Superb counterweight construction. No sharp edges, stacks nicely with others, nylon anti-marring tightening lug. I line mine with thin flocking that avoids scratching the chrome plated dec shaft on the off sides of the tensioning lug. This works very well on my CGEM mounts and C11 SCT where I need three of these for balance. This fits other mounts with like dec shafts. See image as used on CGEM II.

The counterweight was exactly as advertised. The most important thing was the way it was shipped. Adorama double wrapped it in dense Styrofoam and then placed it in a box, inside a box. The weight arrived still intact within the inner box even though the outer box was damaged.

Arrived in good condition. But, it?s still a hunk of metal with a screw in it to hold it in place. So not much to say it works. The price was good so I would recommend.

It weighs 12 lbs and has a lock screw... oh yeah its black too! The only drawback was packaging. Need more clear tape to hold the box closed, the ups dork dropped it and the package was open when i got home. a couple of spots had scuffed off the black paint but a sharpie pen fixed that.

Grabbed this after adding my guide scope to my 12 lb OTA, since I wanted to keep my finder scope on it also, and added another dovetail bar on top. Initially, I swapped the bar Orion sent me with my OTA with a Celestron all-in-one type, which was noticeably heavier. Immediately, I had balancing problems, and this was the perfect option to provide the right balance with room for a slightly heavier OTA. The plastic insert under the screw, which touches the metal bar on the mount (mine is AVX) was actually better on this than the one on the OEM weight, which had come undone from the screw after unscrewing it a few times. I've not had any balancing problems since, and the CW is about 2/5's up the bar from the outer-most point, so there's plenty of room in either direction.

I purchased a Celestron AVX from Adorama...still learning how to use it but seems easy. I mounted a GSO 8" cassegrain on it so needed an extra counterweight. Adorama had the best price in the industry! Perfect match for the one that came with the AVX and balances my GSO perfectly with a few pounds to spare. Incredibly fast shipping and a fabulous price. Adorama asked for a review, so here it is. As advertised, it is a counterweight. It is flat on two sides and round at the edge. It is painted a semi-glossy black. It works to counterbalance my 9.25" SCT and new accessories I added recently. Although it is advertised as 11 pounds, mine weighs 11 pounds 2 ounces, so I got more than I paid for. I'm keeping it and not paying for the extra 2 ounces, so there, ha ha.
