Very impressive telescope, good value, good service.

I am very impressed with the capability of this SCT so far. The 8" SCT combined with the CGEM II mount has been a great combination for my introduction to deep space photography. I still have a long learning curve to overcome but the telescope has provided some breathtaking observations already.

Excellent optical tube

The tube arrived in great shape, carefully packaged, and is collimated well as far as I checked thus far. (For instance, it produces clear and sharp images of terrestrial targets like a distant sign or tree, incl. eben and natural colors. One warning: this tube comes with an extended visual back preinstalled, which is great - except that it means that it will not fit into the Celestron case that it should fit in (the smaller one that takes tubes up to and including 8? SCT?s like this one. Since no port cover is included, I ordered a short visual back that I can close with the included 1.25? plastic cover that did come with the tube for its extended visual back.

Great Scope

Great scope. Works well on my Skywatcher EQ6-R, with ASI294MC Pro, EFW, EAF, ASIAir Pro, Pegasus power distribution box, Celestron Dew Shield. All works together with minimum issues.

OTA is perfect. Included accessories, not so much

The OTA Is top notch. Quality build and looks really nice. The included accessories are pretty worthless for observational use. The included 90 degree diagonal, OTA SIDE, moves on its own when slewing with the two tension screws. You really gotta crank those puppies down really tight. It Does the same on the eyepiece side with eyepiece inserted. The finder scope is ok if you are contortionist. It CAN NOT be used as a auto guide later because all the sizes are from a different planet so nuthin sold would work. The CGEM eq mount is very well constructed and supports the 8hd flawlessly. Just add in all the upgrades you need to make it enjoyable and Clear Skies.

Great telescope

Great telescope but there is a pretty steep learning curve to climb before using it. I highly recommend the StarSense auto alignment accessory to make alignment automatic.

This advanced Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope offers an aplanatic, flat field design that ensures aberration-free images across a wide visual and photographic field of view.

Unlike many optical designs that claim to be "astrographs", the EdgeHD Optical Tube Assembly goes beyond producing pinpoint stars across a curved focal plane. It provides an astrograph-quality flat focal plane right to the edge of the field of view. This feature guarantees visibly sharp stars across some of the largest CCD chips available today, making it an ideal choice for digital camera use.

The EdgeHD optics produce a focal plane that is more than three times flatter than a standard Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope and dramatically flatter than competing coma-free designs. This superior edge performance not only creates rounder, more pleasing stars but also improves the resolution and limiting magnitude when compared to telescopes of equal aperture.

The telescope tube has been redesigned with mechanical features to optimize your viewing experience. It includes mirror clutches with flexible tension that hold the mirror in place and reduce image shift during long exposure astro-images. The tube also features cooling vents on the rear cell, allowing hot air to be released from behind the primary mirror. Each vent has an integrated 50-mesh filter to ensure that warm air can escape without letting dust in.

The EdgeHD Optical Tube Assembly is the most versatile imaging telescope available today. It is Fastar-compatible, allowing the secondary mirror to be removed and replaced with a third-party lens accessory for ultra-fast f/2 wide field imaging.

Every EdgeHD that ships has been individually tested for the surface quality of each optical component, as well as with a camera and artificial star to ensure the imaging system meets our rigid quality assurance.
