I got this for a Christmas gift from my sweetheart. I assembled it to show myself and her how it was put together. Today I found a tripod for it and the first time I screwed it down to the tripod, the rivet-nut on the end pulled out. I spent over 40 years as an aircraft mechanic, so I know about proper torque and all that rot, so I didn't put it on too tight. Luckily, I had what I needed to fix it, or I would have been VERY upset, especially since I threw the box away.

I bought this three weeks ago on the recommendation of an acquaintance who uses his to catch brass from AR type rifles. However, I am shooting a 1911 .45 ACP and want to capture brass to reload. Because the 1911 doesn't kick the empty cases directly to the side like the AR does, I find that unless I put the brass trap at an angle over the gun, and hold the gun very close to the trap, the spent cases fly up and away often bouncing onto the bench or my body. Also, I have to stuff a towel or something in the bottom of the trap mouth to keep the ones that do go in from falling out. This also worked in a similar way when I tried it with my Glock 19. Do you have any ideas on how to fine-tune my setup so it will catch brass more reliably?

Probably works well with rifles on the bench, not the greatest for pistols. It's a bit too small for pistols. Quality is good. I would recommend it, just realize if you are using it for pistols, it is not going to catch all your brass.

Great for not having to chase my brass all over the place when shooting my semi-auto 9mm and 45 ACP

I haven?t used this one yet, but it?s a cool setup, a little tricky at first. I?m going to make a drop-down spring to slow brass down as it flies in, so they don?t bounce back out easily.

Like that it can be mounted on a tripod or sit on a bench or table.

Superbly engineered, light and easy to assemble. I have many Caldwell products. You wonder why there isn't anyone competing with them? That is why.

This is a good concept but lacks in practical use for a pistol. Depending on the pistol ejection trajectory the trap can miss a lot. First time use I used with a Ruger EC9 and it missed all of the brass ejected since they tend to go straight up. Second try was with a Kimber Pro Carry and it caught most of those as long as you are real close to the trap. Will continue to try to make this work but it all depends on pistol ejection trajectory.
