Questions & Answers

Shopper : Would the arm of the pod move so the camera is looking down? as if I need to take picture of documents?JOHN E : Yes, it can. There are 3 separate circular 'hinges' which allow the arm to move around the X and/or Y and/or Z axis. You can use one or two hinges to make the mounted camera look down onto a document.RUDOLPH A : not likely. arm folds under the base with plate turned fully down.feet no longer on your support. do not recommend this unit to anyoneLAMONT C : You can photograph documents if you hold the handle pod against a vertical surface and the swivel handle pod so its facing the floor you can then take your picture.MAURICE A : The answer is yes. Be aware the hardware securing the pivot points is fragile. Plastic beings of mine snapped off after a few uses.DOUGLAS C : The camera would point down if the feet were placed against a vertical surface or on an elevated horizontal surface. The arm can be rotated through 90 degrees by the hinge.MALCOLM W : NoELIZABETH S : Yes, the camera attaches to the handle and it can rotate.RICHARD C : yes it can be used to photo things such as flat sheets of documents may need to put some weight on base depending on weight of camera .CHUNG N : Yes. You will need to hold the bottom to keep the camera from tipping over.
STEVEN M : would this work by using it on a 70-200 f2.8 if you attached it to the tripod mount on the lens ?LASH L : Not sure, Steven. I think it would be a lot of weight. I haven't tried it on anything that heavy.LARRY H : sorry can't give you answer,,.I don't have a lens that bigRUDOLPH A : not likely. item is very lightweight. canon 7d with tamron 24-135mm lens tends to fall over forwards. i bought it for a trip to china. did not take it . maybe suitable for a smaller point and shoot. but don't expect robust construction. if you would send address, i will give to you. i do not expect to use itJOHN T : It would attach I'm sure, but it is rather lightweight for a telephoto application without any other form of support.DENISE C : I have not tried this. DeniseGustavo G : Didn't try that way, but I don't think so. This is for small cameras. That lens is so big and heavy for this.JERRY M : No way! It would only work for a small point and shoot (sorry).MICHAEL G : It does not support the weight of a D700 very well at all. I doubt it will handle the big lens any better even if mounted on the lens foot. I was not favorably impressed with the lack of rigidity and as a result have not used it after the first couple of unsatisfactory attempts.RICHARD C : the shutter button on the newer cameras seem to require more pressure to operate thus camera movement is a concern i like the old cable release system when using long lens.JOHN S : I HAVE ONLY USED THIS WITH MY COMPACT CANON DIGITAL. I DOUBT THAT IT WOULD SUPPORT A DSLR WITH THAT SIZE LENSMALCOLM W : It will attach, however the weight may be a negative factor...MAURICE A : No. Compact lightweight camera only. Collapsed eiyh Nikon F5. Ok with Nikon P7700
Shopper : Aug I: I have a Canon 5DMkII. Would this be sturdy enough to hold that camera with the 100MM Macro? With one of the larger zooms? It's a great idea but I'm concerned it wouldn't work well for heavier cameras. Thanks.LASH L : I do not think it would be at its best with a heavy camera/lens combination. I do think it works well with smaller cameras, which are normally too small for me to hold securely. This gives me more to hold.KARL B : I have used my HandlePod with good results on a Sony HX5V and Sony NEX-5n. I don't think I would try it with an SLR.HARRY J : I was told by a Adorama representative that it would not be wise to use a heavy lens/camera with the HandlePod. I returned the item.MICHAEL H : I have the Canon EOS 30D and the HandlePod is a quality product that is sturdy enough w/ my 28-135 Canon lens. However, when using it in obtuse angles I occassionally have to do an extra thightening. If I didn't have a disabling arthritis, it probably wouldn't be an issue!RICHARD C : yes it is darn sturdy but with the long lens you will need to try several positions to get the best balance.RON B : You are wise to ask this question. I have a Nikon D700 with several longer lens and it doesn't come close to supporting that much weight. It's a great idea and I would immediately buy a heavier version of the same design. I think this would work well with point and shoot cameras or DSLR cameras with plastic bodies.JOHN S : I've only used this with my Canon SX30 IS, and it works well for that. I would not recommend using it for a larger camera with larger lenses.MALCOLM W : I use it with a Pentax Optio W90 on my boat to make self photo of fish I catch...a very light weight camera.....MICHAEL G : I bought this item with great hopes for it. It really will not hold a DSLR with any kind of lens and remain horizontal. Even with my kit lens on a D7000 the arm starts to droop. It's a good idea, poorly executed. Perhaps useful for Point and Shoots but IMO not for DSLRs of any size.JEFF G : No way this can hold the 5D let alone with the 100mm. Use the Gorilla Pod. That is what I use for my 7D w/24-105L. I use this for my GoPro.DOUGLAS C : I have a Pentax K-5 with an 18-250mm lens and have no problems with that combination. It easily fits into my camera bag and is a convenient alternative to a tripod when I want to travel light.LARRY H : I like this very much, but I doubt very much if it would support a very large zoomJERRY M : Sorry, I have one and I would not use it with a DSLR. I wish they would have come out with a metal model.DAVID S : No, this would be suitable for a larger DSLR. It's fairly light and mostly plastic. OK for small camcorders (which is why I bought it) and point-and-shooters. Hope that helps.

Light duty

Would work OK on a DX camera, but I have a heavy D810 with a tele lens. Would not trust it to support the weight.

Bad design

I have had the HandlePod less than 2 hours and I broke one of the plastic knobs used to make adjustments. Very bad design. I was trying to tighten one of the knobs so that the arm would stay in my desired position. I broke the plastic knob so now I cannot make any adjustments and the arm is still too loose to mount the camera and have it stay in place.

Bad design

I have had the HandlePod less than 2 hours and I broke it. Very bad design. I broke one of the plastic knobs used to tighten one of the arms. Now I cannot make any more adjustments. The arm is stil too loose to mount a camera and have it stable. Too bad. I was looking forward to using this product. It seemed like a good idea for a product, but the design is bad. And now it is useless.

Nice idea, cheap junky implementation

First of all, I am basing my comments using a DSLR..IMO it is far too flimsy to hold the weight safely. It is a nice idea, just a cheap implementation. If you have a small camera, like my Leica DLUX 4, ok, it is fine for that little camera. Frankly I would buy one if they made it able to hold the weight of a DSLR reliably.
