Light weight and versatile. Not crazy about the ball mount adapter not as smooth as a traditional one and doesn’t lock as securely as I would like. Overall I’m happy with it.

The extension column is a good addition to the Fiesol. I ended up buying it because the large tripod spider of the 3443 made it very difficult to shoot with my camera vertical and I shoot an Olympus EM5. Unless you have a monster of a ballhead, I don't know how you would shoot a full size camera without this. About the only thing I don't like about is the length. With this installed, your low angle shooting doesn't work. You can buy a stubby add-on to this extension, but it would have been nice if Fiesol would make something about half the length of this one. By the way, you have to buy this extension, if you want to add the stubby. Kind of poor marketing by Fiesol. But, the quality is high, and the price is low on both components, so I'd still recommend them.

I'm going to start with my dislike. The section that connects the legs to the head is poorly secured with the use of hex screws. In my experience with these legs, they do not stay secure - a terrible design flaw for a TRIPOD! It's necessary to be delicate in screwing them down - perhaps with a rubber center to connect with one might be able to tighten more securely - but with metal meeting metal, the only likelihood is loosening over time - and in short time in my experience. There is either a wobble, or as I experienced this morning, the entire unit popped out - with my camera fortunately being held in my other hand. The good is the light weight and the ease of movement with the legs. I would shop around for something more secure. Not sure why it comes in so highly rated. I wish I had a better experience to share.

This tripod has everything I want in a light weight carbon fiber travel tripod. Very light at 2.6 lb. 3 section legs for stability and quick set up. Huge payload of 55 lbs. A tall tripod with flat top plate without center column. And, 3 variable angles for the legs where the upright legs help make for easy leveling on uneven terrain. The CT-3342 has all these features, and comes with a nice bag that fits well. Also, with the legs folded down (not up over the plate), it's even more compact in diameter. Thus easy to pack and hike with. This is a great tripod for landscape work. As for issues, the only concerns I have is how long will it last, and will the 3 short aluminum tube joints that hold the carbon fiber legs stand up to the rigors of hiking and travel.

Bought this center column kit because I like to be able to make small vertical adjustments without having to adjust the leg angles or extend the legs. The center column locks into place firmly. Only adds a small amount of weight to my whole set up (legs, RSS 40 ball-head, and this center column). Would recommend it for those who like to have the flexibility of a center column.

I have been using a Bogen 3021 aluminum tripod for the last 20 years topped with a RRS BH-40 ball-head for the last 6 or 7 years. Took this on a trip to Yosemite and it was a bear to hike with (very heavy). So, decided to jump to carbon fiber. Did quite a bit of research on the usual suspects: Gitzo, RRS, Manfrotto, etc. Then, happened upon a site (I forget which) that mentioned this not so well known brand called Feisol. The data looked good, took the leap. Very happy with the tripod. It is incredibly light and very sturdy. Took it out for a night shoot for cityscapes on top of a 9 story parking garage. Windy and cold night. Shots came out very nicely. Again, very stable and not nearly so cold to the touch as aluminum is. Some "complaints" and these fall into the categories of "minor" or "just got to get used to it". . . 1. It is very light, so light that bumping the tripod may easily knock it over. No hook comes with the tripod so maybe consider buying the hook or the center column w/ hook to hang a weight or your camera bag. 2. The platform is very wide. At 3" diameter, it is much wider than the ball-head and so turning the locking lever can hit the platform. There are workarounds and adjustments that you can make so that the lever clears the platforms and leg knuckles, but I mention this for your consideration. 3. Someone else mentioned that the leg spread was not as wide as other brands. I see that this is the case compared to my old 3021. Would have been nicer if the stance were wider, imho. This last detail is the only reason for the 1 star deduction; maybe it should really be a 0.5 star deduction. Otherwise, a fantastic product, would highly recommend this for the great value and very nice build. Would have loved to get the RRS tripods but my wallet can't take the hit.

Best strong lightweight tripod
By RAYMOND H.
Great, strong, lightweight tripod. I use my Nikon 600mm f4 on it.
Because precision and reliability are paramount in the world of photography and videography, the Feisol Tournament CT-3342 Rapid 3-Section Carbon Tripod stands out as an exemplary tool for professionals and passionate enthusiasts. Engineered with meticulous attention to detail, this tripod incorporates aerospace-grade 7075 aluminum alloy in its body frame, ensuring a robust yet lightweight structure that can endure the rigors of frequent use.
The specialized carbon fiber legs of the CT-3342 are a testament to its superior strength and durability. These legs not only contribute to the tripod's impressive stability but also its remarkable lightness, weighing in at just 2.6 pounds. This makes it an ideal companion for photographers who are often on the move, providing ease of transport without compromising on support.
With a substantial payload capacity of up to 55 pounds, the CT-3342 can confidently secure heavy camera setups, including those with long lenses like a Nikon 600mm f4, as noted by one of our satisfied users. The tripod's 3-section legs offer rapid deployment and exceptional stability, allowing for quick setup in dynamic shooting environments.
Versatility is at the heart of the CT-3342's design. It features three variable leg angles, enabling photographers to achieve level framing on uneven terrain effortlessly. The flat top plate, devoid of a center column, allows for an unobstructed vertical range, which is especially beneficial for capturing low-angle shots and for users who prefer a more streamlined setup.
The CT-3342's wide platform diameter accommodates a variety of ball-heads and ensures secure mounting of your equipment. While the wide stance may require some users to adjust their technique, it is a small adaptation in exchange for the stability and peace of mind provided during shoots.
Included with the tripod is a well-fitting, high-quality bag that enhances its portability, making it even more convenient for travel and outdoor photography sessions. The compact design, with legs that fold down rather than up over the plate, further reduces its carrying diameter, ensuring it fits comfortably into your gear bag.
In summary, the Feisol Tournament CT-3342 Rapid 3-Section Carbon Tripod is a high-quality, sturdy, and lightweight choice for those seeking a durable and versatile support system for their photography and videography endeavors. Its thoughtful construction and user-friendly features make it a top contender for creatives who demand excellence from their equipment.
