I purchased the Denon AVR-4500H seven (7) months ago, very happy with the purchased. This is the most expensive and the most advanced tech. receiver I ever owned. This serves as the hub of my TV and 7.1 system. The sound is awesome! I recommend this receiver!

When it's rolling this sounds great. Spotify connect for easy use and a analog DAC for hr music. Trough HDMI, CEC works great with tv, also ARC. Sometimes volume in app is not up to date(spotify and denon one. Latest firmware was no easy install. The amp turned off. Waited long time but no display. After reset (power cable for period out of amp) the upgrade went like it should. After that no network configuration options (greyed out) after restart again with shot power cable out it worked. Was curious about Roon update but USA only?!

Upgrading from an AVR1912, and the 4500x does everything much better. The mobile app, the web interface, the ui from the remote control, heos, wifi, bluetooth, dual subwoofers, and 9.2. Lots of options, lots of power.

This receiver is worst I have ever owned. After going through okyos/yamaha/pioneers reciever which have been good value I bought X4500H of a nightmare and have been stuck with a $1500 mistake. the receiver is stuck forever on network setup randomly after 3 months of use. Nothing seem to get it out of this mode ( reset/factory-reset/powercycle/firmware). Customer care center is absolute nightmare. their automatic voice message system does not even announce their opening hours. the folks are forever trying to make you look like a fool for buying their product. Few more days and I am tossing the entire set in to the place it belongs.. a trash can.

I'll start by mentioning things I've done to prevent problems others have had. First, it tends to run a little hot and mine is sitting on an entertainment center shelf completely open to air. I bought a USB fan and stuck it on top. Runs cool now and not warm to the touch. Also turned off eco, don't try to tame this pony. With those two tweaks I haven't run into any problems and it sounds amazing in my room using the Audyssey calibration.

When it works, the AVR-X4500H is awesome. When it works. I’ve had mine for a week now and have had a bunch of software issues that are not really acceptable from a machine of this cost and a company of this calibre. The setup process was a doddle. As others have said, the Audyssey EQ system works really well. It all connected to my home network without difficulty and the firmware updated to the latest version. So far so good. Watching movies (Netflix or Amazon Prime via Apple TV 4K) is sometimes ok but fairly regularly the auto switching of HDMI sources doesn’t work. Sometimes it does and other times I have to put the Apple TV to sleep and wake it up again to get the source to switch. Even using the Denon remote to change it doesn’t work. If I find my tv remote and change it to a different HDMI source and then back again to the ARC channel I’ll then get a signal. HDMI control is on as is ARC. Next problem is the auto selection of audio modes. I’ll be watching a 5.1 source but only getting stereo sound. I can manually change to Dolby surround in the settings using the iOS app (which is also pretty poor to be honest) but according to the info screen on the amp, the input signal is just stereo. On 3 occasions since I bought this product a week ago, sound has been lost completely and I’ve had to go back to using the TV speakers. I spent a while going through every setting I could find but all it said was that it was receiving no audio signal. Video was working just fine. After a lot of messing around the only solution I could find was to restore factory settings. I’d saved my config on USB but it was still a pain. Also, for some reason the amp won’t let you load a previously saved configuration until it is connected to your home network. This means digging out your WiFi password and entering it using the clunky on screen keyboard. Why on earth do you have to do this before you load a config with a USB stick physically plugged in to the front? Another irritation is that when listening to 5.1 audio via my Virgin V6 box, the centre channel level is way too loud for my tastes. When watching sport the commentary booms out the centre speaker with almost nothing coming from the stereo or surround speakers at all. No signal whatsoever goes to the sub which stubbornly stays in standby. I can turn it on manually but after a few minutes it turns itself off again as it’s getting no input. The info screen on the amp says it’s outputting to 5.1 channels but clearly it isn’t. My old £250 sound bar gave a more immersive sound when watching the football. I can improve things by manually reducing the centre level but the Denon doesn’t remember settings made for a particular source so the you have to do this each time. It’s really irritating. Overall this is clearly an excellent AV amplifier but is hugely let down by buggy software both on the machine itself and the iOS app. I am planning on returning it in exchange for one from a different manufacturer as it just isn’t a pleasant machine to live with.

Just a background, this is my 3rd Denon reciever and most expensive one, so you can imagine my disappointed when the receiver stopped functioning properly after 2 weeks of purchase. Purchased brand new from Fry's Electronics. The receiver has had to be hard reset/factory settings 4 times in the last 2 weeks, it stops passing HDMI and audio and does not respond to the remote unless it is reset. I loved my Denon recievers so much that the price tag and this unit is really taking a toll on my confidence in the brand. I have tried calling customer support to see if I can get a replacement/repair and the line hangs up on me because they are too busy. All I ask is for some help from Denon as it looks like I got a faulty $1500 product.

I purchased this AVR-X4500H to replace an old Sony Dolby Surround receiver. The support for the new sound formats is awesome, and the sound quality is very good compared to my old Sony and Adcom system. It is at least as good if not better in audio quality and the surround effects are obviously much improved. My only real complaint so far would be the clunky (awkward & ill-proportioned remote that lacks back-lighting. A few of the top buttons do light up, and the rest are semi-opaque so it would appear that they would light up if there was a bulb in the lower portion of the remote, which apparently there is not. Having spent $1,600.00+ on a receiver and then having to fumble with the buttons in the dark while watching movies, hitting stop on accident instead of pause and having to restart a blu-ray etc, is really not acceptable in this price range and I just don't understand the logic behind such a simple thing that makes the whole system feel cheap. I am now on the hunt for a back-lit universal remote that will give me semi-full functionality of the AVR and other components (Blu-ray, CD, TV). Does Denon have an in-house back-lit remote available that would work with this AVR? Sad to have a negative feeling about such an otherwise great receiver but at the moment I am having some buyer's remorse over this cheap remote.

I really liked the sound out of this unit, unfortunately the first unit I bought had software issues where the network setup would not function properly and I could not reset the network settings, even with a full reset or firmware update and reset. I returned this to the store after hours of troubleshooting and figured it was a bad unit. The second unit worked for a week and then started requesting a software update. Since everything was working I did not want to tempt fate again and told it to not update. Then the system started going into loops of not responding to the setup commands (remote or on the device itself). It also stopped passing signals when the device was on but will pass them through when the device is off. Now I have no access to the setup menu at all. After spending hours again trying to get the device working again yesterday the device started an update, so I let it finish and then it worked fine the rest of the evening. When I returned to the unit today, once again it is not working, not passing signal and the setup menu is inaccessible. Tried multiple attempts even with no cables connected and the setup menu remains inaccessible. Not worth the hassle.

This is truly a quality receiver now available at a great price. Movie effects steering is blistering in its delivery and 2 channel music also gets some love, Denon did a great job with this receiver, Yes a fraction more power to the on board amplification woluld be nice but then I added a Denon POA-T10 to drive the front channels thus allowing the onboard amplification to breath more. The Denon recivers are probably the most feature rich right now, so no worries of having to do an early upgrade. I use to own an older Denon avc a1 HD which was lovely then moved to other brands. That was a mistake, maybe I just like the Denon sound, but the quality can’t be beaten, nor as said the features, Buy with confidence. Oh and the Audyssey app for mobile devices was a god send, made setup a breeze. And please go Dolby Atmos, you won’t regret it as long as you don’t go ceiling reflective type speakers, tried it not a patch on downward firing speakers which I now have and wow, what a difference, Denon, thank you, great product. Thrilled with it, wish I could of afforded the x8500.but I have to eat :-)

I wish I could give more than 5 stars. It sounds much clear, more pounch and power than 4400. It sounds better than the theater. The rumbling from the movies is really heart pounding. It sounded so good during dvd player setup, I suspended the setup. I'm more than happy for the upgrade. In fact, I'm very happy for all the upgrades, 4200, 4300, 4400 and 4500. The setup is very easy with graphical display. The speaker calibration added room correction. I did the firmware upgrade during initial setup. The back panel is the same as 4400. The remote is also the same. It runs cooler in temperature than 4400. It seems to me the video is even betther in 4k after the receiver but it could be illusion. I'm looking forward for 4600 upgrade. Denon is for life. Denon engineers are amazing.

Finally at long last I was able to get this state of the art home theater receiver and and a new set of Klipsch speaker system. It is so awesome to watch movies and hear surround like never before. Set it up for Dolby Atmos with a 10 speaker system. Sounds fantastic and works perfect with the new 4k Fire TV stick and my Sharp 3d TV for on, off, volume, etc. Love it.
