We bought this receiver 4yrs ago for $850. It was on sale for a promotion in-store. It worked for about 8 months and started doing weird things. The audio would stop and just make a high pitched sound and then completely stopped working. We called about warranty repair/diagnostic and were told that it was a third party that provided repairs, so we called them. They were completely booked and told us we needed to send it in, and wait for 6months, yes that’s right, 6months before they could even do diagnostics. So we waited A couple months and tried to decide what to do. well then my husband got deployed for 9months, the receiver sat in its original box in the office and I forgot about it. He gets home, we move, we know it’s out of warranty but decide to pay anyway.... it is after all a nearly $1k receiver... so... we try to get it repaired again, pay our shipping fees and $100 diagnostics only to be told that Dennon no longer manufactures the part we need to fix it. Seriously? It’s not even been 4years and you don’t make it? and it will cost another $50 to ship It back to us. $50 to ship (basically a $950 paperweight... We can’t even believe the lack of propriety in this company... it’s disgraceful...

I purchased the AVR-X4100W less than 5 years ago and that's how long it lasted. The part needed to fix it, one of the circuit boards is not made anymore! So I am stuck with a useless $1,500 receiver that didn't last 5 years. To top all off, I have sent Denon two messages thru their website, and have received no reply from them. Very poor customer service. No buying a Denon product anymore1

I'm a little obsessed with receivers...I started with a Yamaha then upgraded to a Pioneer VSX with more features. After the Pioneer burnt out I purchased an Onkyo TX-NR747. I never once for some reason was satisfied with the sound of my music nor really impressed with anything about the sound. For as long as I owned the Onkyo, it never sounded right. Even after multiple MCAA setup attempts, playing PURE mode, trying different audio sources, graphic equalizers, different speaker setup, it was always just not great for some reason. Finally after owning a receiver from most of the other manufacturers and always wanting more DENON created a unit that sounds amazing no matter what. My music feels alive even when I was between speakers (and houses!) and only had a mismatched 3.1 speaker set-up it sounds great all the time. If you are making modifications to your theater / studio set-up, equipment, or always trying new sound modes hoping for a better listening experience like I was, maybe this receiver will be the answer. I only modify sound settings and play with different listening modes to enjoy my music even more. Never have I once needed to make an adjustment to make the sound "Good" or be able to hear every word spoken by characters on screen. This receiver is everything you could want in a piece of audio equipment. The solid all-metal chassis really looks great in comparison to the plastic lower-end models and feels like the entire unit is an armored tank instead of a sensitive piece of fragile equipment. The front knobs are all metal as well and have the perfect amount of resistance and strength allowing you to carefully dial the exact volume or input you select. The rear panel tells you everything you want to know about any receiver and the complete set of pre-outs for every channel allows you to easily bring in external amplifires to drastically boost the power output of your system as well as choose between dozens of different dolby speaker configurations and you could really go nuts with a crazy Atmos configuration. Also I know HDMI inputs are often glitchy on almost all receivers especially when switching inputs (no sound or coming from the input and you have to either re-select the input or reboot the receiver: ANNOYING and its been going on since I was 14 and had a home theater in a box in 2004). My experience with the X4100W, however, has been near perfect! I never have drop outs when switching inputs, and I switch inputs from Xbox to PC to FiOS very often. During the years I have owned this amp I think only once or twice it missed an HDMI trigger, but this was just after a power outage so it may have been another device in the setup. FYI the unit gets a bit hot at the back left of its chassis which is a part of normal operation but I suggest if you are putting it in an enclosed cabinet test the unit in that location running full power to ensure it will not be in danger of a hardware malfunction due to overheating. If there is any question about the smooth safe operation of the receiver, just spend $20-40 on an AC Infinity auxiliary fan. They are designed for home theater equipment, are powered by a USB port, and run quiet enough so that you should never notice them. This may be unneccessary or overly cautious but I think its worth it for me. Enjoy this absolute beast of an amp.

New Tablet Apps
In addition to the available smart device apps, they have created a new Denon Remote app specifically for tablet devices and it's available for iPads, Android tablets as well as the Kindle Fire.
4K Ultra HD 60 Hz Pass-through; 4:4:4 Pure Color Sub-sampling Pass-through
For the clearest video images, the AVR-x4100W features an advanced video section with 8 HDMI inputs including 1 conveniently located on the front panel and all rear HDMI inputs are equipped with Ultra HD 4K full 60 Hz frame-rate pass-through and 4K Ultra HD 60 Hz frame-rate upscaling along with analog-to-digital video conversion. The AVR-x4100W also features Pure Color 4:4:4 color sub-sampling pass-through, another feature of the latest HDMI specification. There are 3 HDMI outputs (2 for the main room and1 for the second zone) so you can send different content to 2 different rooms.
Dolby Atmos Surround Decoding
Introduced in movie theaters in 2012, Dolby Atmos has quickly become the gold standard in motion picture surround sound. Dolby Atmos theaters are equipped with banks of surround speakers along the side and back walls and additional banks of speakers overhead. Dolby Atmos is an object-based scalable system, so no matter the loudspeaker configuration, the decoder scales and routes content to the various speakers for the ultimate movie surround sound experience. You can enjoy Dolby Atmos in your home theater, thanks to the AVR-x4100W's Dolby Atmos sthe main front speakers and surround sound speakers. Or, you can choose to go with Dolby Atmos compatible speakers, which feature additional upward firing drivers that use the room's ceiling reflectivity to provide overhead sound imaging.
11 Color Coded - 4-Way Speaker Terminals
The high quality speaker terminals feature multi-way connectors to handle various types of cable terminations and they're all color coded for correct hookup the very first time. Color coded speaker labels are also included to ensure quick and correct hookup with no hassle.
Powerful 7 Channel Discrete Amplifier with Eco Mode
For optimum sound quality across all channels, the AVR-x4100W features a sophisticated power amplifier section with all 7 channels configured identically employing discrete high current capable power output devices. Each channel is rated at 125 watts (8 ohms, 20Hz-20kHz, .05%THD) and all channels are able to safely drive lower impedance speakers (down to 4 ohms). Their new advanced Eco amplifier mode adjusts power consumption according to signal level and there's an on-screen Eco Mode display that lets you see the power consumption reduction in real time.
Dual Subwoofer Outputs
With a single subwoofer setup, room acoustics and the subwoofer's location may not deliver optimum deep bass response. Instead, because of room resonances, deep bass quality may be uneven due to room interaction. With the AVR-x4100W's dual subwoofer outputs, you can connect two subwoofers and place them in different parts of the room and enjoy smoother and more accurate deep bass response.
Easy To Setup, Easy To Use
The AVR-x4100W comes with a Quick Setup guide and has an intuitive on-screen Setup Assistant that will have your system fully configured with a minimum of fuss and bother. You can even control the setup via your PC's web browser or use their available iOS and Android Denon Remote apps with your favorite smart devices.
