The drum is a weak point. I have only run 12,000 copies through the printer and it is call for a drum kit. The drum kit spec says it should last up to 48,000 impressions. At the cost of the drum kit I can buy a better colour laser printer.

The Dell 3100cn is a workhorse, and one that's lasted over 7 years at this office. I can print out hundreds of nearly-perfect color copies, relatively fast. My only complaint is that the drum doesn't last as long as advertised (42k copies, who gets that?!). We get about 6k copies out of it, with medium toner coverage (~10% on average). But the printer, love it, love it, love it, so I'm willing to suffer the twice-yearly cough-up for drums.

once I figure out what Printer to buy from ANOTHER COMPANY, I will purchase another color laser printer. My Dell 3100CN, I really, really love. However this drum I ordered today for $200.00 will be the 3rd drum that gets replaced in this printer. In 5 years we have printed a TOTAL of 4,381 pages, period. Ridiculous, what happened to QUALITY products Dell?

All of the Dell products I have have been very dependable with long life and easy to swap. No problems!

We are on our third imaging drum kit. The first one failed at 11,892 pages. The rubber belt kept on slipping and walking to the right. The second one worn out a 20,472 pages. This is nowhere near the stated life of 42,000 pages.

As usual, we can depend on our Dell 3100cn printer to work like a charm - esp. when Dell always has our toner and our drum in stock.

I judge electronic machines by reliability, ease of use, low maintenance cost, and performance. As an IT professional I have used almost the entire gamat of printer brands and models. I am happy to say that I chose very well when I bought my Dell Laser Printer Model 3000cn 4 years ago. We have a household of six and our printer has been 100% reliable. From day one it has been very user friendly. Basically it has been the definition of plug and play. The maintenance involved in it has just been changing the toner cartridges when the printer emails me that they are low or depleted and just this month changing the Drum Cartridge. So it has extremely low maintenance. Finally for the amount of printing that my family use. It has outperformed all other printers in the same price range and capacity.

We have used our Dell printer in our school for years. The items necessary to keep it up and running, from this drum to the printer cartridges, last for quite a good while allowing us to get more prints than our other printers in the school!

Easy to install. The printer recognizes the new part and starts printing again.

The product is very good, but contacting tech support leaves a lot to be desired. Most of the people reached are either in India or the Philippines and won't transfer calls to a representative in the USA that understands English.

I replaced the drum cartridge for my Dell 3100cn printer following the advice of the printer screen message "Replace Drum Cartridge Soon", and after suffering with streaky, smudged copies for a year or so. (The printer is at least two years old. Now color prints are flawless. The old drum cartridge had 13690 pages on it, of which 5018 were color. So actual drum life was considerably less than advertised. The printer is past guarantee, so I paid $29.00 and had Dell Techies run me through the diagnostics to confirm that I needed a new drum cartridge. The first Tech advised that the drum cartridge was fine, but instead I needed a new MCU. Not convinced that a defective MCU could caused blurred streaks and smudges, I called again for a second opinion. The second Tech confirmed my suspicion and advised a new drum cartridge. So I conclude that Dell phone diagnostics are not fool proof.

I just bought a drum reset chip for less than $20 from a merchant on Amazon.com. Laser Tek Services sent the part quickly and I was up and printing again after cleaning out the drum kit. I've had the Dell 3100cn for about 4 years and it has been an excellent printer. This is the first time I've had to touch the imaging drum. Hopefully this easy fix lets me run for another 4 years. I'll clean out the drum now as standard yearly maintenance and see how long it lasts.

Good print Quality. The amount of pages printed is every poor. I am only receiving about 75% useage. The same with the black toners for this printer.

The straight paper path of the 3110, 3115 models seems to be much more reliable than the rotating carriage design of the 3000-3100 printers.

After the drum "expired" the first time I purchased a small $10 chip on a popular auction site and that brought it back to life. It then "filled up" after several more months. What is that? Well, if you occasionally would empty the excess toner that it picks up off the paper as it flows through the printer you can catch the drum before it "POPs" a small pressure sensor that would immediately stop the printing and say it is "FULL". There are two screws - one on each end of the "nose" of the drum. You will be shocked to see all that comes out.

Would not recommend this printer to a colleague or friend. I believe the drum could be used for a longer time, but the printer will not allow it. I would rather determine when the drum is bad instead of letting the printer tell me. This specific model printer is the only Dell product that I would not recommend.

We got to close to 17K before the Drum message came up, so I guess we did ok. Will research the replacement MUCH better in the future...

If you are concerned about the price of the drum and having to replace it about once a year, look for a printer elsewhere. Otherwise, it is a good printer

Would highly recommend the duplexer if doing a lot of printing in draft mode - saves you a lot on paper costs.

Thanks for the ease of installment as well as its longevity. I'm constantly having to 'hold faculty members' hands' in order to show them how to work office equipment. This makes getting the job done much easier.

I have used the Dell 3100cn printer for over a year and have had to change the toners - each color - twice and the drum cartridge (which I was totally in shock of having to replace) once, so far. The overall cost of this printer is much more than my Epson CX5200 Inkjet printer and the Dell does not print any better. I do a lot of printing in a "volunteer organization" capacity (at my expense) and thought getting a Laser printer would be less expensive --- it wasn't. It was faster, but not any better. I will consider another Laser printer in the future, maybe a Dell, but will be more mindful of the cost of toner cartridges and any other untold replacement parts before I purchase.

When the drum stopped the printer I went on-line and ordered a new drum and a set of new toner cartridges immediately and received them the next day (of course I paid for overnight shipping). The efficiency of the Dell shipping team is incredible since I ordered the drum at 9-10 PM and received the items by noon the next day. I then contacted Dell to complain about the short life on the drum and they bent over backwards to address the problem. I received a free replacement of the defective drum even though the printer was no longer under warranty. But then to measure up to the rated life of the drum I would need to be able to get two more replacements to reach 40,000 pages on the cost of one drum.

I would not purchase another Dell printer. The paper feeds in slightly skewed and I have three different Dell printers and it's the exact same paper feed problem throughout. Also they all do an especially lousy job feeding envelopes and print quality is bad (double imaging). I had to jump through hoops to redesign a template in Publisher so I could get an envelope to feed through properly. (I have settled on using my trusty old Epson printer to do this or just hand-writing it!) Figure out your needs, read the on-line boards about this product and make your own informed decision. Happy printing!!

The Dell P4866 Imaging Drum Kit is specifically designed for use with Color Laser Printer 3000cn/3010cn/3100cn. It applies toner to the page and offers a usable life of approximately 42000 pages when printing 100% mono pages decreasing to 10500 pages when printing 100% color pages.
