Questions & Answers

Shopper : Will I be able to see stars and planet other than just the moon?ANDREW R : In theory, yes.
Shopper : Is this a table top?Ken F : Depends if you extend the legs out. With the legs in, it would fit on table.ANDREW R : Tripod is a "full size" unit.
Shopper : What do I need to attach this to a Nikon d3100 camera?FILIP S : Theoretically you could - by using a 1,25"-male T2 adapter (none at the moment at Adorama) + T2-Nikon Adapter (e.g. <a href="http://www.adorama.com/RKT2AI.html)." target="_blank">http://www.adorama.com/RKT2AI.html).</a> But the focuser on this scope is very delicate (all plastic), wobbly and in no way capable of supporting a DSLR body. I bought it specifically for astroimaging (exactly the focal length I needed), but I use a matchbox-sized CCD camera (and even with it the focuser tube sags a bit). Overall, it gives good images, but cannot really support anything beside the included small, light diagonal and eyepieces.ANDREW R : Most likely you will a T-adapter ( <a href="http://www.adorama.com/CNTAB.html" target="_blank">http://www.adorama.com/CNTAB.html</a> ) and the appropriate T-mount ( <a href="http://www.adorama.com/LNTMNK.html" target="_blank">http://www.adorama.com/LNTMNK.html</a> )

This scope does the job well for the price.

After my family happened onto a stargazing group in December, I knew we needed a telescope, but didn?t want to break the bank to get started. After reading other reviews, I chose the Travel scope 70 and so far have been surprised by what this one can do for the cost. The scope is very lightweight and packs easily into its backpack. Set up is easy, and bring a chair if your taller than 5?5?. Tripod is a little short, and wish it was a little more solid on fixing it?s position. Have to find the star or planet and then lock it in a bit higher and let it settle back onto the object. But for the cost, it?s not a deal breaker. Best of all, with a little practice, I got a pretty good picture of the moon, and have seen Jupiter with some of its bigger moons and Saturn?s rings. Pretty impressed with that.

OK out of box, room for upgrades...kinda needs upgrades, tripod especially.

The good: - The telescope itself is alright. There's a little chromatic fringing noticeable around the edge of the Moon, but I've had good views of the Moon, the Pleiades, and the Orion Nebula, for example. - Nice to have the cell phone mount and remote shutter button. Much easier to take good space photos without having to tap the screen. The not-so-good: - The tripod. It's just about adequate for holding the telescope on its own, but the imbalance of adding the cell phone mount and a cell phone is too much for it to bear. There's almost no transition on the clutch between "slack" and "fixed (but not quite)". The ugly: - The remote shutter button has a blue LED that is really, really bright. If you're going observing at night, consider putting a little masking tape over it.

Perfectly Happy

This was a gift for my 6 year-old grandson, so I was unable to see the product in real time. However, my daughter was pleased with the quality. She struggled a bit with the assembling of the product, but with help from her dad via FaceTime, she was able to get it put together. The company was a pleasure with work with. I knew when I bought it, there was a backorder. The company kept me apprised of the status. I would recommend this company.

Good scope, but tripod let's you down.

Very reasonable beginner telescope. The tripod really lets this setup down, though. It's barely adequate to hold the scope stable, but adding a cellphone to the mix makes it a bit precarious.

Beautifully packaged

The product is well packeged, easy to use. I'm impressed by the amount of extras it includes. It's great for the amateur astronomer. For its weight and price I think it does a lot and it's truly portable.

no good

A full moon last night and I can't get the moon in the image, it keeps racing back and forth past it. I'm bummed I can't use it and am sending it back. I tried for 20 minutes after setup to no avail. Forget the cellphone adapter it's a hunk of junk!

Great for on the go!

Awesome little scope! You'll get a big surprise when you look through it! Great for cruising the night time skies! Easy to manuver around and adjust. Would be nicer with a taller tri-pod but for kids or shorter people it's perfect. I'm 5'10". I've had 60mm and 70mm and a 114mm refractor and by far this is the easiest to use! Just grab N go, light weight, easy to carry outside through the doorway. I've long since up-graded to better lenses and a correct image 90* diagonal but I also use them on other scopes i have. This is not the biggest scope but it's the one I use the most!

Great for a starter telescope

I bought this for my 9-year-old nephew, and tested it before I gave it to him. It's great for looking at the moon, and is sturdily built for being so inexpensive. I was worried that he wouldn't be able to operate himself, but it's simple enough to use that he can. He's enthralled by it. The manual says that you can see features on Mars, the rings around Saturn, and the moons of Jupiter. I haven't put it to those tests yet.
