The Canon 5D (and later, the 5D2) are the first really expensive cameras I've owned. My homeowner's policy covers photo equipment (when not being used professionally), but the thought that an accident can result in expensive damage is unnerving. Camera Armor probably won't protect against falls to a hard surface, but it should proof the camera against almost anything else, short of a dust storm or steady rain. I have two complaints. The Armor is a bit fiddly to put on. And it makes some of the controls harder to operate. These are trivial, when weighed against the protection provided. Camera Armor is cheap insurance and an absolute necessity. "Don't leave home without it!"

I use this armor to protect my 5DII when in my backpack during hiking. I found it protects my camera well. There is a bottom part that is removable allowing for the vertical grip to be attached. There is also a spacer included in the box that allows for the protective layer to be in place when a tripod is attached. Some of the buttons are not well protected and are uncovered, but this protects the camera as much as possible in my opinion.
