DY C : Would this microscope be good for looking at pennies in detail and taking a picture of them to share with other penny collectors?ANDREW I : Not really. The top-down illumination does a poor job of showing edge detail. You would need to disable the build-in LEDs and do your own lighting. Also, the software is marginal at best. A good macro lens on a digital camera would be a better investment, IMHO.BRYAN F : I haven't used it for this purpose, but I imagine so. It is very flexible, and the LED's light up your subject very well. Focus can be dialed in quite easily. Everyone that I demonstrate this microscope to is jaw-dropping impressed at it's capabilities for such a small amount of money. Get it and you won't be disappointed.SANDRA C : Yes it's good have fun. JohnLAWRENCE E : I own one of these, and I think it would be excellent for that purpose. I use mine to examine the optics of telescope eyepieces when cleaning and servicing them. However, it seems to me that it would be excellent for creating magnified images of coins and photographing them. Lots of other fun applications, too. Good luck with your decision.PATRICIA M : Yes I take pictures of things I am selling that are too small for me to describe so I use the microscope. The clarity is fantastic and very helpful. I have taken pictures of coins, spoons (collectible kind), I even took a picture of a tooth that was bothering me. The uses are endless and I highly recommend this product.ROBERT G : Yes you would be able to I use it for numismatic purposes and I have a friend who uses the photo for eBay listing very detailed I also use it to see the currency details on older billsRONALD R : Yes it would be great for looking at details of coins. You could also thake a magnified picture of the coin and store it.
Shopper : Looking to photo the iris of the eye with fiber detail including fiber depth. need crisp shots and unit needs to have adjustable lighting. Also, is the trigger for the picture on the unit or can you use the software as I'd prefer the camera not move when shooting the picture. Is this good for this? Any other recommendations appreciated.ROBERT G : I use my on coins and I use the software
to take my picture I find it okay to use
on a coin I could not tell you if it is going
to work on the iris of the eye this does not
have adjustable lighting and it is very bright
it has about 6 led light very bright. I hope
this helps you out.ANDREW N : I bought this more as a "something to have fun with" rather than for any serious purpose, so I have not had opportunity to get too picky - the depth of field is tricky to deal with for the "pretty" pebbles my daughter found, but that shuld not be an issue for you. The photos you take should be OK, but I cannot tell you if it will give the level of detail for which you are looking. The "shutter" can be triggered from the camera or the computer. For the cost, it is a good deal.MATHEW Z : I use a Mac. The trigger is inoperative with a mac. You just use photo booth and click on the "snap picture" icon on the computer. The Mac recognizes the camera automatically. As far as taking a pic with PC, I assume software could easily image capture separate from the physical button. Adjustable lighting is difficult. You must manually coverup the LEDs built into the unit. They are bright and can wash out objects/color differences. The clear plastic is not removable, so you have to reach down into the unit and place dark stickers or something over the LEDs.TAMARA R : Hi there, this item doesn't have an option to turn on/off the light. It is on as soon as you connect it to your computer and there is no option to turn it off or adjust the brightness. It's really bright with 6 tiny LED bulbs and would for sure create reflection on the eye in your image. Yes, you can either snap the picture with a button on the end of the scope or you can use your mouse to click and snap a picture without touching the scope. Also, not confident that this will get as good and close up image of the eye as you want. Hope that helps.BRYAN F : This unit does not have adjustable lighting. If this is a living eye on a person (as opposed to a disected eye, like from a cow as part of a biology lab), I don't think that this is the right device for you. But to answer your last question, yes you can take a picture from the software as well as from the button on the unit.SANDRA C : It is best to use software to take good pictures, and don't have to push button on microscope. There is no light adjustment on this microscope. John( Sandy's brother)
Shopper : I'm trying to decide what to get. Why did you pick this one?DAVID D : Mostly because of the very reasonable price. But after using it I find that it really works well and is a quality item for the price.THOMAS R : I seen this product used by someone in the farming community to check some of the crop seeds for disease. i was amazed by how it enlarged the seed for viewing. I am in the turbine engine repair and though it would be a great way to inspect parts smaller parts that have cracks, sulfidation,on a computer screen which makes it earier to view than by eye sight. You can save in a file or forward to your enginnering dept for further inspection, etc. Easy to use and for the money you can't beat it.ANDREW K : I need to take macro pictures of very small objects (5mm or less) and doing it with a standard point-and-shoot 10MP digital camera was not working out because I could not hold it steady enough and it was frustrating.
However, although the quality of photos taken with this is better, or, rather than better, I could zoom in to higher mag, the issue is that the stand that you pay extra for is complete----complete----garbage. Not all rotation points have a tightening mechanism/screw so it ends up getting loose and not holding in 1/2 the positions that you need it to work for. Other than that, if you just want to use it as a handheld, it's just fine. As for me, I will seek to construct a device for a professional camera so that I can take birdseye macros with the camera hovering right above the object. I'll be much better off.ROBERT G : I liked the portability and the magnification power for looking at coins and paper money. The clarity is awedomeMYRNA B : I would spend a little more money to get a better microscope.
I use a Mac 10.6.8 and it's not compatable.
