Questions & Answers

Shopper : How does this compare to the quality of view that you get from the Celestron Eyepiece and Filter Kit EP's?GLENN S : This has been a great addition to my gear.Great to be able to take a few eyepieces for travel etc. This is a great one for that.FLOYD W : Not quite as good (detail, field of view) for dim objects ,but the convenience out-weighs that small problem ! I love mine ! If I could afford a televue I would but for me , celestron version works well and so affordableLevent T : The quality of view is good. The view is comparable with standard Meade and Celestron eyepieces.
Norikazu N : For this product Item model number 93230 ?GLENN S : This eyepiece is a great addition to my telescope use.Definatley recomend it.Did not see a question posted.Sorry.PHILIP B : Yes the model number is 93230.EDDIE W : Pretty good
Tom M : How does one connect a DSLR to the Celestron zoom eyepiece? It does not appear to be threaded at the top end.ROGER D : Hi Tom, Mine is about 3 years old. I assume they have not changed it. The rubber eyeguard can be removed. Underneath is a standard T-thread adapter. Hope this helps. RogerTHEODORE L : There is a rubber eyecup on the top end that pops off to reveal male threads underneath, 1.65" OD, about 32 threads per inch pitch.BRADLEY W : You don't mount a DSLR to the eyepiece. You mount it directly to the telescope in place of the eyepiece using an "adapter ring". To see the choices, go to Google and type the name of your scope and the name of your camera (for me, "celestron canon adapter ring"... yours may be different). You'll see the gizmos. The setup uses the scope, the ring and the camera without a lens. No eyepiece. Think of it this way... you don't use an eyepiece for your regular DSLR lenses, right? The scope is just another lens to your camera... the ring gives the scope the proper lens mounting for your camera. I hope that helps...JOHN M : To my knowledge you can't attach a DSLR direct to eyepiece. You nerd to use a 1.25" tube adapter and a camera make specific T adapter (both available via Adorama). Thru eyepiece photography is only possible with your camera mounted on a second tripod and a lot of luck with focus on the eyepiece image.LEE K : Not designed for astrophotography. It's an 'Eye'piece. With DSLR no eyepiece needed just adapter. Plenty of books on astrophotography with SLR or contact or local astronomy club.JOSEPH T : I don't think it's possible to connect a camera to the eyepiece.PERRY H : I have two of the Celestron 8-24mm zoom Eps. Both have the t-threads underneath the rubber eye cup. I just peel off the cup, and there they are!! So, those are male (or external t-threads). Whatcha need is a specific adapter for your camera's lens mount, which has female t-threads on the other side. Screw the zoom into those t-threads and the adapter onto where your lens would mount. The t-thread adapter provides a very solid coupling between the EP and your cam. HTH!DAN D : When you take off the rubber eyepiece, there are threads that are exposed. Although I do not know if you can connect a DSLR to them, since I have never used a DSLR with any eyepiece.

High marks from a backyard astronomer

This eyepiece is totally versatile and is a great buy for what it does. I am just getting into astronomy and I'm sure I could spend much more for a professional grade eyepiece, but this more than serves my purposes.

Great eyepiece at excellent price. Everyone should have one to get most out of your scope. Saves changing eyepieces to get closer views. Buy one before the price changes!

Zoom Eyepiece for telescope

Good eyepiece. It does the work of 2 separate eyepieces when doing an alignment with my telescope.

a very good eyepiece

I have only used this eyepiece once to view Mars and to tell the truth I was very surprised at how well it worked. I could all but get a full view of mars using my Celeron Nexstar 6 SL 1500mm scope had I added a 2 times barlow to my rig I could have filled my eyepiece with mars and not seen the planet as a whole.

Useful Tool for Planets, Birds or People

I actually bought this eyepiece for my wife to use on her small refractor. We've used it to look at the moon and Jupiter, some birds, and people hiking to the top of a mountain peak about five miles distant. We haven't had chance to use it at a really dark site for astronomy yet. The eyepiece functions well, has good eye relief, and appears to be well made. The eye lens is nice and big contributing to comfortable viewing. Zooming to different powers is a little tight, but that should improve with use. Now this is not a top of the line eyepiece (Zeiss, Kowa, Swarovski, Leica), but for the price it is very good value indeed. Recommended.

Very good eyepiece

Great to change the magnification and dial to the sharpest view. I didn't notice any difference when compared to the views of my regular eyepieces. Good for the moon, planets, double starts, Orion nebula. Worth having and eliminate the need to switch eyepieces.

It works

Generally good with my Nexstar 5SE. A bit difficult to find the best focus at 8mm, but this should be more a problem of atmospheric turbulence than the optics of the zoom lens. At 24mm down to 12mm it is crystal clear.

OK at best.

I dont suppose there is much room for complaints at this price range however I would have expected some type of "click stop" at some points through-out the zoom. Without this, any attemp to figure magnification would be a guess, at best. The veiw quality is acceptable but I will say that this Zoom piece will not be used as often as I had hoped. Not a bad product in its price range and bottom line is Yes I would probly recommend to any beginner with a modest scope and/or ep selection.

Not crazy about

Not crazy about this EP. Big advantage is being able to hook your DSLR to it directly. Sharpness just ok at 24mm but significantly deteriorates 15 to 8mm. There seems to be a 'hole' around 18mm where huge loss of light occurs. As usual, top quality at low price does not exist in optics. D.

Fun Eyepiece to have

No need for a bunch of high power eyepieces, specially when doing outreach where people asks -Can I see it bigger? Nice field of view and good quality, but keep in mind that because phisical light properties, only the center field of view has good focus on the lower mm setting and you loose sharpness. To avoid the outreach public to touch the focuser of my SCT, I use the zoom eyepiece as fine focuser for personal eye ajustment. But...All they want to see is: BIGGER!

a wider range with barlow :-) ?

It saves me from having to change eyepieces and loose my target. And it's just so easy to use
