While maintaining a sleek and compact design, the DPA 5100 Mobile Surround Microphone stands as a testament to innovative audio engineering, delivering unparalleled sound quality without the need for external signal processing. This high-quality microphone is the perfect tool for capturing immersive surround ambience with exceptional clarity, making it an ideal choice for professional HDTV production, including sports events and documentaries.
Crafted with durability in mind, the DPA 5100 boasts a robust construction that confidently withstands challenging weather conditions, ensuring reliable performance in any environment. Its portability is unmatched, offering versatile mounting options such as camera attachment, microphone stand, suspension, or handheld use with a hand grip, making it a go-to solution for on-the-go audio professionals.
The microphone's innovative design features five miniature pressure transducers that are remarkably immune to wind and mechanical noise, ensuring low distortion and a consistent low-frequency response across a dynamic range. The DPA 5100 utilizes the brand's proprietary DiPMic technology, which equips the left, center, and right omni capsules with interference tubes, enhancing channel separation and directionality. Acoustic baffles further refine the discrete analog output channels, maintaining precise level accuracy.
The three front microphones of the DPA 5100 are time-aligned to prevent comb filtering, guaranteeing exceptional frequency consistency when downmixing to stereo or mono formats. The rear microphones, designed with standard omnidirectional patterns, are strategically placed to emulate natural time arrival differences, contributing to the microphone's ability to produce a realistic surround sound experience.
For the low-frequency effects channel, the LFE (.1) is ingeniously derived from a left/right sum, attentively attenuated by 10 dB to align with the 5.1 surround sound format. The result is a rich, smooth, and fully enveloping surround atmosphere that excels in coherence, channel separation, and localization accuracy.
Connectivity is made simple and efficient through the use of a multi-pin Lemo connector that transmits all six balanced channels, accompanied by a five-meter (16 ft) six-pair Mogami cable with a breakout to six Neutrik XLR-M connectors, ensuring compatibility with a wide range of audio equipment.
In summary, the DPA 5100 Mobile Surround Microphone is a durable, high-quality, innovative, portable, and versatile audio solution that offers professionals the ability to capture authentic surround sound with ease and precision.
