Questions & Answers

alexei s : Are there spikes at the bottom of the legs?ROBERT T : I bought this item several years ago, so information may not be current. But there are no spikes on my version (which is at least 5 years old).Raghuraman N : No, they don't havePETER S : No, no spikes - rubber feet. However you can set the 3 legs fairly far apart, so it always is very stabile - we have 2 of this Feisols and we use them in rough coastal cliff environment - they work very well for that.
Shopper : I have a Canon 100-400mm L-series lens. It attaches to the tripod at its neck ring vs at the camera, to offset the weight on the head of the tripod. Would it be ok on this tripod?JEREMIAH C : I bought this tripod the past year and like the brand a lot. Bought it on advice of a friend. I wanted a pod that could break down and fold into a small space for travel. (I generally pack tripods in the suitcase and check it in the cargo section.) It is sturdy for a four section, and I like the center column hook. It's for hanging weight bags and I recommend you get one (Matthews BOA bags are good)--or anything that you can add weight to: sand, rocks, etc. the purpose of a tripod is to take vibration from the camera/lens and distribute it down the center and out the legs. I knew at the time that this was not going to be adequate for my larger glass, where vibration is magnified down the barrel. I also purchased a Sirui Gimbal which is a weight all itself, so I am buying a heftier Feisol this month to handle it. The traveller is really good for most other uses, other than long glass and gimbal heads. My next Feisol is the 3472LV Rapid with leveling center column. I have had a Gitso tripod for 35 years that is missing paint, but still works great and parts are still available. It's so sturdy it could stop a tank, but it's really heavy. I recommend your choice for backpacking and overall general use, especially air travel.Raghuraman N : I have Canon 5D III and I use that camera with 70-200L lens and Canon Flash 580x ii with no issues. Yes, the 70-200 L has a neck ring like 100-400mm L.JOHN H : The largest lens I have used on mine is a Nikon 28-300 which does ok on the tripod. I do have a 150-600 Tamron Lens that I would not use on the ball head. I purchased a Gimbal head attach to the tripod and it works fine and much easier to adjust when shooting.JAMES D : I have the same lens, and even with a 2X converter added the tripod is more than sufficient. It can take a lot of weight and works like it should. No buyer regrets. Never said that before of a tripod.JOHN RUSSELL G : I use my Canon 100-400 as you describe. Works well. The balance is much better than connecting at the camera with this lens. John GermanKEITH R : The tripod will easily handle the lense and camera. I have 70-200mm CANON, Canon 5d with battery assy. and have mounted it to the camera base and also the lense ring. Your Head is the key... Love this tripod, light, fast to setup, and I just love it. If it was me, got have a tripod head that can handle the weigh!
RANDY U : 1) Can the legs be individually adjusted to different angles? 2) Can the standard center column be unscrewed into sections to make a shorter column or do you have to buy the shorter column separately? 3) Has anyone used this tripod in extreme cold? If so, did you have any problems with it?GREGORY S : 1. Yes, one of the features I use often when photographing on uneven ground. 2. The center column is a solid one piece. 3. Coldest it gets here on the coldest of days is mid-40's. Probably not the "cold" to which you were referring.JOHN H : 1) Yes, there are three angle adjustments for each leg 2) The main center column is adjustable up and down, but the shorter column will get you very low.ANDREW R : I believe that the legs are individually adjustable. As specified in the product overview, the column is in two sections.

Great travel tripod!

Light weight, perfect compact size to put into a carry on suitcase. Very sturdy for a travel tripod. I travel across the country shooting architecture and this tripod more than fits my needs for a light weight, sturdy carbon tripod. I had a bad experience on another CF tripod and after extensive research and I settled on this Feisol. Yes, I could have spent much more on a more popular brand, after reading the reviews chose this one. Very happy that I did! I would happily recommend this to anyone who needs a lightweight, sturdy compact carbon fiber tripod that is half the price of the top brand name.

Best Travel Tripod

After seriously researching just about every travel tripod out there, I made the decision to get this tripod and am glad I did. I needed something to fit in a carry-on which it just barely does in the Mindshift 40L backpack. I also needed something with good height and strength. This tripod doesn't disappoint. I wanted the extra height for versatility. The tripod is a little shaky with both columns extended, but if there is no wind there is no problem. Having just one column extended would be stable enough against most lateral forces. The carbon fiber definitely helps reduce vibrations as well. The weight was less of a concern for me, although it is nice to have a super light weight tripod. The hook is the biggest inconvenience of having to screw it on whenever it is needed. The occasional times that extra weight does need to be added, I will likely have the patience to screw on a hook if I have the patience to add extra weight. The CB-40D tripod head does prevent the legs from folding in at their slimmest, but it fits just fine in the tripod bag which just barely fits in my backpack. The head itself is very secure with no drift. The tension knob is very convenient too. The biggest competitor for this tripod was the 3 Legged Thing Brian V3. The deciding factor was on stability since both met the height and folded length requirements I needed. Feisol had thicker legs with fewer leg/column sections. Less is more in this case. The great quality of this tripod seems strong enough to last a decade of heavy use. It is sleek, subtle, and fits the job perfectly. It operates as smooth as butter and the spring-loaded leg locks are simple and convenient. Feisol does an amazing job at offering top quality at very reasonable prices. You won't regret this purchase.
