly what it is supposed to do. Pops out clouds and darkens skies. Brings out intense colors, and is easy to turn and use for specific effects.

It does what it should

Bought this filter to go with my Cokin system so I don't have to buy a separate filter for each of my lenses.

Best Filter I have

I travel to Eurpoe every summer and I use the Cokin filter system exclusively because of the versitility it offers. The Polarizer filter is one of the best in my collection and I highly recommend it to anyone traveling. It works great in bringing out color and it works especially well with making clouds pop out ot the sky. If you want your travel photos to look professional and you want to capture more than just a average tourist shot, I would suggest you add this filter to your collection.

Works as expected

I have been using Cokin P filter holder for polarizer and 1 or 2 graduated gray filters for several years. Fantastic for landscape photos. Same filters for many lenses is a major plus. But to be able to slide a graduated filter up/down to just the right spot (instead of just rotating around the middle) is where the genius comes in. Just make sure your holder size works with your wide angle lenses. You might need a bigger size holder.

Good idea for multiple filter sized lens

It works well with Holder. It has the advantage of working with several different filter sized lens that I own. Less expensive than purchasing Polirizer Filers for several lens.

Are you seeking to enhance your photography with vibrant colors and increased contrast The P164 Circular Polarizer Filter, part of the esteemed P-Series, is your solution. This high-quality filter is expertly designed to manage the light rays that enter your camera lens. It selectively filters out polarized light, which is typically reflected off surfaces, thereby reducing unwanted glare and reflections.

Ideal for use with non-metallic surfaces such as water and glass, this circular polarizer filter is a game-changer for landscape and travel photography. It effectively saturates colors, making them pop, and boosts contrast, adding depth to your images.
