Shopper : The picture at  Adorama shows a twist release and the specs say quick release. Which one is it?PRICE S : The standard version that I received from Adorama was a twist release for arca mounting plates. That’s what you’ll get. Colorado Tripod Co. does offer a lever clamp version that I’d call quick release for additional cost. My 2 cents on this ball head: At this price point, I have never encountered a ball head anywhere near the quality. It is rock solid. I can put my sigma 150-600 on with camera and put it over my shoulder and hike off trail in rugged terrain and it doesn’t budge. I’ve also used it to hold a 12 ft rod with a focus target. I only needed a counter weight because the tripod would fall over without one. My only complaint: I had some initial questions for Colorado Tripod and customer service was slow to respond. All and all, I prefer this bullhead to more expensive ones I’ve used.GARY S : It’s a twist release that works a threaded mechanism to clamp down on the camera’s bottom plate.

Best ballhead for the cost

I don’t think you can beat this ball head at this price point. It is rock solid. I’ve clamped my Sigma 150-600 to it with camera, balanced the tripod over my shoulder and hiked rugged terrain and the ballhead never budged. When I get the camera in position and lick it down, it doesn’t move, even with heavy lenses. My only complaint is customer service wasn’t great about getting back with me. My questions were weird, so perhaps it delayed responses. I love this ballhead and it’s really light to have that much lock down power.

The 90-Degree Problem. Solved
For over 100 years, the drop window (the cutout area on the side of the ball head) has been fixed to a 90-degree drop.
