I used the chat recently and they did help resolve my question...even followed up with email. I used this product for the 2017 solar eclipse and it worked really well. It fit on my Celestron 8” SCT nicely (in the same manner as the end cover that comes with the scope).James E : These should last indefinitely if properly cared for. Don't touch the filter surface, and store it safely in its protective box, so that you won't need to subject it to cleaning. Any punctures or scratches would call for replacing.Rafael M : As long ass you don't break it should work, doesn't wear out...JULIUS F : The filter is extremely well-made. I have been using mine regularly since August 2017 and it still looks new and functions well. By the looks of it, as long as one takes good care of the filter, it should last for many years to come. Additionally, I did not see any details about the useful life of the filter from the Celestron specifications information. So it appears to me that as long as the filter is free of scratches that may reduce its functionality, it should be fine. If I were to notice any scratches, since I always inspect it before putting it to use, I will definitely not use it and will get a new one. However, as of now, mine is free of scratches after about 8 months of regular use.

Celestron Solar Filter

I enjoyed making my own solar filters for telescopes and binoculars last summer prior to the total eclipse, but for my nice Celestron EdgeHD OTA the proprietary solar filter with the bezel that clicks right into the telescope is really nice. Looks sharp. I tracked the sun all day soon after the filter arrived, and it handled the heat well.
