Excellent upgrade

Been thinking about buying one of these for a few months now.  Grabbed one this week for £329 to replace my 5.1 Yamaha Receiver.  Glad I did. Excellent Sound Quality and the set-up microphone is easy to use and set-up sound specific to your room/environment.  I have mine paired with Tannoy Eclipse 3 floor-standers as front L & R speakers, Tannoy sub and smaller surround speakers.  I have the ATMOS set up with ear level surround speakers, over height speakers but, I believe you can set it up with heigh speakers too (but by sacrificing the wide surrounds on this receiver).  

I have an LG 4K TV and run a Panasonic UHD 4K Blu-ray and Apple TV 4K through the amp.  The picture quality is excellent.   Wiring is easy because of the ARC standard - just high quality HDMI cables connect everything to the amp and sound is sent that way.

The wireless was easy to set-up from iOS and once that was set-up the App just worked with no additional set-up.

Great for the money.  If you want something more complex, you need to spend more but for a mid-level set-up this amp is excellent and is definitely an upgrade from my older Yamaha.

Excellent Cost to Quality

I really hate this AV Receiver. First of all DSP modes are bad, really bad, Video game mode is the worst, it puts all sounds from surround speakers to front. Why? Its terrible.

This is mine 8 av receiver, and first being Denon, after 2 weeks I still cant adjust my subwoofer or lfe level to sound right. It either lacks in Stereo or is tol much in 7.1. Dynamic EQ is a joke, everything sounds muffled and heavy. HDMI CEC works when it wants to. No DSPs for Atmos or DTSX. 

System menu is very slow and unresponsive, any adjustments feel like a chore. Remote is too big and clunky.

App. My god, the app. This is the first time my smartphone froze, because if this app. It opens uo 50% of the time and it takes around 15s on S7 to open up, and sti is laggy and so slow. You cant even adjust speaker levels inside the app. Menus are overbearing.

At this price Denon is not delivering at all. Sound quality is give or take the same as other Av receivers in the price category, but usability is terrible. And I am starting to hate subwoofer which I've loved so lomg, because if this receiver

Denon never again

My recieved stopped working when I updated it. Then when trying to get it fixed denon required me to have my original purchase receipt when trying to get it fixed. If you have a product under warranty then keep the product number and honor your warranty based on the product number, not requiring me to have the original receipt!

Trashy product from a

This is an initial review and my first impressions.  I set up my new receiver yesterday.  I do not like the following:  1) NO switched A/C plug on the receiver.  I run my receiver in an enclosed cabinet into which I have forced airflow cooling installed which would have powered on automatically for me with a switched outlet in the receiver.  2) I hate that the headphone jack kills speaker sound when headphones are plugged in which can not apparently be disabled in setup.  My wife has some trouble hearing dialog and I had planned on using bluetooth headphones with the transmitter fed from the headphone jack while I get full sound from the speakers.  I will be playing instead with center channel output to help her hear. 

I really like that the receiver has  a built-in TV/Sound mode on the remote.  I have a smart TV and I do not want to use ARC.  This setting easily enables feeding sound from the TV (for its various built in apps such as Netflix, Pandora, etc) to the receiver via optical cable when a cable box is not the source but the TV is the source and the only thing fed to the receiver is the audio sourced from the TV.

I am still discovering how I will use this receiver for music content from the internet.  Nothing on radio appeals to me and I look forward to discovering how to take advantage of this internet enabled receiver.  I am hardwired to the internet for connectivity so I can not comment on wireless connectivity.  I do have a smart TV but I hope to find advantages with this interface.

The bluetooth connectivity from my iphone worked flawlessly.  I have not played with the app for the iphone....it was not rated very well I noted when I downloaded it to my phone.

One reason I bought this receiver over cheaper versions is the generous number of HDMI inputs....so many only have four.  One of the HDMI inputs is on the front panel as well as a USB port.

This receiver does not have a phono input.

I have not used any wireless speakers and unlikely that I ever will.

Ace movie machine

My fourth Denon AVR and a big step backward with no web management.  Not everyone uses iOS or Android devices, and even those apps have missing settings.  The AVR responds with an access denied error so web management is cleary present but hidden.  Come in Denon, open it up.

Missing Web Management

Grabbed one of these a couple of weeks ago for £350 and the amount of tech I got for my money is astonishing. 
Amazing sound, a lot of connectivity, DTS:X and Atmos at this pricepoint? Awesome.

Great Fucture's

I bought this as an upgrade from a sound bar and boy does it sound good. I have the av hooked up to the Denon sys 2020 surround sound speakers, together they sound great.

Beyond expectations

Bought it for a company wide training and conference room.
It is so great that my colleagues are asking how many thousands we invested in the sound system.

Great AV Receiver

You can only adjust the sound through the app. Should be available with the remote as well. Cant find any directions online or in the box that says it does. Going between Dolby, Movie, Arena, etc. It gives you no time to switch between them, listen to them, and scroll through without the menu disappearing before you try the next. You have to start over every time. Very surprising and lame....
