I thought the look was a bit odd when I was shopping for a new turntable. I read reviews and spoke to audio pros. I n the end I was convinced this was a good product. I am very pleased with my experience. I am hearing demission and depth in my music that I did not know existed. My Nat King Cole records sound like I am hearing them for the first time.

I had a Denon AVR-1802 collecting Dust from years ago. I decided to rediscover vinyl and rebuild my collection from childhood. I did some research and chose the DP-300 based on a review from Wirecutter. After getting it setup and placed in its spot alongside the AVR, I realized the hinged dust cover was not really going to work in my space. That is when I decided to go up a step and purchase the DP-400. I liked the fully automatic features of the 300, but the dust cover was killing me. The DP-400 is great in most ways and I really appreciate the removable cover that I can use to display my album art while listening. I ended up swapping the supplied cartridge with a Grado Prestige Gold 3. The supplied cart was just fine, but I appreciate the enhanced midrange I am getting now. I like that the TT auto stops at the end, but I wish it would return the tonearm to its home location. It's not really a complaint; it's just a wish. The only real complaint is how sensitive the counterweight is. It is very tricky to get the tone arm balanced. The slightest movement forward or back has it bobbing wildly. The tonearm lever is also very far back so it can be a little tough to reach when stored in a cabinet. All in all, I am very pleased with the turntable. Since I keep it in a cabinet, I am less concerned about dust and appreciate the cover other dislike.

What's the minimum dimension without the cover? I have a 1950s console with a limited space. I have a pro-ject carbon I want to replace.

We have this connected to a speaker, but due to space (living in a small NYC apartment) we would like to connect this to our Marshall speaker via Bluetooth as we won't want wires crossing the living room. Is there a way to make the player adaptable so we don't need to plug in a speaker? Thanks so much.

This is a great priced record player. Paired it with Yamaha S-501 and Fluance floor standing speakers. Visually it is equally very pleasing. Cover is awkward but it is actually very functional for me. It can be used as record cover display. Also, it is better for me to take it off and leave the player open. Stock stylus is not bad. I however also purchased an high end $450 AT stylus which improved the sound considerably but given that this record player cost as the same, I would not expect Denon to include an expensive cartridge. My recommendation is that you should upgrade the stock cartridge with perhaps an AT costing around $100. It will make a huge difference. I am disappointed with Denon however that it doesn't offer reasonably priced cartridges. I would really like to buy a 110 cartridge for less than $200. Overall, this is a great record player. I highly recommend it.

Great TT from Denon. There was a reason that I held onto all my vinyls. Ones that I purchased back in the 70s. The vinyls spinning on the DP-400 along with Bowers and Wilkins speakers sounds fabulous!

I had been wanting a new table. There was nothing wrong with mine, but I was ready to update. After much reading and sifting through reviews I decided on the DP400. I have a denon reciever and knew the quality would be there. I did upgrade to an ortofon red cartridge and this turntable just sings! I think a lot of time was put into making a quality table and tone arm that it's expected to that the stock cartridge isn't quite up to par. I also don't mind the dust cover. Would I prefer a cover that totally seals off the table? Yes. But this one looks cool and again, I think it was a way to save money and focus that into the quality of the rest of the components.

I bought this turntable from Music Direct about 8 months ago, had been playing it regularly and enjoy it. This turntable sounds very good, I changed the cartridge for a MoFi Studio Tracker MM, it looks very nice and is well built, has the auto lift function which is very convenient and you can disable it if you prefer, at the same time is a manual operation TT which is better than an automatic in my opinion as a hi fi enthusiast. Now the dust cover is inconvenient and does not protect from dust geting in. I will like suggesting Denon to provide an alternative for a regular dust cover, even to buy separately.

Be careful you are aware it is not a fully automatic turntable.

This is my first turntable and I think it is really great. The included cartridge is OK but when upgrading to the still quite inexpensive AT-VM95E, the sound is more mature and tidy, bass is more powerful and suddenly new details emerge. I think Denon should include this cart as standard with its turntable, people that had another turntable before with a better cartridge might get an average first impression of the table. On the upside, including this supercheap cart should mean that more R & D money went into the table itself and that's a good thing because you can always upgrade the cart whereas you cannot get a new tonearm. The turntable is a real looker. Only downfall might be that the included phono preamp still adds its own capacitance when using an external one.

Stock cartridge is of low quality much like any other brand. Removable dust cover is annoying and not practical if you have a cat. Turntable broke after about 4 months. Called Denon 5 times. Message says they are busy and to call back before cutting you off.

I purchased while renewing myself back into the vinyl record fold. The DP-400 did not disappoint! A quality turntable for the price.. I did upgrade the stylus to an Ortofon 2M Red.

I did a lot of research before getting the DP-400 (on sale to replace a 38 year old TT. The DP-400 has excellent specs and sounds great. Speed is constant, tone arm easy to work with and never had issue with the semi auto function. Only wish is that it come with a better cartridge. I had a Grado Black from previous TT and mounted it and the music improved 25%. I purchased a Grado Red stylus and sound is amazing. Bass, highs, horns and vocals are excellent. This turntable is virtually silent. Buy it you'll love it.

I've had my turntable for 1 year now and haven't gotten one good day of play from it. The platter is noticeably wobbly. The turntable sounds like a cassette player when the batteries begin to die. I've spent 9 months buying new stylus, speakers and other equipment to address the sound before I realized it was the turntable. Spent 3 months with Denon support and they keep closing my ticket promising a new platter that never arrives. Recommend going with another dealer for the support alone. Not having a turntable for 1 year is awful.

We upgraded from the audiotechnica 120 to the DP-400 and from the first lick on the first album played you could hear the difference. I recommend this turntable

I Picked up this turntable a few months ago, and I love it. The setup of the tone arm was pretty easy to follow. I Think it sounds great and the build is quality. I also like the unique design of the Turntable cover and stand that also holds your record sleave.

This sophisticated turntable is designed to play your cherished vinyl records with precision, faithfully reproducing the original recording. The DP-400 is part of the renowned Denon Design Series, known for its strong construction and elegant aesthetics that seamlessly blend with your existing audio equipment.
The DP-400 features a re-engineered tonearm with an auto lift and playback stop. This carefully designed, curved, horizontal tracking angled tonearm lifts automatically and stops the platter when the vinyl reaches the end of playback. This not only preserves the excellent condition of your album but also reduces harmonic distortion, ensuring a crystal clear sonic signal every time you listen.
The weighted, belt-driven platter supports 33 1/3 rpm, 45 rpm, or 78 rpm records with an integrated auto sensor that accurately controls the platter, preventing unwanted speed fluctuations during playback. This ensures you enjoy audio reproduction exactly as the artist intended.
The DP-400 also includes an integrated phono equalizer that creates an open, enveloping sound stage for your cherished albums, providing detailed, accurate reproduction. It comes with an MM cartridge for more precise listening and added musical detail, but also supports MC cartridges, allowing you to easily swap out the existing cartridge to fit your audio preferences.
The turntable's exclusive, removable dust cover not only adds to its modern design but also eliminates vibration issues that affect music quality associated with attached covers.
