I use this Canon 500 case to store and tow the 500mm lens. I like the top & side handles a lot it makes it easier to lift it's weight into my car. I am disappointed to find that the case is hollow I expected it to have a shock absorbing foam inside. My Lens in its case was in my Cars Trunk when I totaled my car @ 40 -45 miles per hour Front impact. The Case has a fist size puncture hole in it. I sent the lens in to be checked it cost over $380. I am looking for a better made case...If I have to buy the same Canon 500 Case I will drill holes and fill with that spray can expending foam myself.

I got my case with my new 300mm 2.8 L IS II. The case fairly cheap plastic that I would never put on the bottom of a pile of cases, nor trust in any significant drop. The inside is molded nicely. That is fine if you are only taking it out of your trunk, but I travel a lot. On the outside it says: "Lens Case 300B Canon," which to me is akin to: "steal me, I'm worth a lot of money." Also, this is a one lens case. When I travel, I do not just take the 300. For the price you can buy a Pelican 1510, which will fit in an overhead bin and will hold a lot more than just this lens (e.g. 70-200, TC's, 16-35, and a 50, a 1DX, etc). Also, the Pelican is much less obvious, is virtually indestructible, and you can put 2 combination locks on it (versus a cheap 1 key one built into the Canon case).
