This was my first Dennon purchase and even though it was a refurbished product i had no reservations coming from the manufacturer. This was a big upgrade from my 15 year old Sony receiver. I loved my Sony receiver, but this Dennon receiver is great! It has plenty of power for each speaker. I connected 2 Subs and it has great bass. Dennon being known a little higher quality in music is one of the reasons i went with them over Onykyo. The wi-fi connection is wonderful as streaming wi-fi from Spotify this way has better quality than Bluetooth. It has plenty of HDMI'S so it's future ready. Setup was easy. I didn't need 7.2 so that is why i went with this model. If you are looking for great sound and useful features I recommend this model. It does have a phono connection as well so if you will be connecting a record player you don't need a pre-amp.

I already own 2 other receivers by Denon (710,920), but this one is no slouch. So far it is meeting all of my expectations.

Well I love the unit. It is easy to setup and operate. Tuning in the audio with my Klipsch speakers was great. I would rate it high but I am going to hold my breath for right now. After 20 days of owning it, the unit has started shutting off randomly. The support call was a challenge dealing with a Tier 1 person who had a list of troubleshooting tips that would embarrass a 12 year old. Evidently my only option is repair. Other than not having the unit for xx amount of time we shall see how their system works..

I'm no audiophile, I just like good listening...I decided to replace my 1713 receiver which still works great though lacks bluetooth. So, I decide to purchase the s650h new from Denon before Thanksgiving 2021 for a discount from $399 to $339. Upon delivery, I notice Denon discounts this unit to $319 so I contact customer service and they reimbursed the difference no problems, A++.Denon...Replacing the 1713 to s650h was very easy. My set up includes a Sharp LC70 3d tv, Denon dbt1713ud, PS4, KEF T 201 series 5.1 and new to the setup is an Amazon fire cube 2. Set up was easy, the most difficult part was disconnecting the unmarked wires and cables from the 1713 and marking and reconnecting to the s650h. Running audyssey test found issues with 2 speakers wires crossed audyssey did not pick up in my original test run on the 1713 receiver. Speaker wires are mono color fyi. Anyway, the s650h has paired well with the tv arc input to receiver earc input. The fire cube 2 can control the avr and verizon fios cable box with voice commands. So far extremely happy to use the bluetooth connection with iphone/itunes and overall, still learning about the avr...just wish a hard copy manual came with the unit instead of the intenet/pdf download.

The receiver is a significant upgrade in sound and convenience over my older Harman Kardon. Though refurbished, you would never know it. I am quite satisfied with the purchase and the price.

Very easy speaker setup using Audessey. I have some acoustic challenges and the automatic process worked very well. Other setup steps were just as easy. Video from my source devices through the receiver look great, no added noise or other artifacts. Full video resolution. Sound is great, but I'm not stressing the audio much with a 3-channel sound bar. One aspect stands out: the roll-off of bass frequencies from the sound bar to the subwoofer is perfect. Overall very pleased with the unit especially for the price.

I bought the receiver to connect bluetooth headphones, and found lots more useful features in addition. Per-speaker equalization! Audio synchronization to correct the time delay with bluetooth. All in all a great receiver at a great price.

I bought this receiver as a reasonably priced 4K upgrade to an old Denon receiver (which was still working flawlessly after many years). This new receiver worked perfectly out of the box. The on-screen setup couldn't have made it any easier. 4K passthrough looks great. Sound is crisp and clear on headphones. Highly recommend!

For a long time I've been a sound bar guy, but I decided to upgrade and purchace my first receiver, and I can honestly say that I have no regrets. It seems to be strong enough to handle a 5.3 setup without skipping a beat. Granted I'm still learning about configurations and sound specific sound placements, but the 650 is doing a great job keeping up!

Documentation was surprisingly minimal and when the setup assistant wouldn't display on the TV, it was no help at all. I eventually got it to launch through the menu, but it took a lot of trial and error. One it did come up, the auto calibrate feature failed on two speakers and non of the troubleshooting procedured helped with that either. I finally gave up on the calibration and used it as is. The sound seems fine, but I have no idea whether it is optimized for my listenting area. I guess all I can say is it sounds better than the old Sony receiver it replaced.

I am reluctant to give my comments as they are primarily negative. I am a 77 year old engineer-trained techie that has dabbled in high end sound gear since 1966. And I have to say this machine is about as far from "plug and play" as anything device I have ever purchased. I have had it for about 10 days max and I haven't scratched the surface of what it is supposed to do. I have worked out some of the controls but I'm still waiting get decent sound from this receiver. First of all I apparently don't have a TV that has the latest HDMI technology need to use the setup steps via the TV monitor. Trying access control it (especially tone controls) from the receiver itself was futile. Finally, after days of reading I managed to configure the Denon app and the Heos app so I am now somewhat able to configure some tone controls and the tuner. But it took me almost a day to configure the amp and home network to do this. There is only one or two paragraphs at the back of the manual that aided me to do this. And philosophy of having separate tone settings for each input is awkward and unnecessary. Oh for the days of tone control and balance knobs! Due to limited HDMI tech I tried to use optical connections from TV to the amp. It doesn't work, at least for streaming inputs like Firestick. I have to use analog phono cables to hear streaming TV audio output. And it ends up coming out the cab/sat input. Only the antenna TV sound is heard from via "TV Audio" input button. I still can't connect to my subwoofer via subwoofer cable. It just won't work. I am forced to run the subwoofer via the front speaker outputs. I would rather not wire the speakers that way. Which leads me to believe that the subwoofer outputs won't work because it can't "when the whatchamacallit is enabled." This device has a bunch of features that apparently don't function if "this or that is enabled!" Like the so-called equalizer for instance. Controlling the device from an app is a nice idea (and it is the only way I can "control" the settings") but the basic architecture of the controls is just wrong. It is arcane. It needs to be simplified. Especially the setup mechanism. It just didn't function. It possibly may work better if I had a more up to date TV with more HDMI input and outputs but that can wait. All I want now is just to get some decent sound out of the amplifier. After another week of fumbling around I shall try to get some tech help from you folks but for right now, I'm overwhelmed.

I purchased a refurbished AVR-S650H-R directly from Denon. The problem is, after you have it on a few hours it will drop the AUDIO sound for a few seconds and then it's fine. Then 30 minutes later it does it again... Pay the EXTRA $70, this is crap.

I have higher End Denon receivers and wanted something for the garage for a small 5.1 set up in there. Sound quality is superb and meets all the requirements I needed (HEOS WiFi and Bluetooth. Great receiver for the price pint.

This Denon was a big improvement over our 30 year old Onkyo. The automated EQ/delay setup is terrific, and 100 watts per channel is more than we will ever need. My only complaint is that the control app for iPad is remarkably weak. Does not transfer lists from network radio or media server to the iPad, only visible on an attached monitor.

Replacing an older Sony, first time Denon purchase. Sound is very balanced and crystal clear. Hearing things I had not heard before in some very familiar music. Never had wireless or internet options in a receiver, that is so cool! My only surprise was that I need to crank it up to 60-70% volume for normal use, so it is not very powerful or loud if that is what you want. It?s a great fit for me and I got a great deal direct from Denon! Dig it.
