This product may be extinct by now but I'm sorry to report very poor and capricious performance PhotoSafe II will tell you it's copying but may or may not actually copy and to cap it all it corrupted a 16GB SD card causing me to spend more than the cost of the unit to recover the files.

I need to back up photos on travel when there's no room/weight for a laptop. This unit fills that need. I've uploaded and deleted five cards' worth in testing and it works fine. I don't like what others have noted - that it stores everything on the card, which makes for a lot of redundancy. I hope to get to a public computer now and then to delete the early files. There are more elegant units at higher prices - this one does OK. I can't get the battery compartment open, but it may not matter for a long time. I'm getting another.

Use it for diving. After each dive I download pics then I have a fresh card for the next dive.

Needed a portable drive on an international trip. This worked great for my needs, but I didn't need anything too fancy. Only downside is the transfer seemed pretty slow. Took 20 mins for an 8GB card. But it was worth it to have the convenience of backing up my files w/o having to take a laptop or external hard drive. Only other thing is the battery didn't seem to last long. Had to have it plugged in alot more than I thought I would need to.

Using this 'hard disk' to transfer images and videos taken during my trip. I used it at home before leaving: was very slow with only the battery (battery even discharged completely while transfering) but, fast enough when plugged. Images are great and at least I won't have to use many cards. The one used was completely filled and furnished with the camera: a Platinum 16GB 5 HDC

I've never written a product review, but the Photo Safe II is in a special category of awfulness. I bought the 500GB version to save video files out in the field, but on the first day the CF pins got bent and transfer from CF to the device was impossible. Okay, I thought, I'll just transfer files via the USB, but on the second day the USB recepticle got loose and broke off. Left with no way to input files or even save the few files I had already transfered via USB, the Photo Safe II went in the garbage. The company did offer to "repair" the item, but it is way way beyond repair.

I bought the Photo Safe to backup my CF cards for au upcoming three week trip to Morocco. I have tested it here at home and found it straight forward and easy to use although a little slow. My only quible is that it comes in a rather unaspiring gun metal gray color.

Photo Safe II OTG easily copies the entire contents of your memory card with its convenient one-touch 'Auto Copy' button, which features copy speeds of up to 5.0MB/sec, so a full 1GB card can be copied in approximately 3.5 minutes. Photo Safe II OTG directly works with all popular card formats, including CF, SD, SDHC, Memory Stick, MS PRO, MS Duo, and MS PRO Duo. (*Note: SDXC card is not supported.)
You can also widen your perspective of any event by making a copy from the memory cards of other photographers before the event is over.
Copies All Formats with Copy Status Indicators
Photo Safe II OTG copies all file formats (including RAW images and videos), in their original file name and file structure. While you cannot display the photos or videos on the Photo Safe II OTG screen, you can access the copied files by connecting it to a computer. Its icon backlit LED screen shows key system information, including operational status, battery life, remaining hard drive space, and active partition.
Copy status indicator displays percentage completed during copy; copy confirmation; and number of files copied upon completion. A unique folder name that indicates media card type and copy sequence is automatically created for each copy task to help you keep organized.
View Photos on Devices that Support USB-OTG Standard
Photo Safe II OTG is able to connect to smartphones and tablets that support the USB-OTG function. Using the included USB-OTG cable, Photo Safe II OTG can be connected to the USB port of a Smartphone or Tablet that supports the USB-OTG standard.
When connected, you will be able to view the photos and videos stored on the Photo Safe II OTG hard drive according to the features allowed by the Smartphone or Tablet. In typical cases, the Smartphone or Tablet will include the Photo Safe II OTG photos and videos in the Gallery app for viewing and playback. Note that not all Smartphones and Tablets support USB-OTG.
User-removable and Rechargeable Li-Ion Battery
Photo Safe II OTG battery life is approximately 16GB of copy on a full charge. The battery compartment is easy to access when you need to remove and replace the Li-Ion battery. You can recharge the Li-Ion battery by connecting Photo Safe II OTG to the included external AC power adapter or to the computer USB port. There is also a car adapter available separately, if you want to recharge the battery in your vehicle.
If you are looking to extend the battery power of Photo Safe II OTG without access to AC power through a wall outlet, take a look at Battery Porter 12000, Battery Porter 8000, or Battery Porter 5200, which are external battery packs that provide additional power to the Photo Safe II. If you are looking for a device to recharge the Photo Safe II OTG battery outside the device, take a look at the Universal Battery Charger.
Access Your Backups on the Computer
Photo Safe II OTG is compatible with both Windows and Mac OS computers with no special driver required. Simply connect Photo Safe II OTG to your computer through USB connection to access your saved photos and videos. Each backup created will be in a separate folder with the folder names made up of 2 pieces of information.
The first two characters are letters that indicate the type of memory card copied. The next 5 characters are sequential numbers starting from '00001' that that indicate the order of the folder created for the specific card format copied. For example, a folder name 'SD00003' means that this is a backup from a SD card, and this is the 3rd folder created for the SD card format.
Doubles as a External Hard Drive
When Photo Safe II OTG is connected to the computer, the computer will recognize it as an USB Mass Storage Device. The computer will map the hard drive to its device manager and allow you to access it just like any other storage device on your computer. With its 500GB capacity, you can use Photo Safe II OTG like an external hard drive. For Windows computers, Photo Safe II OTG will function like a memory card reader making the memory card slots accessible through the computer interface.
Please note that if you ever need to reformat the Photo Safe hard drive, it needs to be formatted in FAT32 format (in Windows) or MS-DOS format (in Mac) for the card copy function to work. When the Photo Safe hard drive is formatted in a file format other than FAT32, it will work as an external hard drive when connected to your computer, but the stand-alone card copying feature will not work.
Copy Directly to CF Card from SD, SDHC, MS or MS Duo Card
You can also use Photo Safe II OTG to copy card content from a SD, SDHC, Memory Stick, MS PRO Duo, or MS Duo card directly onto a CF card. You might find this feature useful when you want to make an additional backup from a SD or MS card to a CF card, or when you want to make a copy of the photos from or to a friend's memory card.
