Questions & Answers

Shopper : What is the torque of the lens for use with a focus motor?KAREEM D : Hey Buddy, I don't understand what you mean by the torque of the lens. Are you asking how much force would you need to rotate it smoothly? If that's the case not much, it's extremely smooth. If this doesn't answer your question ask another question and I'll try my best to answer.DARRYL H : Im not sure if there is a certain unit of measurement youre asking for but I do know this is the heaviest and longest pull I've ever worked with. It takes a big turn to rack focus and the gear is significantly slower than any other lens. That being said.. it's my favorite lens.
Rembert F : Does it work with Sony e mount?KAREEM D : It could if you had a PL to E mount Adapter or an EF to E Mount adapter.FREDD P : Not that I am aware. It comes with Pl mount installed and an EF mount available in the box to swap out
Bubbles O : What resolution is the DZOFilm Pictor Zoom 20-55 lens capable of capturing?

Gorgeous look and character this lens produces

Magnificent lens and incredible character. Par-focal it is and it's just a gorgeous image!. It was easy to put in the canon ef-mount just 7 screws. Happy with it so far, tested it on BMPCC 6K Pro and also put it on a tiny ZV-E1 for a look on full frame(metabones adapter canon ef to sony e-mount).

DZOFILM staking their claim with this one.

This lens is the best bang for buck zoom cine lens that is comparable to a $14k Angenieux zoom lens as far as looks go.

Best CINE LENS ever for those on a budget

Best zoom cine lens ever. For the price and the features you would be crazy not to buy. It is like 8 lens in one.

Great bang for your buck

Incredible bang for your buck. The lens is lightweight considering the fact that it?s a parfocal zoom. I had no issue shimming the lens the first time but unfortunately the lens didn?t come with very clear instructions.

A 2K+ Lens that can compete with Angenieux??! Its True!

A truly affordable cinema lens that not only is well built but produces a really nice image? What a time to be alive. Not over sharp, a nice natural softness without sacrificing detail and even at 2.8, the focus falloff is lovely and the in focus subject just pops. Lens is a bit front heavy but with lighter and lighter camera bodies coming out, its almost a non starter.

DZO Film 20-70mm Lens review

This was an excellent purchase. The lens is sharp but not digital and very sturdy. It has become my go to lens for film shoots. Once you set up the siemens star chart for parfocal focus. You're all set.

Good, but not a fan.

Okay, so you?ll definitely get versatility out of these lens. They are parfocal, which is great. They also cover a wide focal length at a reasonable stop at 2.8. However, there was too much chromatic aberration\fringing on the highlights for me. I used it on an Alexa classic and I wasn?t a fan on how the lenses interpreted color (too pastel\creamy looking). For a solid camera like that Alexa, you don?t want lenses interpreting color for you. Instead, you want a good balanced set that amplifies a great sensor (balanced sharpness and neutral color interpretation). Overall, they are good versatile lenses but with too much character for me and chromatic aberration\fringing on highlights ? especially at night shooting.

To put it simply.....amazing!

When looking for lenses online it can be difficult to find the right lenses for you. You have to take reviews with a grain of salt and experiment with many different ones to find the right fit. I am blessed with having used many different lenses from pretty much all cost ranges as a DP. You always get what you paid for. Meaning the less money you spend on lenses the more time you have spend getting things looking perfect or the more limitations you have. Also the picture quality can definitely suffer. However I decided to buy and check these lenses out. I thought worst chase scenario I couldn’t get much worse than those Sigma High Speed Zoom lenses sets which seem to be a favorite for low budget starting filmmakers. I bought them about a week after they came out and while waiting for them to come in I watch some test footages which made me regret purchasing them a little. However when they came in I realized that this might be one of those weird exceptions to the rule of “you got what you paid for”. I opened up the box and saw a beautiful hard case and open it and was impressed with it’s laser cut foam, extra attachments, everything had a place and was labeled, and mounting for PL or Ef ( which is wonderful for those of you who rent out there equipment). Both lenses felt solid in design with a metal exterior shell. All of the gears have good tension and felt smooth. I decide to pull out an Arri Alexa and put this glass to the test. The glass reminds me of the Sony Cine Alta glass which in my opinion is in between the look of a Zeiss CP.2 and Cooke S7. Also to my astonishment there was little to no breathing, and when zooming in and out I stayed perfectly in focus. Which is very uncommon for a set of lenses this cheap. I even pulled out my set of Sony Cine Altas and did a side by side and noticed they even matched up the difference practically nothing. I tried lens flares... gorgeous. I tried a Bokeh test and it as pretty freaking good. To make a long story short I have used them on 4 short films, 2 commercials, 1 documentary, and in 4 day will be using these lenses on a feature. To be honest I would have even spent 2-3 times more money on these lenses and would not have felt ripped off. They are worth it for filmmaker working on documentaries, low budget features, commercials, and almost anything else you can think of. They work exceptionally well with Arri, Red, Sony, and Blackmagic cameras. I have owned these lenses now for about 6 months and also they are getting great rental use as well. I am actually think about purchasing another set and also picking up a DZO prime set as well to test them out. These lenses aren’t Cooke lens and the aren’t Ultra Primes or any of the other “big name lenses” by any means. However they are a damn good set of lenses and are probably the best set for under 10k I have ever used besides stumbling upon some old Nikkor glass. Better than Sigma, better than Rokinon/Xeen, better than vaydras, and worth every penny. It can definitely compete with 10-15 thousand dollar lenses. Don’t miss out get these lens. I don’t write long reviews however this liens set was worth the long review. Also DZO didn’t pay me to write this review.

Amazing Glass!

I found all the positive reviews about these lenses to be true. They easily hold up against $10,000+ lenses. I also like the solid build quality. Unlike the cheaper Rokonin Cine lenses, these won't break down after constant use. I am very pleased with these lenses and have no desire (or the budget), to purchase Cooke, Angenieux, etc. glass.

This is a SOLID lens and full of value.

Amazing lens. Extremely well built. Sharp at 2.8. Not too heavy. I bought it for the Blackmagic Pocket 6K, which complements it greatly. I will most likely refrain from using primes anytime soon. This lens really does it all and I’m very happy with my purchase. For the quality I would’ve expected to spend another $1000 more for it. Pick one up, you won’t be disappointed.

Amazing Lens

Great lens and it’s sharp without being clinical, it reminds me of some of my old Rokor lenses. If switching to EF mount you’ll need to use the included shims and I assure you the lens is Parfocal once this is done correctly. The only knock I have on it is that the distance scale is a little off, but a puller can compensate for it as it’s consistent. If you use a monitor for focus it will not matter. At this price there is nothing to complain about as the build is excellent.
