I'm new to astronomy and was buying last minute gear to observe the second supermoon we had at the end of Jan. Once all the required gear was in my shopping cart, I had a feeling that I should buy a low power 2" lens. It was either this OR a Tele Vue EN4170 17mm - now I can't speak for the Tele Vue as I didn't buy it, but I don't feel like I missed out not buying it. The lunar image was sharp and crisp all the way to the edges on my ED100 APO - if anything the moon was TOO bright and I wish I had a lunar filter. But even bright, there was no (apparent) loss of contrast or detail. I will be buying more eyepieces in this series!!!! I feel this was truly a great purchase, especially at that price point.

Are you an astronomy enthusiast seeking an immersive stargazing experience Discover the Explore Scientific 82 Degree Series 18mm Argon-Purged Waterproof Eyepiece, a product meticulously designed using advanced computer technology and a combination of low dispersion and high refractive index optical glasses. This eyepiece is fully multi-coated with durable multilayer deposition coatings, ensuring high contrast, high resolution, and superior flat field characteristics for your celestial observations.
Experience the full-immersion visual effect of this eyepiece, featuring long eye-relief and an expansive 82-degree apparent field. This design allows your eye to relax, making it easier to use the "averted vision" technique to study faint details across a vast field-of-view.
Constructed for durability, the eyepiece is assembled into precision machined metal lens barrels that maintain perfect alignment of the optical train, ensuring years of rugged use in the field. The eyepiece also features a twist-up rubber eye-guard that adjusts to the desired height for the observer's comfort. As seasoned astronomers know, eye comfort is critical when trying to observe at the visual limits of the telescope.
To enhance your viewing experience, all internal surfaces of the eyepiece barrel, as well as the edges of the lenses, are flat black. This design minimizes internal reflections and reduces the scattering of light within the lenses themselves.
Whether you're a novice stargazer or a seasoned astronomer, the Explore Scientific 82 Degree Series 18mm Argon-Purged Waterproof Eyepiece is an essential addition to your astronomy gear.
