Cinematographers call this a "French flag." Very useful for outdoor shooting - wide, macro medium; often used in combo with matte box holding filters. A very useful light control instrument for portraits and product shots. Eliminates flare caused by studio lighting, or glare from the sun. How could you not have one?!
