I already had a pair of the Hifiman HE4xx before I saw the open box sale for the HE560; they were quite good, but several reviews of the HE560 (made when the list price was still $900) intrigued me. At $230, I figured I couldn't pass them by. Out of the box they're already pretty good, but a little judicious EQ makes them quite impressive. The amount of EQ of course depends on the shape of your head and ears, but for me a little boost around 2k and a little cut around 4.5k transformed them into extremely accurate headphones. In fact, I also own a pair of Sundaras and the HE560 is surprisingly close in overall tonality. They're light, comfortable and easy to listen to for long periods. The bass is nearly flat without any assistance as long as the ear pads fit snugly, and the highs have plenty of content without being fatiguing. I really enjoy them.

I have the HiFiMAN HE1000 and EF-6 amp and have had the HE-6 and HE-500. I LOVE this HE-560 V2. The sound has that complete spectrum of deep, fast, accurate bass through great treble (though rolled off just a bit compared to my beloved Grados). I prefer my HE 560 V2 to my Sennheiser HD800 for music with heavy synthesized content, including Trans-Siberian Orchestra Christmas albums. The HD800 and Grados for me are preferable for natural acoustic music such as jazz and classical, though the HE560 V2 is exciting for these sources as well. The Version 2 is distinguished by metal brackets holding the earpieces (I understand that the original HE560 had plastic brackets subject to breakage. While the HE560 V2 requires a higher volume setting to achieve a given loudness than my non-HiFiMAN headphones, it can be driven to a reasonable volume by simply an iPod Touch Gen. 6. Its headband is sufficiently large...I use it in the middle range of position, and it is very comfortable.

This model came with a bad headband. They are now replacing ALL the headbands to fix it, so it's probably good now. I chose to RMA it before trying the fix, despite the souns being good.

For starters you need to get on Adorama's Flash Sale email list to snag the best deals before they are gone. To suffice to say I got these at way below what they are selling for now. The detail and imaging is stunning. They are open back phones so "bassheads" won't like them. They also are extremely inefficient so hard to drive. Forget portables, even with an amp. My Integra 5.1 receiver will not drive them to adequate levels. You need a high quality dedicated headphone amp. Do that and you will be in heaven.

I am using these headphones with and Ifi Idsd amp and so far these sound pretty good. They tend to be a bit bright but with some added bass boost or dsp they can be balanced out. The mids are pretty clean but can be a tad muddy at times depending on the music. The do need a lot of power to be aware that you will need an amp with some umpf. The headband is a much better desing than the previous model and is much more sturdy. They are very light on your head and are the lightest headphones I've had. Then again, they are planars. As for the ear pads I will probably upgrade to something full leather and I am not a huge fan of the velvet interior as it can be a tad hot and scratchy. They come with decent cables and its nice they are included with the headphones. I would not advise these for an office setting as they are semi open backed in the sense that you can hear pretty much everything that is being played when they are your head. Overall I am please with these so far. They feel solid, light and sound pretty good for the price.

Amazing headphones. The louder I turn up the music , the more I feel like I'm in the music. My last pair was a Sennheiser 280. Cheaper and lasted 10 years but there is no comparison in sound. These are not as sound proof but OMG the sound. I listen to classical guitar and hard rock. Good for both. I'm hearing instruments I didn't know where in the mix. Very Happy with this purchase. Delivery was fast and shipment was well packaged.

The HD 560 was burned in for 175 hours before a shoot out with the Sennheiser HD600 and Beyerdynamic DT880 Premium 250 ohm. Equipment used: Kimber USB Cable, ifi Nano iDSD DAC, Silver Serpent RCA Cables, Schiit Magni 3 Amp. Flac, DSD and mp3 sources reviewed. In 11 of 15 comparisons (Jazz, pop, classical, electronic music) the Sennheiser was deemed superior, two ties and two songs the HiFiman was deemed superior. Pluses for the HiFiman HD 560 were more detail and better decay of sound for strings. Generally Bass was muddier, sound less lush, less musical, less clean, less clear, less punchy, more veiled & less saturation compared with the Sennheiser HD 600. The HiFiman was more similar in sound to the Beyerdynamic DT 880 Premium - notes for this comparison deemed the HiFiman superior in 8 songs, tied in 1 song and inferior in 4 songs. In comparison to the Sennheiser HD600 which lists for significantly less than the HiFiman HD560 V2 I generally found the sound quality significantly inferior to the Sennheiser HD 600. If you listened to a lot of strings where the extension of the decay in sound for the strings is desired the HiFiman HE 560 might be a good choice as this is where I found they shined.

The new headband makes it hard for people with big heads like me, and driver design has less bass and highs than I remembered. loved the previous version but the headband kept breaking, I guess now headband can’t break on you.

Around headfi and reddit its been discussed how this headphones head strap is too short and as a buyer I completely agree. An adorama worker has informed us that they are bringing someone from hifiman to the warehouse to alleviate this problem. Until that is done however I do not recommend this product. I also hear a crinkling sound when putting on and taking off the headphones. Doesn't affect the sound.
