Questions & Answers

Marina P : Does it work with a Canon t4i?JUAN C : Yes, you can use it with any external flash. Flash can be trigger via TTL cord or any wireless adapter.JONATHAN W : The body makes no difference. This device is fitted to a hot shoe flash. It will fit most hot shoe flashes. It will NOT fit the old Vivitar 285's. If you search youtube for videos, you can see how to use it.FRANCOIS B : Depend the flash!!FRANK J : This does not fit directly on the Canon T4i, but rather goes on an external flash such as the 580EX or 600EX Speedlites, which will work with the Canon T4i.
STEVE H : will a canon 600EX-RT fit in this?
Shopper : will this fit over a nikon speed light sb-700?MICHAEL M : You would be hard pressed to find a light this does not fit over. It was a design consideration for them... It wouldn't make sense to make a universal ring adapter that wasn't universal.WILLIAM B : I don't know, since I use Canon speedlights.HENRY M : Yes, it will.

Great lighting

I was impressed at how well this works. The ring provides a consistent even light. It also works well in addition to studio strobes.

Great light for portraits on the fly

I used this with a Canon 580ex flash, Orbis bracket, Canon 28-70 lens, Canon 1D Mark IV and Canon remote flash cord. At a high school women's sports banquet it provided perfect lighting for the couples shots. Even, soft light with great hightlights in the eyes. With camera on manual exposure and flash on ETTL, at 8-9 ft from subjects I didn't have to pump up the power on the flash unit. The light does lack punch at 15 feet or greater, and I had to revert to straight flash when shooting the stage from these distances. With the equipment I used the set-up was a bit ungainly, and it is difficult to get the Orbis unit on the flash head. Once on, it stayed on. One star off because of this hassle. At this price point there's no reason to buy any of those other flash modifiers - just get the Orbis (with the bracket).

Bulkey & High Priced But Must Have

If I had the time I would have looked closely at following a DIY path. [$] is a little steep

Produces lovely pictures

I like the pictures this produces and it's far less expensive than a ring flash but I do not like how it isn't sturdy. I wish it connected to the flash better.

Best Low-End Ring Flash

The soft light and the price are what drew me to the Orbis Ring Flash. I was looking at a variety of other ring flashes. Some were very expensive and some had harsher light, I gave the Orbis a try and I am glad I did. Although the Orbis is made out of plastic and I worry that it will break if I drop it, so far it has been sturdy. I accidentally dropped the Orbis one time and it survived without a scratch. I like the fact that I can use the Orbis in a variety of ways. Since I can hand-hold the Orbis I can walk around and use it during concerts, or fashion shoots or portraits where there is no time to set up a softbox. I recently did a comparison with my friend's Beauty dish and I think the light coming from the Orbis was better. I use my Orbis with my Nikon SB-800 and sometimes I use it with my Canon 580EX. It works well with both, even though the SB-800 is smaller. I ordered the Orbis arm so that I could mount the camera to the Orbis, but so far I have not wanted to be tied down to a tripod. I like being able to walk around and get different looks from the Orbis in a short amount of time. Recently I mounted the SB-800 and the Orbis to a boom to get the effect of a beauty dish mounted overhead. I thought the results were fine. With the Orbis off to the side of the camera using a TTL cord, I can get a quick softbox effect. The plastic is frosted so that the light is not too harsh. Some people complain that it is clumsy to use. I can see that point of view. At first it was clumsy for me too, but with a little practice, the clumsy feeling went away. I am very happy with my purchase.

This thing is great

I use the 580EXII for quick set up when I don't have the time to bring out the studio strobes. I own a ring flash set up for the studio, so this was a natural progression. The Orbis works like a charm. I bought it with the camera bracket, which makes it a bit bulky, but prefer it over mounting something else on the hot shoe. As far as construction, the first gig out it got dropped hard about 6 feet to a concrete floor, took a bounce and didn't break or crack. By far this is well worth the $200 for light modifier, I find myself using it more and more.

I love this light, looks really nice, one bad thing is i have to bump my iso to 400 800 some times, and i didnt bother getting a like attachment arm and its kind of annoying to use with out deff need to get in soon.

Great accessory to have.

The ring flash is a great produce to have when you what a more urban, outdoorsy fill to you photographs. Next to the top dollar ring flash that the pros use, this Orbis ring flash does the same job at a less price and easy to carry around.

Does the job. Happy with the orbis

So the orbis works as you would image. Also unsurprisingly it ties up your left hand if you don't have the bracket or use it on a light stand. I like to use it with a sync chord and hold it out away from the camera to use as a fill light to my key which is often an appollo soft box. As a ring light I haven't been completely amazed but that could be my learning curve as much as Anything. As a light mod I am satisfied withthe orbis

Nice Ringflash for Certain Applications

This product works great when used as intended, for quick and easy shadowless photography. I've used it to shoot candids at parties and events, but primarily as portrait photography when a ringflash look is desired. Had hoped to use the attachment arm to free up my left hand, however, I've found it much easier to hold the unit in my left hand which makes manual focus impossible as others have stated. The unit fits snuggly on both SB-600 and SB-900, but when attached to the arm and a tripod the flash tends to easily bend under the weight, making it hard to get perfectly centered up around the lens. A high quality, long sync cable is a must.

Expensive piece of plastic that rocks

This is a very useful if expensive piece of plastic. It's use is very intuitive, very easy to do. Just get an ettl/ittl cord and you're all set to really get cracking. This works awesomely for macro shots- I frequently hold it to the side to provide directional lighting. The same goes for portraits- it provides a very nice even light, on axis or off, that wraps beautifully. I should note that I've damaged mine through dropping it, and customer service with Orbis was awesome. I asked about proper repairs and they got back to me very fast and sent me a new strap (one of my original clips failed, causing this particular drop). I don't think the product is weakly made, but it's a big piece of hollow plastic so be somewhat gentle. There are lots of DIY ringflashes out there, and some of them work decently, so if you're on a tight budget look around. Otherwise this is a great tool.

Luving new Light

Different at first but once you get a feel for it. You soon fall in luv with the light it produces. Then once you learn to put it off camera you have a great soft light source.

Great supplement for portrait photograph

Cumbersome mount . . . but once mounted, pictures taken from close proximity turn out great! Due to the dispersion factor one needs to adjust the e/v / exposure compensation settings to +1 or +1.5. Cannot easily swtich between taking portrait pictures to regular pictures on the fly. Also adjusting the zoom could become an issue. ONE SHOULD USE an alumimum mounting bracket - to avoid cursing.

Good for the price, Some inconvenience

Orbis Ringflash works well with Canon 580 flash and 5D Mk II with 24-70 lens, giving nice shadowless photos. Have also used it with Sigma 50mm f1.4. Primarily I use the RingFlash with the Orbis bracket which adds to its convenience. It's a little loose and can move switches on the lens such as changing from auto to manual focus while obstructing the manual focus ring. The looseness doesn't affect the photos, though. For the money, it's OK and I would recommend this item provided that you pay attention to annoyances from the floppyness.

The Orbis is "o"mazing!!

I love it! My clients love it! The Orbis Ring Flash is one of the best (if not the best!) photo accessories I have ever used. The effect of a ring flash that usually costs three or four times more by using your existing hot shoe flash… Priceless! Set up is simple & easy to pack with your gear. There are so many uses for this product, great innovation! I cant' wait to get my hands on the Orbis Arm next!

The orbis ring flash uses your existing flash/strobe to create the same beautiful, characteristic ring flash look that has previously only been possible with expensive studio systems. Ring flash has long been recognised as characteristic of high-end portrait and fashion photography.

The preserve of the upper end of the market, studio ring flash systems cast beautiful shadowless light yet are bulky, fragile, unwieldy and costly. Conceived by a full time professional photographer and developed by top optical designers, the orbis ring flash is made from durable ABS plastics, weighs around 500g and is totally portable.

The patent-pending light-tunnel' redirects the light from your flash/strobe transforming it into an incredibly effective ring flash. A patent-pending 'one-size-fits-most' dock means that the orbis works with a huge range of flash/strobes with no need for add-ons.

The orbis enables you to take photographs with shadowless quality ring flash light - without the high costs associated with buying or renting a bulky studio ring flash. All you need is a standard flash/strobe unit and an off-camera cord (or other remote triggering method).

the orbis is handheld so neither impedes your camera system's functionality nor relies on the fragile hotshoe connection. The orbis arm, a simple kit enabling you to fix your orbis to your camera, is now available.

The orbis was designed to give serious photogr aphers an edge; by enabling you to quickly and easily take beautifully lit photographs, and to get the most out of your equipment. TTL functionality, a great price and all in a ring flash built to last.
