I use two, one for watching the temperature inside the bottle of solution, and another wired or clipped to the faucet to watch the temperature of the warm water I run over the outside of the bottle to heat it up. I like an analog instrument for this, because the moving needle gives you a more intuitive feel for the RATE OF CHANGE as the temperatures vary, versus just watching the numbers on a.digital display rush by. Sculptor's aluminum armature wire approx. 6 to 8 gauge can be handy for wiring one in place to monitor your faucet stream temperature. The sculptor's wire is an alloy that's very tolerant of re-bending without becoming brittle after a lot of little adjustments. I also enjoy using a simply designed, well-made instrument with no batteries. I prefer these over the old glass-mercury type ever since I broke a glass-mercury thermometer when the heat went out of control and broke the bulb.

Bought one, it didn't seem to be calibrated properly (we have a known good one to compare). Cheers to Adorama, who promptly sent us a replacement that worked perfectly. Until someone dropped it. So purchased another, this one too has been working flawlessly.
