I was looking for a replacement for my Celestron 8X35s that had mysteriously disappeared, and these seemed perfect for my specific needs. Turns out they are, and are superior to the pair I had lost. The lens covers have little rings on them, so when removed they just dangle down (and are thus never lost). The "feel" of the binos while holding them is comfortable and steady. The image is diamond sharp right to the edge of the field of view, no matter the distance. First class optics! They are easy to focus (and re-focus, if you are looking rapidly from object to object at differing distances). The case with shoulder strap is easy to carry. I find them ideal for observing wildlife on short walks through the woods near my house. However - I would not advise these for serious, overnight hiking. The weight (18 oz.) and size make them more appropriate for a casual day hike (the kind I engage in). Backpackers might want to consider something smaller and more lightweight (and thus the 4 stars rating, rather than 5 - and that's the only reason - otherwise, 5 stars all around).
