Questions & Answers

Shopper : does this film fit the Polaroid 4x5 back? Do I need the Fuji back?Charles O : The short answer is that the Acros film I bought is for ordinary 4x5 film holders; you load these in the dark and then you can use them in daylight in any 4x5 camera with standard back. If you have a camera with Polaroid film holder (back) on it, you must get a standard back to use standard film. No regular sheet film fits the Polaroid 4x5 back--just Polaroid Instant 4x5, which I think is actually not exactly 4x5. As I remember (from the past), the instant 4x5 by Polaroid took a back that also took the individually enclosed 4x5 traditional films in a sheath--called film packets. I used the individuals in a Kodak or Fuji holder, but was told they also would fit in a Polaroid holder. But the reverse--using a Polaroid 4x5 film in the Kodak or Fuji holders--would not work because these did not have necessary steel rollers for Polaroid film. So if you can find 4x5 Film Packets (Kodak no longer makes them--Fuji might; I am not sure) you can use those in the Polaroid holder back. Packets are convenient (no loading of film holders in the dark), but they are much more expensive than loose sheet film. So the Polaroid Instant film and the Kodak or Fuji individual film packets were individually enclosed in packets that were larger than 4x5. The Acros I bought from you is just regular 4x5 sheets made to load into standard sheet film holders. Graflex made 4x5 film holders that were slightly thicker (but barely fit), and held 10 sheets; after each shot, you pulled a device that brought another film into place. I doubt you will find a traditional 4x5 back sold by itself because virtually all cameras come with it. The one called a Graflok back could be used normally, but also could be easily removed and replaced with optional backs such as those for rollfilm. If you have a Graflok back with a Polaroid filmholder on it, you can switch out the Polaroid back for a 4x5 holder back. The usual second-hand dealers and auctions may have what you need for shooting 4x5 sheets.JIM S : This is standard cut sheet 4 by 5 film to be used in 4 by 5 film holders like Fidelity or Riteway. The Fuji "quick load" film which will fit in Polaroid or Fuji back is no longer made.VINITA STRAUSS L : Neither. You need a 4x5 sheet/cut film holder, for example, like this: <a href="http://www.adorama.com/TY180903.html" target="_blank">http://www.adorama.com/TY180903.html</a>DANIEL K : No, it is standard 4x5 sheet film. You will need film holders for 4x5 film. I know there are film holders made by toyo, riteway, fidelity elite that work with 4x5 sheet film. See <a href="http://www.adorama.com/TY180903.html" target="_blank">http://www.adorama.com/TY180903.html</a> for the toyo film holder. Used film holders usually work quite well.CHARLES T : No, this will not work in a 4 by 5 polaroid back. Those took special polaroid film that is no longer made. This is standard 4 by 5 inch sheet film. You don't need a special back for this film other than regular 4 by 5 film holders, those deals that hold one sheet on each side, or some sort of multi-sheet holder. I use Grafmatic backs which hold 6 sheets at a time and allow rapid changing of film.TANNER M : I haven't used a Polaroid film back in some time but from what I remember, most Polaroid film backs are for instant film with tare away tabs. Take the picture then pull a sheet out to develop while exposing the next sheet. You don't need a Fuji back for this product as you can use a cheap one from say "Etsy." But you do need a changing bag or dark room to load this film with only two sheets at a time in the film back. The film back needs two sliding doors on it. Having said that, the film is good and I got some great shots done with it. Best of luck and I hoped this helped.JOSEPH J : This is actually standard negative sheet film, not instant film, and thus will need to be loaded into a regular sheet film holder. Best.RICHARD R : Although I understand that it can be loaded into Polaroid holders, either the double-sided holders or Grafmaics are the better way to go. I'm not sure what is meant by the reference to a Fuji back - if you are referring to the Fuji Quickload holder it will not workBob A : You did not say what camera you are using. It will not fit any Polaroid holder. This film is made in sheet form and must be loaded into a standard 4X5 film holder. The holder will take 2 sheets, one on each side of the holder and must be loaded in total darkness. The code notch must be placed in the proper position for it to work properly. Any good camera store would sell used 4X5 cut film holders. I do suggest that you not by a wooden holder.KIEL J : This is sheet film not instant film as such it will fit in any 4x5 film holder no matter the brand.
Shopper : Why Did You Choose This?Scott M : Currently Adorama is one of the only stores still stocking Fuji Neopan 4x5 sheet film. A beautiful film with high resolution and awesome reciprocity characteristics.ROB D : Nice film!

Don't Discontinue This Film

This is clearly the finest black & white film on the planet. Not only should the 4x5 not be discontinued, it should be manufactured in 8x10, as well. I don't understand Fuji's thinking. Are they trying to copy the Kodak business model?

A wonderful film for any large format photographer

Over the years I have tried black and white film from most of the major players, Kodak, Illford and Fuji. While I would be remiss to say that Fuji is the best since excellent results can be achieved from the the three companies I mentioned, I prefer Fuji. The blacks are sharp, develops well with a number of developers and has a WOMDERFUL reciprocity of two minutes. I don't have to adjust for any exposure up to two minutes, making this a wonderful film for low light, or long exposures.

Perfect medium speed B&W Film!

This is a smooth B&W film that is perfect for many uses. It's best use is long exposures at night, since it has no reciprocity failure until you get past 120 seconds. Great film!
