Upgraded from a WD Red 4TB 256cache 5400rpm drive to this 16tb Red Pro running at 7200rpm w/512cache. The 4TB drives buffered 4k videos so bad I couldn't watch. These new 16th 7200rpm drives are streaming 20gb 4k videos without breaking a sweat. Enjoy.

The drive was DOA - dead on arrival. Very disappointed.

Arrived well before anticipated date. Have not removed the drives from their boxes yet to do any sort of analysis. I would like to see them packaged better in the future, given the way some mail carriers handle our packages.

Bought on Cyber Monday sale on WD website. Only after purchase was informed Drive was on Back Order. If I had known drive was Back Ordered, then I wouldn't have purchased. Now 3 weeks later, told drive isn't available and will get a refund. Missed Cyber Monday deals due to WD's dishonesty. Congratulations WD, you just lost a lifelong WD customer and fan.

WD's internal databases need to talk to each other better. I cannot review a drive that has not been shipped to me yet.

I bought this drive to use on a standalone SATA Seagate Thunderbolt stand. It made a horrendous amount of racket, never mounted on my Mac. Tech support told me to call Seagate for support on my old TB drive mount. They said that these drives are forNAT only but SATA is SATA and my other WD drive with ^GB spec has worked fine for years in the same slot. They were unable to answer my question about why a SATA drive like this is any different from another. I was able to return the drive but not get a replacement.

1/4 didn't work. HGST has better QC. Bought 4x16TB drives, 3 of them booted up, one didn't. Then when I went to RMA it, they said it was out of warranty. What a joke. So after waiting 3 weeks for them to ship the drives, they're out of warranty and making me wait longer to get a replacement while they figure out their side of the house. Nice.

Found it was very easy to expand storage inside my PR 2100 Raid1 storage box. I went from 8 TB to 16 TB and it took the system 18 hours to transfer all data. Process was: 1. Log into drive dashboard. 2. Turn off all installed apps. 3. Click on storage, auto rebuild on, RAID Mode 1, then Expand Capacity, and press Next. 4. Follow on-screen instructions. 5. Turn apps back on and you are done! Note that you will have to keep logging back in due to dashboard time outs in order to check progress of storage expansion.

I was able to order two of these with great price. They were delivered much faster than I expected and very well pacakged. Extended smart test shows no errors. Highly recommend!

Installed 8x of the 16TB into my TrueNas box. Upgraded from 8TB drives to these, RAIDz2 setup, 83TB of usable storage. I suspect this amount of storage will last a good 8 years before I could need the next upgrade. Been 2 months so far and no problems, and knowing WD I probably won't have any.

After one month the drive has performed as expected. No issues during installation or formatting. Bought 2 16Tb drives to use in Synology nas, using Synology Hybrid RAID.

Out of 2 ordered drives, one has failed (from the sounds it makes, it suggests a mechanic failure) during RAID rebuild, sending it into the death spiral. Now I have to deal with the return and ordering a replacement. I am yet to run complete test on the other one(s). Although a hassle, customer service was helpful so far and I hope that the discount price will be honored when I will order a replacement.

Western Digital has been my go to drive for consistency and reliability. While not perfect - their drives deliver when i need them and when an issue occurs - i know that i have a 5 year warranty to cover me.

Purchased 6 of these and installed them in a Synology NAS. Everything went smoothly and they have, so far, performed as expected. Running non-stop for about a month so far.

Although a large storage drive, it is slow and noisy. Causes the computer to react very slowly when on.

It is a good drive, for a good price, packaging and shipping is extremely disappointing. It came in anti static foil and thin cardboard box, two drives moving around the box. I see it as no physical damage protection, during transport. They are a bit noisy, not sure if it is due to bouncing around too much during shipping or just noisy due to size.

Dead on arrival. I was super excited to get my NAS up and running for the desperately needed memory. Well that did not happen. I had a hard time returning the hard drive. I called multiple times to get a RMA, but their phone just kept ringing busy and hung up on me. Finally, I was able to return the product.

Designed specifically with SMB customers in mind, WD Red Pro drives are available for up to 24 bay medium to large-scale 24x7 NAS environments.
NAS for Big Business
Increase the efficiency and productivity of your business with WD Red Pro hard drives for up to 24 bay NAS systems. WD Red Pro comes equipped with NASware 3.0, which increases system compatibility allowing for seamless integration with your existing network infrastructure. Add value to your business by enabling your employees to quickly share their files and back up folders reliably with WD Red Pro NAS hard drives in your NAS solution.
Exclusive NASware 3.0 Technology
Our exclusive advanced firmware technology, NASware 3.0 enables seamless integration, robust data protection and optimal performance for NAS systems operating under heavy demand.
Built for Optimum NAS Compatibility
Desktop drives aren't purpose-built for NAS. But WD Red Pro drives with NASware 3.0 technology are purpose-built for NAS. Our exclusive technology takes the guesswork out of selecting a drive and balances performance and reliability in NAS and RAID environments. Simply put, a WD Red Pro drive is one of the most compatible drives available for medium to large NAS enclosures. But don't take our word for it. WD Red Pro drives are a reflection of an extensive NAS partner technology engagement and compatibility-testing resulting in a leading compatibility list for NAS systems.
Larger NAS Bay Shock Protection
In a Network Attached Storage device, a desktop hard drive is not typically designed for NAS environments. WD Red Pro drives are equipped with a multi-axis shock sensor that automatically detects subtle shock events and dynamic fly height technology which adjusts each read-write function to compensate and protect the data. This combination of technology further protects the drives in larger 1 to 24 bay NAS environments and helps increase hard drive reliability.
