Fantastic foray into amplified listening

I bought this DAC/amp to drive some AKG K702 65th anniversary headphones, and it does an exemplary job! Right off the bat I was surprised at how small it was. I'm not exactly sure what I expected, I guess I thought the headphone jacks were going to be the larger 6.3mm rather than the 3.5mm. It came with stick-on rubber feet that keep it from sliding around your desk, and it sits nicely next to my speaker volume controller. It plugged into my iMac and required no additional software installation, just switched my sound source in my settings and I was off to the races! I've found that keeping my computer's volume maxed out gives great sound at 2-4 on the Fiio's volume. I rarely feel the need to go past 5 as it gets too loud. I guess this bodes well for needing to power hungrier headphones in the future! The additional line out on the back is great for plugging in speakers. The rear line out seems to be independent from the volume knob, so you can still control speaker volume with a speaker controller. Both front and rear line out jacks can run simultaneously, though I'm not sure I'll ever use both at the same time. If you're looking for a relatively cheap amp that is universally well-reviewed look no further!

The FiiO E10K USB DAC Headphone Amplifier is designed to improve your laptop's audio output quality via its PCM5102 DAC chip and is capable of handling PCM files in up to 24-bit, 96 kHz resolution. It features a selectable bass boost and low-pass filter, both with circuitry optimized for a low noise floor when engaged, allowing you to customize the sound of your audio to your tastes.

The unit connects to your laptop via its Micro USB connection, which also provides it with power. It offers a variety of connections, including a front-panel 1/8" headphone jack, a rear-panel 1/8" line output and a rear-panel coaxial digital output, which allows you to send your digital audio to another destination.

DAC Chip
The internal DAC chip is a PCM5102 and can handle PCM files up to 24-bit/96 kHz while improving audio quality through via a linear internal filter, reduced delay and internal silence on changing tracks and no phase shifts.

Low Noise Floor
The unit has an optimized low-pass filter and selectable bass boost circuit that are designed for a low noise floor in all states.

Amplification Stage
The E10K features a LMH6643 op amp, which is designed for transient response and driving power.

Portable Design
A brushed aluminum shell and chassis allow for durable portable use.
