Not sure which is worst between the software and the hardware. It's a race to the bottom for sure. I've had this for about over a year and its battery is dead which makes this product useless. The software is ridiculously disappointing.

Dymo makes the saddest excuse for software I've ever encountered in my life. And this is supposed to be used by professionals? 9 out of 10 times it doesn't recognize my LabelManager; it crashes randomly; tells me there's no updates, while there clearly are newer versions available on the Dymo website (which doesn't have valid SSL certificates; it pollutes my documents folder with out some useless folders; it wants to be a separate address book manager (how about using system api's?) I recommend you guys hire actual programmers to create your software or just outsource it to a company who hire actual programmers. I hope you guys are ashamed of yourselves. Looking for an alternative to Dymo so I never have to pollute my computer with crapware like this ever again. I haven't encountered the battery issues other people have had, but that'll probably just be a matter of time.

The software is slow (and terrible). The hardware is slow. It is inexplicably battery powered. When the battery gives up, it costs almost as much as a new unit. DO NOT BUY.

Loved this when I first purchased but now... I have purchased 3 of these units over the course of the last couple of years. Originally one for work and one for home. Got a third one after the battery stopped charging-guess I should have read the reviews before buying another. Now I have 3 junk units to dispose of and a whole pile of unused D1 cassettes. Not shelling out $$ to replace a battery at about the same price that I paid for the original unit.

This worked great until I got my Mac upgraded. Now when I open v8 I get a notification that needs to run Add Network Printer Utility, and then it doesn't detect it. Can't use it at all anymore.

The battery in my LabelManager worked for about 2 years. Instead of buying a new very expensive original replacement battery i just bought a standard rechargable 9V battery (6LR61, 6LF22 or PP3). The battery plus side should be far inside in the LabelManager (look at the original battery where plus and minus are). The LabelManager wount break if you accedenty mount the battery the wrong way, I have tested... 20 mm foam rubber will hold the new battery in place.

like everyone else that has written a review here, i experienced the same battery failure problem after a little more that a year. I believe this problem is probably widespread and effects every unit of this product. Demo should pull this printer off the market - continuing to see it as-is is in extremely bad faith. ps. i did try to resolve this through their helpline first, but never heard back from them... so, yeah.

I bought my PnP almost two years ago and have printed 8 cartridges and it just worked perfectly. Now it has not been turned on for 14 days and is completely dead. A new battri costs almost the same as the machine and I know it is a general problem known to dealers. Mine is purchased in Europe, where there is a two-year warranty, but no help from the dealer on the battery part. Beware!

I live in Chile, and i bought this product 2 years ago, it works fine for a year, then the battery started failing. I did'nt print 1 roll i those 2 years. Now the battery did'nt work and you can't use it "if the battery is not charged". Please don't waste your money in this product

This is my second one. The battery died just over a year on both (warranty period is 1 yr and need to purchase a new battery for just about the cost of a entire new unit. While the labeler is great. Once of the best I have seen and I love using it. /so easy and simple, be prepare to purchase a new battery in a year. The unit is connect to a usb which is a power source and has a rechargeable battery, but once it fails while not work. Both units battery failed in just over a year. Same as other reviewers. I would give this 10 stars if it charged or worked with just the USB or if the battery did cost so much.

So disappointed. This is my second one, literally wore the first one out, loved it. This one is brand new and the top of the letters doesn’t print. Wrote to the company and their recommendation to hopefully fix the most likely issue-dust- is rather complicated. Expected something that worked out of the box, not requiring owner maintenance before it works. What happened to quality control? In addition what opens is the lite version, I have to hunt for the full version

I had this label maker for about a year when the battery went bad. As others have mentioned once the battery fails you are out of luck unless you want to pay an unreasonable amount for a new battery. Even if you follow the battery care instructions it will fail in too short of a time. Should have been designed to accept disposable batteries or an alternate plug in power source. Bad enough that the labels cost so much but now I have to pay for a battery if I want to keep using the product.

Bought this unit over a year ago and now it will not turn on. After reading many reviews, it most likely is the battery. A very disappointing and expensive mistake (unit itself was $129.99) since we ordered extra labels and will not be using them now as well. Went against my better judgement to order this unit for my school library but figured I had had such good luck with the 450 Twin Turbo in another library that it was worth trusting the name. Wrong!

The unit worked well initially and I was very happy with it. The poor rating is due to battery issues. After 2 years, 9 months of ownership the battery would not take a charge, rendering the unit worthless. The battery failure was with light usage. I only used the LabelManager PnP a few times. I was only on my second label cassette, the cassette that came with the unit and then a 23' roll, when the battery failed. Based on the extent of posted reviews that cite battery issues, it appears that the battery is the Achilles heel of the LabelManager PnP. Purchasing a new battery is prohibitively expensive to compared the cost of the LabelManager PnP. Dymo needs to provide a high quality battery or replace the battery with a plug for a 7.5VDC adapter. I plan to modify my LabelManager PnP to power it from an external 7.5VDC adapter

Bought about 18 months ago, was doing great until it said the battery needed charged. Checked battery, voltage was showing 8.1 vdc with volt meter, found the pc board the battery was wired to bad. Several parts on the pc board overheated and fried.

I've had this LabelManager not even a year, using it a handful of times per month for naming new file folders. I liked its PnP functionality and the basic software perfect for issuing file labels. Today it stopped working and cited "battery not charging" on the software, even though it's supposed to be a rechargeable battery. I've always been mindful of turning off the unit when not in use, so I can't understand how this battery is dead. The cost of a replacement battery is outrageous considering the cost of the unit, why would I invest in a rechargeable battery with such a limited life span, and why isn't the USB plugged into a computer enough to power it? Now I have a useless product without it. I wish I had researched the reviews before purchasing this unit. Not happy, DYMO.

We have used a few different cartridges and different label sizes and it seems there is a 50/50 chance that the labels do not stick firmly on the manila or plastic folders we use. I loves my earlier models of Dymo printers that used paper labels. This one is terrible.

I bought this a couple years ago. Thought the battery died, so I bought a new battery, still doesn't work.

The product does not last; battery does not retain its charge. I have reinstalled the software MANY times. It was nice in the beginning but I expected better. The concept of a battery operated product that is supposed to be USB powered doesn't make sense to me.

Battery dead at 2 years. The unit is constantly plugged into the computer in my office. Why is there a need for battery in the first place? The battery is apparently dead now and despite being connected to power source via USB, the unit is unusable. I am not going to buy a new battery at nearly the cost of the whole unit, and it will go into trash unfortunately. It was nice while it lasted. I would have hoped it would last longer. Was used very sparingly.

It is 0% able to run on MAC OSx High Sierra. The embedded software version 1.1 is incompatible, you can start it but not write in the label field. The Label application 8.7 can install, but it does not find any printer. Dont touch this printer. It is pitty. Under OSx 10.11 it was good, but useless since 10.12.

This is a great product as a labeller that you can use on your computer. The only drawback is when your rechargeable battery dies, you are better off buying a new printer. Difficult and expensive to find a replacement battery

This device is great for what it does, but when I received it, the battery, manufactured 18 months earlier, was already at end of life, resulting in aborted prints and wasted label stock. Mine was within warranty, and I've requested a replacement battery. If your is out of warranty, and you're a little bit handy, you can open the battery module and replace the cells with these for $8 -- much better than the $25 Dymo demands.

Battery died and this website says this battery is "no longer available". Why not? It looks very similar to the others, but this *particular one* is no longer available. If the battery is dead, you cannot use the labeler. The whole thing is dead. I should, at the very least, be able to buy another battery. So, now I have to buy a whole new labeler because the battery is gone? Not happy at all. Why can't the batteries be interchangeable? Why make them each so different? Planned obsolescence.

I've used several labelers in the past and was never quite satisfied. I'll be using this one for a long time. Fortunately, I do nearly all my labeling at my desk, so the lack of portability of this model is a drawback. That said, it requires no power source other than the USB cable. So it is lighter weight than battery-operated models. If you wanted to put it in your laptop bag, it is compact and light weight, but comes at the price of requiring a computer to use it. As a labeler, it is aweso...

Best Label Maker!
By MaryDentalReceptionist
Medical receptionist...i love this product! great for printing off labels to organize patient charts. Simple to use and easy to set up for someone who isn't super computer proficient. Thanks DYMO..you guys rock!
The Dymo LabelManager PnP Label Maker for PC or Mac is an ingenious little label maker that's as easy-to-use as it is unobtrusive. With built-in software that pops up when the LabelManager connects to your computer there's no need to futz with installing a program. Just plug the Label Maker for PC or Mac into your machine and start making labels. Whatever fonts or graphics that are on your computer can be printed with the LabelManager. DYMO's D1 1/4", 3/8" and 1/2" labels are all compatible. And because it runs on a USB rechargeable lithium-ion battery, there's no need to worry about power.
