Questions & Answers

Michael W : What is the dimensions and volume of this tank?
Shopper : does this have slots in the side for the film or do i need hangers ?ANDREW R : Unfortunately no, the interior is not slotted. Use of this tank requires sheet film hangers (not included).
Shopper : How does it work?Robert H : This item is a " Dip Tank ". You must place your exposed film sheets in hangers and then you move from tank to tank for each step of the development process. This entire operation must be carried out in complete darkness up to the point where the sheets are fixed and ready for washing. If you are not able to set up your operation in a totally dark place you might want to investigate using a drum type tank that allows for "daylight" processing of your film. Large format negatives, such as 8x10 are often processed in trays one sheet at a time. This is also done in complete darkness.JOAN M : Hi-I have not really used it--I can't use chemicals in my apartment now so will be send film out for developement. Just google it and I am sure you will find answers. I would fill the tank with H2O w/o film in it to see how much chemicals you will need. Use a darkroom to load film or a very large changing bag and slide film into the slots.NANCY U : YES, 8x10 sheet film requires complete darkness to be develope with either the open tray method or the "plastic sheet film developing tanks" which will also require an 8x10 hangar for each sheet of film being developed in the tank. Most tanks have room for 4 to 6 sheets of film to be developed at the same time.MICHELLE C : Dear Adorama Shopper: I have had limited experience with similar tanks for the 4x5 format. What I have learned is that you are better off processing in the darkroom using open trays as described in Ansel Adam's books. the main issues are difficulties with loading and uneven development. Considering the effort and cost of shooting sheet film (especially 8x10), I suggest that you work with the tray method before exploring the tanks. I hope that this helps and happy shooting.Nicholas A : That's a broad question, it may be beneficial to read the manufacturer's manual. It's essentially like any other developing tank except its sheet film. The sheets go into a holder and then into the tank. There are valves for pouring in/out the water. NICHOLAS H : This type of developing tank requires loading in the dark, but then you can turn on the lights, and pour in the developer. I use a small changing tent (with light tight arm ports) to unload my film holders, and place into the tank sheet film holders. Once loaded, you can place everything into the tank, and put it's light tight lid on. You are then done with darkness. Hope this helps.. NickJ. WILLIAM S : It must be loaded in a black bag or darkroom. Once the cover is sealed, you pour in your chemicals in and out the same order you would do it in tays in the darkroom. It's not easy. Some users get 3 or four of them and switch between each, with a single chemical batch in each and the top off, in the darkroom. It's good for batching development, basically.
