The CGX 800 HD boasts an 8-inch aperture and is equipped with our premium StarBright XLT coatings. This combination provides over 800 times the light gathering power of the naked eye, making it the most portable and lightest telescope in its class.

The EdgeHD is an aplanatic, flat field Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope designed to produce aberration-free images across a wide visual and photographic field of view. Its optical system is engineered to reduce more than just off-axis star coma; it also provides an astrograph-quality flat focal plane all the way to the edge of the field of view.

Unlike many optical designs that claim to be "astrographs" but only produce pinpoint stars across a curved focal plane, EdgeHD optics produce a focal plane more than three-times flatter than a standard Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope and dramatically flatter than competing coma-free designs. This ensures visibly sharp stars across some of the largest CCD chips available today.

The telescope tube has been redesigned to maximize your optical experience every night. It features mirror clutches with flexible tension that hold the mirror in place and reduce image shift during long exposure astro-images. The tube also includes cooling vents on the rear cell that allow hot air to be released from behind the primary mirror. Each vent has an integrated 95-micron micromesh filter, ensuring warm air is let out without letting dust in.

The CGX 800 HD is Fastar-compatible, allowing the secondary mirror to be removed and replaced with a third-party lens accessory for ultra-fast f/2 wide field imaging. Each EdgeHD that ships has been tested for surface quality of each optical component, as well as with a camera and artificial star to ensure the imaging system meets our rigorous quality assurance.

The CGX mount is a culmination of Celestron's years of experience in designing German Equatorial mounts. It's designed to better support your telescope for both visual and astro-imaging pursuits. The mount features a lower profile EQ head for a more compact and stable setup, a better drive system, easier polar alignment adjustments, and improved cable management.

The computerized mount features include an all-new design that is sturdier and more rigid with quicker dampening time, improved motors for better slewing and tracking under heavy loads, and an internal cabling system for worry-free remote operation. The mount also includes home and limit optical sensors, internal hard stops for both axes, and brand new control software developed in conjunction with PlaneWave Instruments for professional level control operation and imaging.

The improved tripod includes 2" steel legs with height index marks for quick leveling, a "Jack of all trays" for holding eyepieces and other accessories, and an adjustable EQ head position to optimize the center of gravity over the tripod.

The CGX 800 HD also features improved ergonomics with two handles for easy transport, ergonomically designed dovetail clamping knobs, and an innovative polar alignment adjustment system. The electronics include a new NexStar+ hand control with a USB port, two AUX accessory ports, a USB 2.0 port for direct PC connection, an autoguider port, and a threaded 12VDC power input barrel connector.
