Questions & Answers

Mark W : What size are these grey cards? They look 8.5X11 inch, but really want to know for sure. Also are they plasticized? I want to use them outdoors.STEPHEN M : They're 8 1/2 x 11TERENCE F : I have not measured them but they are close to 8.5 x 11 inch if not. They are not plasticized. The plastic would be shinny and reflect light giving a false setting.ROBERT T : I don't have in front of me right at the moment. But if memory serves me they are 8 X 10 or larger.MICHAEL S : Yes, I think they are 8.5 x11". No, they are NOT plastic. They are cardboard.
Shopper : Is this 18% gray?KATHRYN L : Yes, I believe it is.DENNIS W : Yes.EUGENE S : Yes - and quite satisfied as well.
Shopper : My daughter just started photography classes and the teacher said to get a grey card "cheap, but true neutral". Is that this? ThanksJOSEPH B : Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but the gray card is used as a reference in a photo editor to adjust white balance. Take a picture of the gray card where your subject will be (if a person, have the person hold it). Then in the photo editor you use the eye dropper tool to make the gray card a reference to adjust the white balance of any photo. To make a custom white balance setting in-camera, you photograph a pure white source in the present lighting.MICHAEL S : Yes, this is the kind of gray card you need.KATHRYN L : Yes, this is a neutral grey card. It's a great size, too!EUGENE S : yesDARREN C : Yes! That will work. Best of luck to her.ENID P : Yes, buy this inexpensive white balance card set. Using custom white balance makes a world of difference in getting good skin tones. most serious photographers use the custom white balance settings in their digital cameras. It's a good thing to learn this while you're still young.CRIS A : Yes, if she has a DSLR, she will be able to take a photo of the gray card and use that photo as the custom white balance. Same is true in post production. All she would have to do is have the gray card in the photo she will be shooting and in post production, select the gray card and apply to all images that use the same lighting.KELSEY L : This worked great for my black and white film and digital classes. It should be perfect!WILLIANS L : Grey card is has a neutral gray color. This is a great tool for novices and professionals. The answer to your question is Yes. Best William LARRY F : Yup, this is it. I use one all the time.DAVID B : There is some debate about what neutral gray is. I have this card and it works very well for setting the white balance in my Nikon and Olympus systems using LightRoom as my post processing aplication. The card is also a good size so that it doesn't get lost when testing against the natural light in a capture.

Not exciting as a new lens.

Hey it is an 18% grey card not horribly exciting product. It is what was expected and really nice. Large cards actually cut them in half. Thick stock nice product. Very happy with purchase.

Having issues;(

I have used the card 3x now. Once indoors and twice outside. I have a Nikon D3000 and was using my Nikkor 50mm. I set my custom white balance with the gray card. My photos turned out way too warm. They looked like a sepia effect was applied to them. I was really hopeful that i would have more accurate exposure and not worse. Any advice?????

A must-have for both film and digital

Gray cards have long been the photographer's "secret" to getting a near-perfect exposure (if you want to find out why there are plenty of online technical articles that go into in-depth explanations). Gray cards work for not only film, but digital too! These cards are really sturdy (I even used them as a background to drape jewelry over which I photographed for a client) and will hold up to lots of use. As a bonus the backsides are printed with easy, clear instructions in their use. If you're looking for the near-perfect exposure get these cards, use them according to instructions, and of course always remember to bracket. 9 out of 10 times I will grab one of my gray cards instead of my light meter.

I would buy this product again.

I use this mainly indoors to make sure that my white balance is correct. It is a good product and in fact is the second time that I purchased it. I could not find my first purchase and so bought it again. Of course I found my first one after the second came in but will keep both. It is cardboard so that is why I said not durable. Just keep it dry and it will serve for a long time.

Delta Gray Cards

I have struggled to get an accurate white balance when taking candid photos in my home.It saves you the time and trouble of adjusting WB in post-processing photos, and is very accurate.Back includes instructions for those that do not know how to use a gray card. If you are new to gray cards, get this one. Price is right and it will be the best thing you ever did for better photos.

does its job and is big enough

This is a nice, good sized gray card that seems accurate enough and it is inexpensive and thus is easily replaced if it gets damaged. And you get two, so you have a spare. I just wish the back side was a calibrated white. Instructions could be on a separate, foldable little sheet rather than on the back. And for my purposes at least, it is much better to have a larger gray card like this than some of the small ones that are available. I can use my spot metering mode and get the whole spot metering area inside the card area even at a bit of distance. I don't have to be right on top of it, possibly casting some shadow on it.

ABSOLUTELY INDISPENSIBLE

The Gray Card is one of those mandatory items that MUST be in every photographer's bag--especially in the digital age. For night shooting in urban settings where lighting simply sucks, there is nothing like the Gray Card for customizing White Balance. The card is easy to use; when the cards get old (the grey surface gets roughed up over time), I replace them and use the old cards as "field" mouse pads with my laptop. I carry them with my laptop in my camera pack.

Does what I need it to

So far I've used these with my indoor pix. It was cheaper to buy the gray card to calibrate my Nikon D50 to my 5500k lights than it was to buy software that can work with NEF files.

Perfect for digital white balance

Don't listen to anyone about this gray card not great for digital white balance. Gray is neutral in all aspects with digital photography, Therefor this card is perfect for setting the white balance. You need to shoot the gray card for each type of scene with the lights that you will be using. I use these for professional wedding shots, Glamour shots and all other model shots. Gray is better than setting the white balance to a white card or black card. The 18% reflective is also a myth, The perfect reflectiveness is 12%. But 18% is close enough, That you can't tell a difference.

Could be better.

These cards are nice, heavy duty cardboard and quite large. They could be cut into pieces if desired. My problem with them is that the back side isn't white and therefore can't be used for digital white balancing. I tried using the gray side for that purpose and it doesn't work. They would be so much more useful with little or no additional cost.
