Will J : Does base detach? I would like to confirm if on this unit, are the 4 screws at the bottom of the base that are shown in the photo, is it possible if those were loosen, that I could then detach the black rubber piece, resulting in having 2 separate pieces? I have a older Photoflex Octobox that I use with another strobe, and when I mounted my octobox to those strobes there was a plate that appears to look just like the one in this photo but it does not have that wide base part with the 4 screws, which is where the rods connect to. I have the D2 profoto now, but i just need the speedring that will slide onto barrel of my profoto and the other end will be the thin, flat, round plate that I would connect to my octobox and tighthen down with the 4 screws it has. So if I could verify that this item could be separated into 2 pieces, this might be what I have been looking for?JOHN B : Profoto gear is amazing, but pricey. I can understand why you'd want to know before you buy. I just took a look at my speed ring again. If you remove those 4 screws the outer ring of the speed ring would come off completely. If you were to do that with the softbox attached the softbox would still be connected to that outer ring and you'd have the rubber portion with the 'hose clamp' and a thinner metal ring attached. If you can be certain that the four screw holes in this new unit will fit the screw holes in the other half of your old unit, it should work out just fine. You may also find that this connector is already equipped to handle your octabox. There are enough holes in the outer portion of this speed ring designed for the Photoflex rods that I wouldn't be surprised if your octabox can connect beautifully onto this without taking it apart. I think it's worth a try.

Not gold plated, but not the price of gold either

This device just gives you a place to put your softbox rods into. I don't work all day with these devices, so I can't say if it is as durable as the ones costing 3-4 times as much. I can say that they fit on my B1 strobes just the same as the name brand ones do and hold large soft boxes in place.

Works Great!

Works great, only issue is not just with this product, but all Profoto attachments use this rubber system, which is very strong, and secure, but can be difficult to mount to strobe when up in the air trying to attach a large softbox. Needs fiddling/wiggling to get it on, especially if you're trying to push ing up to the 10 marker on the Profoto's. Best suggestion is to put the softbox on the floor, put the strobe face down into it, then once attached securely, put it back on the stand.
