Questions & Answers

Craig P : Does it work on the Sony a5100 to canon efs 24mm?
Kerry S : How does this adapter work on Sony a6000 cameras?david r : It works for MF but does not fit Canon EF-S lenses so you do have a crop factor.IAN V : Interesting that you should ask, as I planned to return this Fotodiox immediately after I tested it (just never got around to doing so). Using it on a Sony a711 the focusing went haywire, would not work with either my Canon 70-200mm or Canon 24-80mm, however it does allow me to select an aperture. For me it was a Bad investment, but you may experience better luck on Sony 6000.PATRICK H : I use it for A7, A7R2. It works great with Canon L lenses. Manual focus on other lenses is ok too because of focus peaking. An good alternative to the Metabones.
ANNE J : Does this adapter allow me to autofocus when using my Canon lenses?david r : 90% NO. 5% sort of sometimes.BERND A : Yes but how well depends on your camera. I use it with a Sony A7s and Canon lenses and the autofocus is hardly usable. I hear the A7rII and A7sII do a much better job.Anthony M : Hi Anne, yes it does reasonably well. I didn't have success with my third party lenses. Don't expect lightning AF speed.

NO AUTOFOCUS ON SONY A73

I’m super disappointed that the auto focus does not work on the A73 with this adapter (after reading many reviews that it retained full functionality). Doesn’t matter what setting you use, all it does is search back and forth for focus. At least the Canon lens fits, so it got 2 stars.

It works sort of.

I used this on a Sony A7II to use my Canon lenses they all worked but each lens had its own focusing issue. My Canon 50MM 1.8 would take forever to lock on. My Canon 24-70 F4 I, it worked best overall. Trying to shoot sports was a nightmare with both my Canon and Sigma 70-200 2.8 lenses as continuous AF would not lock on and center focus worked but even the most in focus images really did not look good. While the adapter works, I would only recommend it for portrait photography.

Good adapter depending on your needs

I don't use auto focus much, so I can't really comment on its performance in that respect. What I did notice is that the feature on my Sony that auto-magnifies the image when manually focusing did not work. That said, I was pleased with it in every other respect. It seems to be well made and I am happy with my purchase.

Very good

The adapter works fine for aperture control with all the lenses I've tested so far. The autofocus is not good but not a big deal for me since I normally use the camera with manual focus. I recommend it.

Some use for a "pro" ... maybe not for enthusiasts

I rated 3 stars cuz unlike adapters that are useless, this one can be used ... for some things but not others. If you are expecting enthusiast level high tech magic, you will not find it here. But if all you need is for the auto-iris to operate and the data to record to the exif file, you can use this adapter for MF, and only for FF EF lenses. It will NOT fit Canon EF-S lenses ... altho some non-Canon APSC lenses might fit. If you use EF IS lenses, the IS will not operate ... ever. But the IBIS in the Sony bodies works and the FL data from EF zooms is transmitted to the Sony IBIS system, so that is a very useful convenience. Some EF lenses, Canon and non-Canon, demonstrate varying degrees of AF ... from slow to nothing at all. But for $100 you do get to use your EF lenses for many purposes. The removable tripod interface is very useful. The EF lens latch has minimal play, and the rear flange fits and latches well into the Sony bodies. The front flange has real leaf springs ... this is waaaaay superior to simple slotted bayonet lobes forced to serve as [very inferior] springs.

Not bad. Not amazing. But it can work... Sometimes.

I purchased this after replacing my Canon T3i with a Sony A7rii. I was not terribly invested in Cannon glass so I didn't want to drop all the money on a metabones but still wanted the option to use my Canon lenses. It doesn't really work like I wanted it to based on reviews I have seen from others, video reviews on youtube, etc. I intend to contact about returning this item as I feel my money would be better spent on something different and I'm not satisfied enough with my purchase to keep it.

Can’t find focus

I tried using autofocus, didn’t work well with my canon lens. Sometimes it’d snap into focus quick but 80% of the time it was just lost trying to find a focusing point.

Zero Stars

Bought this to connect my EF 24-105 L to a new A7Sii. Issues were immediate and frequent. While I was able to take some still photos with it — often after reseating the lens several times and/or turning the camera off and on — it would not work in video mode. I tried AF and MF, manual exposure. With the lens appearing to be functioning, pressing the video button on the side of the camera caused the camera to freeze and no video would be taken. Reseating the lens, the adapter and turning the camera off/on repeatedly eventually resulted in the camera locking up and displaying nothing on the rear screen or in the EVF. I use a Metabones dumb adapter to connect my Leica R lenses to the A7Sii with no problems. Having used that, NIkon-MFT, Canon-MFT and the Metabones Speedboosters, I'm pretty sure I'm not attaching anything or setting anything incorrectly. Bottom line: This adapter did not work for me. My primary video camera is a Blackmagic Ursa Mini, on which I use the Leica Rs with dumb adapters and the 24-105. The A7Sii is new -- a few months old -- so maybe there's a firmware change that Fotodiox needs to make? Don't know. I'm switching to the Metabones adapter. The folks at Adorama were great in facilitating the return -- thanks!!

Works great, mostly.

The adapter works with 2 out of 3 of my old Canon EF lenses. The third is a 24-60 with a USM that has to be used in the manual focus mode. Not terrible, but a bit of a bummer for shooting ski racing and cyclocross. The AF works great with the other two lenses.

works but with a struggle

Solid build quality, no problem securing or attaching. But there is quite often a lag between when the lens is attached and when the EVF will recognize the lens. So the screen is black sometimes indefinitely when I attach the lens. Yes, I take the lens cover off! I found the solution is to release and re-seat the lens and everything suddenly works! Not a big deal, but having to do this every single time you mount or turn on the camera is a pain and will add more wear to the adapter. Maybe it's a firmware issue, I'll have to look into it.

Good but not outstanding

I haven't used the adapter extensively yet, but so far it is functional. It is, of course very handy to be able to use Canon lenses on a Sony. There is a bit of fussing involved - sometimes almost seems like superstitious behavior. If the lens stops focusing....turn camera off then on again....or disconnect and reconnect adapter with lens mounted. Means sometimes missing a shot. I have also tried a Neweer. The Neweer is also well built but much lighter and seems to malfunction less often.

It did not focus at all with Sigma 35mm f1.4 lens

I bought this adapter as I have my Sigma 35mm f1.4 lens for Canon and wanted to take advantage of good glass. Unfortunately, Fotodiox adapter did not focus at all (not even once) with this particular lens. Now, I am sure it works with Canon native lenses as I see a lot of reviews by others. For me, I am returning the adapter because it does not work with the only EF lens I kept when I sold my 5D Mark III...

It works

It works pretty well, every once in a while it might lose connection. I generally turn off the camera and take off the lens and put it back on but making sure I put on the lens as tightly as possible and seems to work then. I've had the adapter for a short time so not sure on build quality for long term use. I also have the Metabones adapters and reliabilty seems to be similiar.

If you have a SLR or DSLR camera and other maker/mount lenses, the FotodioX Mount Adapters allow you to use your lenses on the film/digital camera body. Sharing lenses has some distinct advantages. Certain prime lens just can't be replaced and you save the cost of purchase on new lenses.

Fotodiox offers a range of adapters from large format to smaller format digital adapters. Adapting larger format lens to smaller format sensors (i.e.: large format to medium format, medium format to 35mm, 35mm to micro 4/3) provides excellent edge-to-edge sharpness. The smaller image field helps minimize the effects of lens distortion and aberration by using the 'sweet spot' or center of the larger lens image circle.

This Fotodiox lens mount adapter is made with high standard precision. Its all metal design and polished surface is designed to guarantee smooth mounting and long lasting experiences. It allows Canon EOS (EF / EF-s) Mount Lenses to fit on the Sony Alpha E-Mount system camera body with full communication between the lens and body. Automatic diaphragm, auto-focusing and other modes and functions will operate correctly while using this adapter. Infinity focusing is guaranteed.
