This works well when it's not fully extended, but at full height it's not very sturdy. The ball head can't really lock with my XTi and a 75-300mm fully extended. Despite the drawbacks, it is really small. About a foot long when collapsed, this is really convenient to carry. The leg sections lock with spring-loaded balls, much like an umbrella or easy-up. There are 7 of these weak points, so don't try to overload this - it will collapse on you. Coupled with an IS lens, this will work pretty well. Personally, I'd go with something else a bit more stable.
