About DJI RS 5
The DJI RS 5 is a support system for DSLR and mirrorless videography and filmmaking. It helps creators make smooth camera movements and frame scenes with precision. With the AI Tracking Module, fine-tune knobs, and enhanced stabilization algorithms, the gimbal provides balance, stability, and control for demanding shoots.
If you shoot dynamic scenes, such as walking and running, or prefer long panning moves, the DJI RS 5 is definitely worth having in your kit.
Ideal for mirrorless cameras, the DJI RS 5's tested payload is 6.6 lbs (3 kg). Despite that capacity, the gimbal itself weighs just 2.63 lbs (1.19 kg) including the quick-release plates, so it stays manageable for long handheld sessions.
Intelligent Tracking and Better Compositions
The gimbal features a new intelligent tracking module that helps you frame a subject and track it during shooting. It attaches via a magnetic mount, weighs only 0.04 lbs (19 grams), and allows you to keep the subject’s position within the frame and, if the subject is a person, even to find it after it has exited the frame for a moment. Nevertheless, the tracking module can track animals, objects, vehicles, and people within a distance range of 1.6 - 32.8 feet (0.5 - 10 meters).
You can trigger the module using the gimbal’s trigger, gestures, or the built-in touchscreen.
Better Stabilization Algorithm & Torque
Compared to the previous model, the RS 5 features a 50% increase in peak motor torque. The result is improved stability in fast-moving scenes, whether shooting while walking, running, or in vertical scenes.
A Z-Axis Indicator
The new indicator shows vertical movement (such as bouncing) to help you adjust your motion and achieve smooth, steady professional shots.
Improved Workflow
The DJI RS 5 features fine-tuning knobs on each arm and Teflon interlayers that reduce friction on the arms. The adjustments are smooth and precise, and even the heaviest setup is balanced with ease.
Shooting vertically is just as easy. A knob is loosened and pressed, the horizontal plate is rotated to 90 degrees, and voilà, you have the setup ready for native vertical shooting.
If you need to switch between gimbal and tripod, there’s no need for rebalancing because the Arca-Swiss upper plate and Manfrotto lower plate feature position memory.
In addition, upon power-off or sleep, the 2nd-Gen Automated Axis Locks system locks the gimbal. You can move it to a new position and power it on. The same system will unlock it.
Thus, all your energy can be spent on creative tasks, not on adjusting the setup.
The New Electronic Briefcase Handle
The new handle improves single-handed operation, featuring a joystick and buttons you can use to adjust the camera and stabilizer settings. The handle lets you achieve very low, creative camera angles and provides optimal grip. It connects via an RSA port and weighs 0.51 lbs (230 grams).
Faster Charging and Extended Battery Life
The RS 5 battery lasts for up to 14 hours in standby, a 15% increase compared to the previous model. DJI has also improved charging efficiency by about 60%, achieving an astonishing 1-hour charging time when using the included BG33 Battery Grip with a 65W USB-C PD charger.
To conserve battery, you can use the OLED screen's auto-locking feature. When locked, the screen displays information at a low brightness.
If you still need more battery life, you can add the DJI RS BG70 high-capacity battery grip to your gear. It extends battery life to up to 30 hours.
Bluetooth Shutter for More Cameras
The DJI RS 5 now supports specific Panasonic and Fujifilm cameras in addition to Sony, Canon, and Nikon cameras. Once the Bluetooth connection is confirmed, you can control shooting, such as zoom and shutter, remotely.
Support for Accessories and Apps
The gimbal supports the DJI Focus Pro Motor. With two of them, you can adjust zoom and focus from the stabilizer. Additionally, the RS 5 also pairs with the DJI Focus Pro LiDAR. This adds automatic subject-distance sensing, allowing the Focus Pro Motor to pull focus accurately even in low light or on subjects with little contrast. It also supports the DJI SDR Transmission for high-definition live feeds and remote gimbal and camera control.

Thanks to the RSA port, you can use the Electronic Briefcase Handle and other accessories from DJI or third parties. The DJI RS 5 SDK protocol is open source, allowing other manufacturers to develop features for the RS 5.
The gimbal also supports the DJI Ronin app, available for iOS and Android. You can use the app to update firmware, make fine-tuned adjustments with a virtual joystick, and benefit from the creative features library.
