Questions & Answers

Shopper : how tall is the tripod and does it have rubber feet ?Connie P : The tripod extends from 26" to 52". The bottom part of the leg allows you to use at tripod at 26" for use on a table or up to 52" for use on the floor. The bottom is a non skid rubber type of material. Am using mine on a hardwood floor without any problems.
Jeff A : Does the 102 AZ accept 2 inch eyepieces or just 1.25?NICHOLAS J : Only 1.25" eyepieces.
Tim P : Is Celestron XLT 102m AZ adequaye for lunar & planetary viewing or should I get longer focal ratio?G. W : Tim..this is a relatively short focal ratio for wide field views. With a 6mm eyepiece you would have 110x. In this price range for lunar and planetary detail, I would consider a 90mm or 100mm Maksutov that will be f12 or so. 1200mm focal length with a 6mm eyepiece would be200x clear skies....wayne

A lotta bang for the buck.

Very nice scope for the price, with few comparable offerings from competitors. Good build quality for us typical amateurs. Rather delicate weight balance with this particular alt azimuth design. The slow motion controls can be quickly be thrown off should you add weight towards the back with an added finder scope or even a heavier eyepiece. I’m happy enough leaving well enough alone because this is a pretty sweet deal to begin with. A good value.

Glad I spent a little more for my introductory scope

Although I purchased for land observation found myself gazing into the stars. Great features, great price and service

I think this scope offers solid value despite its few shortcomings

The Omn XLT 114 OTA in this configuration is a mixed bag. On the one hand, the optical quality is excellent - the moon is razor sharp in detail and difficult to split double stars can be resolved (when using high powered eyepieces). Even the supplied eyepiece seems to be high quality judging from its deep green anti-reflection coating and the sharp views it provides. The mount too is surprising good - stable, relatively easy to move the OTA around, and has fine adjustment cables that function well. On the other hand, the scope does have a few shortcomings. The finder scope is terrible - the concentric red rings it projects on the target merge together in a large red blob that actually obscures the target. The mount offset arm that holds the scope is not long enough which prevents the scope from pointing straight up (about 74 degrees max). Note that there is an allen wrench hidden in the base of the mount which can be used to attach the adjustment cables. The scope's focuser racks up and down smoothly, but it has so much side-to-side play that collimating the scope using one's eye or a collimation cap (not supplied) is a challenge. The adjustment screws on the back of the scope are almost impossible to turn. The scope should be supplied with an additional eyepiece or Barlow lens (contrary to the web page description, a 3x Barlow is not supplied). At the current price of just under ($), I think this scope offers solid value despite its few shortcomings. .

OMNI AZ MOUNT
For years, Celestron's Omni equatorial mount has set the industry standard for elegant design. With this new addition to the lineup, our engineers have brought that same level of sophistication to an altazimuth mount. Designed from the ground up, it's our best manual AZ mount ever.

Worm gears on both axes provide smooth, easy motion when tracking targets. Plus, you'll find slip clutches in both axes for quick and easy pointing. A sturdy aluminum tripod anchors Omni AZ and stabilizes your images. Your Omni AZ comes together in just minutes with a simple, no-tool setup.

STUNNING VIEWS, DAY TO NIGHT
Omni AZ is the ideal telescope for day-to-night observations. A dual-position arm can be raked back for pointing higher in the sky, or adjusted to point downward for viewing objects at or below the horizon. Perfect for balconies, high windows, and observation decks, Omni provides stunning views of wildlife, landscapes, and more. Plus, its beautiful design makes it a showpiece in any room.

HIGH QUALITY XLT OPTICS
Celestron's Omni family has always been synonymous with bright, clear views. You'll find the same high quality optical components in our new AZ telescopes. All optical surfaces on the Omni XLT AZ 102 are fully coated with XLT optical coatings. This proprietary technology found on our observatory-grade telescopes ensures maximum light transmission and Omni's signature crisp views.

The 102 mm refractor provides enough light-gathering ability to view all the best celestial objects in the solar system and beyond. The telescope's wide field of view allows you to appreciate extended objects such as the Pleiades Star Cluster, Andromeda Galaxy, or simply panning the Milky Way. Some telescopes can invert or flip your subjects, but Omni XLT AZ 102 includes erect image optics for correctly oriented images. Your Omni AZ telescope also includes a high-quality 25 mm Plossl eyepiece.

LOCATING OBJECTS IS EASIER THAN EVER
From a perching shorebird to a distant galaxy, zero in on your subject quickly and accurately with our all-new StarPointer Pro reticle finderscope. Instead of a red dot, which can obscure your target, StarPointer Pro projects a dual circle reticle. Place your subject in the center of the circles, and you're ready to view it with your Omni AZ telescope. It's that easy.
