Like most such things, this works well part of the time. You need a reflective surface above and behind you, preferable irregular. If you have that, you will get a very soft and even light that you cannot get with a direct flash.

Does not work with Canon DSRk

The product works great in low ceilings with low lighting. The only set back is that on the Canon T2i you can not seated all the way in, it has to hang out off the shoe in order to work.

I bought this as a gift for someone, not realizing they shot with the canon 5d, which has no pop up. IT had purchased one for my husband one before, and it was such an easy way to give him the look of off camera flash. Since I sometimes borrow his for quick fill on the fly, I decided to keep this one for myself. I might buy one of my sister and mom who have dslrs, but aren't serious enough to want off camera flash. Good stuff!

I absolutely love the warming effect that it gives and the indirect flash allows me to capture those precious moments when my baby is sleeping without waking her up. Going to buy the original one next.

Very inexpensive compared to buying a flash for my super wide angle lens. You have to make many adjustments to the camera for it to work...but as seldom as I would have to use it...it's great!

I've been using the Lightscoop to take photo's of my kids. I'm also going to be doing some headshots of my husband for a business brochure. This item is very easy on/off. The Lightscoop does what it claims to do...it adds a warm glow. Some of my pictures were a little too dark when using it, but that may be more due to lighting. I'm still learning. All around, I'm very pleased.

Will this replace a speed lite? No. Will you get better indoor flash photos with it? Most definitely.

It's great for flash fill - and a cheap alternative for the more expensive flash equipment. It's not perfect though - distance shots are difficult to get, hard to plan the lighting on non-horizontal shots.

I'm amazed. I admit I really wasn't expecting much, but the price was low enough to give it a shot. I am so impressed, and so are my friends and family. Over the holidays, everyone was borrowing it to use on their cameras for family shots. The lightscoop does as promised with the built in flash - I'm a believer!

The Lightscoop performs exactly as described. If you follow the directions, you'll get the results that are advertised. I've seen posts about this product that indicate it's difficult to use because it must be used in manual mode. For me, the tradeoff of using manual mode vs. results obtained is very well worth it.

tried it with 14 ft ceilings, no good. tried it with eight foot ceilings (standard height, white ceiling) did not make a difference. actually looked darker than without the scoop. I am really disappointed in this product. I have wanted it for about a year and it finally went on sale so I bought it. Now I wish I didn't.

Serves the purpose well. I wish it was smaller in size.

This product is amazing! I just recieved it today and I couldn't believe how great it worked. It was SUPER easy to set up and shoot! The images that I took were really sharp and they looked like something I took in my studio. It gave vibrant colors and evened out the light. I recommend this to everyone who is on a budget because this is a great price for something that works just as good as those flashes that are hundreds of dollars.

I used this little device over my pop up flash. What a difference! I got both of them and I'm glad I did.

pop-up flash can be harmful to young eyes. This unit by being placed in front of the flash deflects the strobe up in close shots and not towards the eyes. Even "older eyes" appreciate the deflected flash. The photos are even and warm as advertised.

When the party moves inside I slip on my Lightscoop. Indoor photography has always been a drag because of my camera's pop up flash. It makes my DSLR images no better than my point and shoot. Bad Flash is bad flash no matter how expensive the camera. The Lightscoop is perfect inside -- it uses the white ceiling to create FLATTERING light from my camera's built in pop-up flash unit. I have always hated the red eye and the shiny faces but this thing also fixes the harsh shadows and generally brightens the whole scene. EASY to use. Cheap GOOD fix to really ugly pop-up flash photography. Check out my Halloween pics. It's subtle but notice how the light is coming from above instead of shining in their faces like a scary flash light. Yuck!

I was very excited when Lightscoop.com announced that their product was compatible with the Olympus Evolt Line of DSLRs. I was quick to purchase the combo kit and could not wait to try it. I am very unpleased with this product. Images were darker and looked worse than with the harsh light from the pop up flash, even with all settings exactly like they recommend. I guess that my fault for taking a shortcut instead of getting a real flash unit.

I bought a pair, one with a regular mirror and one with the gold mirror. Most of the time I use the standard version, but I love the portraits I've taken with the gold mirror. This was a much cheaper solution than buying a flash unit. Plus, I'm still learning to use the camera, and learning to use a flash AND spending yet more money was overwhelming. I'm so glad I found this gadget.

Professor Kobré's Lightscoop, a bounce device for the pop-up flash on most 35mm DSLRs with interchangable lenses, slips over your camera's pop-up flash and allows you to bounce the flash like professionals bounce an expensive external flash. The Lightscoop is the inexpensive answer to natural-looking bounce flash and digital photography lighting. (Even professionals like it for casual shooting!) No more harsh shadows, bleached faces, red-eye, or cave effect from direct pop-up flash!
Reviewers tell the story:
"Bounce pop-up flash by snapping a Lightscoop over it, a little piece of plastic genius," Popular Photography, March 2008
"...just as if you had used one of those reflector umbrellas that the pros use," David Pogue, New York Times, "Circuits."
-- "It slips into your camera's hot shoe, fits right over the pop up flash, and redirects the camera's flash to a ceiling or wall. That's bounce, baby, bounce... as essential as a lens cap," DingbatMag, the monthly review of Cool Tools
"Your pop-up flash doesn't have to suck... I was stunned by the difference," Terry White's Tech Blog
The Warming Lightscoop has a gold-tinted mirror. Professionals often use a filter over the flash to achieve a warm effect when shooting portraits. Since filtering a pop-up flash reduces its power, the gold-tinted mirror warms yet still properly exposes pictures.
