Great arm with w limited height (read the spec)

Quality of the arm is great! I removed one star because the max hight is slightly below the perfect hight for someone tall (6.3' feet). I had to compensate for that by inserting a block under the mount.

Excellent Product!

I am glad I have this product because it was sturdy and easy assemble to put together. I am very happy with this product. I planning on getting another set of it for the second monitor. I am not sure if I am going to get dual arm monitor to replace my new current one.

Great height adjustment, but build quality is lacking

This arm is easy to install, slightly less easy to guide the cables through, and would be a perfect one if not for the build quality. The shaft of the upper joint has a smaller diameter than the hole, which prevents the top half from being level. The picture shows the joint issue, and it cannot be fixed by tightening any screws.

Question - Height Adjustment

Looking to see how high above the desk service this will go? The Dell Dual Monitor base only allows for 6 inches from desk to bottom of my 24 inch monitor. Terrible for ergonomics. Forces you to look at a slightly downward angle constantly.

Great.

I have a relatively heavy 27" monitor (almost 16 lbs.) but this arm handles it just fine right out of the box. No adjustments needed, and the build is excellent.

poor quality control

The product I received did not work. You could adjust the monitor tilt, swivel it on its axis, but the two major joints that adjusted the height were immobile. With regards to the weight adjustment screw, I could not find it anywhere. To find it, I assume you have to move arms on the joints, but they were moveable, even with the monitor installed. I would have broken my desk before it would move. If I was doing something wrong on a good product, fine, but there is nothing in the documentation that would have shown me the correct way.

Short-term Pains, Long-time Gains.

Most reviews of the Dell MSA14 Single Arm Monitor Stand criticize the setup and fail to categorize the end result. It provides very good function and you'll soon forget if there are some pains in setup while you enjoy the function for a long, long time. Very good function: The arm of the stand swings freely and widely from side to side. The monitor you attach pivots nicely from left to right with excellent range. These are the functions that matter most. Cables to the monitor stay hidden and don't restrict movement. The arm is heavy, the base is large, and the bottom-side screw to secure it to the desk is strong. So there is every confidence it can handle your monitor. Overall, it looks and functions extremely well. Less often likely, you can raise and lower the arm from close to your desk to high above it, but some readjustment may be required (loose and tighten a screw) sometimes (often?) after lowering it back to where you started. You can also tilt the monitor so that it lays nearly flat, hovering over your desktop on nearly the same plane. It seems that would be terrific if you had a touch monitor and/or wanted to use it from a standing position. Such use seems unlikely, but demonstrates the vast flexibility of the MSA14. Setup criticism is fair. The guide is only a pictorial, with no explanations. The plastic covers that hide the cable channels are easy to remove and replace after doing it once, but the first time is slow. It doesn't seem natural to attach your monitor before lowering the arm to your desired position, but that's the way you need to do it, which the pictorial shows. The screw that adjusts to keep the lowered monitor at your desired height is another thing that is only difficult until you have done it once or twice. A nice part of the setup is monitor attachment. Most Dell monitors already have a quick-connect VESA bracket that attaches to the arm with ease. I believe the MSA14 provides a bracket in the box to give most other monitors the same ease of attachment, but my Dell monitor did not require that. A few tips: -For the screw adjustment that keeps the lowered monitor at your desired height, it seemed that LOOSENING the screw and THEN retightening was necessary each time I changed something that took me through the setup process again. -There are three cable covers, one on the lower half of the arm, aimed down at the desk, and two on the upper half of the arm, left and right. -For the cable covers, keep pushing the cables into the recessed slots as you SLIDE the lower cover back into place or SNAP the upper covers back into position. You have to work a bit, but it becomes easy once you learn to do it. It should be very easy for anyone who can mount the MSA14 to the rear or side of a desktop. My biggest challenge was to set the arm into a grommet hole through the top of the desk. Dell's product description said that it would fit a "standard 2.4-inch grommet hole." However, neither the setup guide nor Dell support provided any guidance for this. I was on my own, and my grommet hole was slightly smaller than 2 inches in diameter. After studying the downward extension below the base, I simply removed one plastic piece held in place by 3 small screws. (This piece would have been okay for a "2.4-inch" hole.) Then I inserted the extension through my grommet hole, starting atop the desk, and it fit snuggly but perfectly. I proceeded with normal installation of the large screw that snugs up to the bottom of the desktop. Then I reattached the plastic piece, also under the level of the desktop, which is unnecessary but provides somewhat helpful cable routing under the desk. The product design also left room for my cables to run through the grommet hole in a gap next to the back edge of the base. If you're smarter than me you'll route those HDMI/VGA lines, plus power cord, and optional audio cables (for a monitor with speakers) before you slide the base into the hole and you will not have to restart. I think the capability to fit my grommet hole is testimony to the good design of this monitor arm. I also find that the function is great. Support and installation are where this device tested my patience, but I expect many years of good use in return.

Amazing, wish I had one of these years ago

I was a bit hesitant about whether the arm would be worth the extra money, but right out of the box you can feel the quality. It is made of very heavy metal and the just feels sturdy. I have attached this to my glass coffee table, as I work from home, and I can simply relax on the sofa or a chair and adjust the monitor to whatever position I desire, and when I am not using, I simply set aside to the edge and it is out of the way. Another benefit is the extra room that I have on the table, the cords tuck neatly away into the arms and so they are nearly invisible. I can manipulate the arm to almost any position I desire and it feels very secure. I plan to get another monitor and arm for my desk, maybe two. (note: recommend getting the extra cables, they are longer than what came with monitor and fit better in the arm) The only trick is to find the right desk for it to fit, I would recommend the option of attaching to a leg of desk for those that have solid top desks.

Great product

Running out of desk space and needed to add an extra monitor to my desk. The single monitor arm fit my exact needs. Uses a clamp to attach to the desk, no need for screws. Clear assembly instructions and easy to put together. Very solidly built. I think could handle more weight than it is rated for. Easily adjustable for the size and weight of monitor you want to attach to it. John

Lasted a month under normal use, Dell will not replace or repair!

I used this with a 23 Inch souch screen Dell monitor that I purchased less than a month ago. Today I was lowering the monitor when something snapped inside and now the monitor always falls down to the lowest position. Dell calls this physical damage, so no warranty. This monitor stand was at the most used a few hours a week. Dell offered to sell me a new one, without as much as a discount on it, which I obviously refused. A waste of money.

Great.

By RbruceR

I have a relatively heavy 27" monitor (almost 16 lbs.) but this arm handles it just fine right out of the box. No adjustments needed, and the build is excellent.

The Dell MSA14 single monitor articulating arm is designed to maximize your viewing comfort and improve your productivity with its multi-adjustment capabilities such as height adjustability, tilt and swivel and pivot features. It can easily be attached to monitor panels with a simple snap to the VESA mount at the back of the monitor without the need for screws. By replacing the standard monitor base with an articulating Dell monitor arm, the space directly in front of the monitor is recovered and you will not need to strain to access work space on the desktop.

When properly positioned, the Dell monitor arm's integrated cable management feature keeps your desktop neat, offering both enhanced ergonomics and improved space utilization. This product has been tested and validated on Dell systems to ensure it will work with your computer. It is supported by Dell Technical Support when used with a Dell system.

Improve viewing comfort for better productivity
The Dell Single Monitor Arm lets you adjust your monitor any way you want, so you can achieve a more ergonomic and comfortable viewing experience. For business users in a collaborative work environment, adjustability can improve sharing of data. For gamers and other recreational users, the arm can be positioned to help relieve fatigue during extended computing sessions.

Fully adjustable articulating arm
The multi-position articulating arm allows for full adjustability of height, swivel, tilt, portrait/landscape orientations and viewing distance. A post stop provides the option to either limit swivel to 180 degrees or allow up to 360 degrees according to your needs. The arm has a height adjustment range of 10.5 inches and allows for up to 21.6 inches of depth adjustment.

Optimized for use with Dell monitors
The arm easily attaches to standard Dell Quick Release monitor panels without the need for screws or other hardware. Simply snap the monitor into place using the Quick Release slots behind the monitor panel. VESA-compliant monitors without Quick Release functionality can easily be mounted using the VESA adapter plate included in the box. The Dell Single Monitor Arm supports monitors that weigh up to 20.5 pounds.

Enjoy a more spacious and organized workspace
Replacing your monitor stand with this monitor arm lets you reclaim the space directly in front of your monitor, giving you more work space to write, reference materials and maintain good posture. This ergonomic improvement can improve your comfort, productivity and overall working experience. In addition, built-in organization tools help you eliminate clutter for a more comfortable desk environment. Integrated cable management within the arm and a Behind Desk Cable Organizer helps you keep your cables in check and maintain a neat and clean desktop.

Variable mounting options
The monitor arm can be mounted on the side, rear or slot (standard 2.4-inch grommet hole) on the desk.
