We've been using a CLR2500 for the last number of years as our home theater center channel. 

After seeing a series of positive reviews about this center, and the sales around black friday, we decided to order one and give it a shot.

We are still inside the break in period for this speaker, but to date, we are quite pleased with the update. The DM30 is noticeably richer and clearer than the CLR2500 was. Dialogue is easier to hear, sound effects have more detail, and in general everything just sounds better. I did some A/B comparisons for the wife and the kids and their opinions echo'd my own, everyone prefers the newer center.

Just be sure you have sufficient space for this thing because it is big, and it is heavy. 

The speaker itself seems well built, and the gain control knob has a nice feel to it. It has no trouble getting loud, I had to reduce the gain in my AVR config to get the SPL level on this speaker even to where the CLR2500 was.

Impressed

Finally, a center channel speaker that will not leave you wanting more and best of all you can turn off the closed captions! The DM30 is an amazing speaker, build quality is second to none, and the sound this speaker produces is the standard all center channel speakers should strive to achieve. My wife has described the vocals produced as being so lifelike that you would think the actors are in the room with you. This speaker actually outperforms most front channel speakers as you can see from my MultEQ-X measurements. You may think you really do not "need" a center channel speaker that can play down to 30Hz but once you experience it you will never go back. The range is needed to ensure whatever you throw at this work horse is handled with ease. Hearing deep voices in movies such as Venom, Bane, and Emperor Palpatine are life changing with this speaker. Everything comes to life! Definitely run a test with the Greatest Showman, the scene in the Opera Hall will take you and your viewers breath away once your system is configured correctly. The speaker is a bit larger than other center channels, but the size is worth what the speaker achieves. How many center channels have 3 8" subs built in? These subs will not replace your independent sub, but it adds body to vocals. When watching content, the speakers fade to the background due to black enclosure. This speaker was purchased to replace the CS9040. I can tell you with full confidence that even if you own the flagship center for the CS line and/or any other brand center channel, the DM30 will eat them for lunch and be ready for a snack in minutes any day of the week. If you can make it work do not think twice, just buy it, you will be happy.

The Center to Rule them All

I have this center channel speaker between a pair of DM60's (See review on the DM60 page.) The spoiler alert here, as the title suggests-this center channel is incredible. Vocal clarity and intelligibility are second to none. Voices come across very naturally, and with a lifelike realism that really has to be heard to be understood. If you're looking at the DM60/70/80's, if you have the space, this is the center you need to get-that simple. Also, I have the Demand D17's in a second room, and while the demand D5C is an excellent center,  this center goes perfectly in that set up as well. You will be the envy of your friends.

Incredible reference Center Channel

Believe it or not, a full home theater system, comprised of the best that Def-Tech have available at that time, have been something I've wanted for more than TWENTY YEARS!!
I now have the best front towers, center channel and rear surrounds that is currently offered by Definitive Technology, along with a kick butt receiver and an 85 inch 4K TV and I must say........it has been worth the wait!!!!   I am IN HEAVEN every night that I fire this system up to either watch a movie or to enjoy my favorite music!!

Well worth the 20+ year wait!!

If you were to replace a single speaker in your current speaker set, I would start with this center channel first.  Amazing difference.  Paired with BP-9080x, it's even better.  Just some notes, too heavy to put on a shelf and chance it falling on something or someone.  Make sure you either have TV mounted at least 7" above the resting surface for the center channel speaker.  I didn't want to mount my TV so I elevated it; wound up liking the new height of the TV.

Must have Center channel

Recently updated my Home Theater system with this CS9080.  I upgraded to the CS9080 from a ProCenter 2000.  Huge increase in clarity and fullness of sound from the Center Channel.  The added benefit of a powered 8" subwoofer in this center speaker truly balances out the bass across the entire soundstage, versus only emanating bass from my two DefTech BiPolar towers in the left and right corners, 14 feet apart. This fills the bass void in the middle so elegantly and subtly. With this center subwoofer design, you hear the full range of deeper voices (such as Darth Vader's) and special effects that used to sound "tinny" when using a lesser Center Channel than the CS9080.  Well done Def Tech!

The Center Channel GOAT

I am running the CS-9080 as part of my 9.1 Dolby Atmos home theater system coupled in the front sound stage with a pair of D15s as my L/R.  If there's a better sounding and performing center channel speaker out there, I'd love to know what it is.  This has the power and finesse to delivery the most realistic audio from any content, particularly punchy, detailed, precision mastered movie audio.  You will be blown away if you try one out.  I am of mind to watch every movie I have every enjoyed again to relive it in this audio perfection.

I bought D11, CS9080 & SR9080, these are an outstanding speakers. The product clearly lives up to Definitive Technology's well deserved reputation. 
It does its job very well!
