Questions & Answers

Andy H : How many rolls of film are included?RAYNOR C : One roll is $13.95....I'd just get the 5 pack if I was you. This is incredible filmJOHN D : One roll
Shopper : Are you able to pick 35mm roll film?GERALD M : You can PICK or choose which brand, which film speed and whether it is slide, color print, or black & white when you order from the storeBRADLEY C : I am not certain what your question means? Just select the version of film that you are interested in. I selected Velvia for great color rendition and favorable reviews that it gets. There are places on-line that you can send the exposed film to for development and to have scanned on a CD so that you have a high resolution digital image. You get the best of both worlds and can't go wrongRAYNOR C : What do you mean by "pick"?
stan v : How well di it work? Where do you get it processed ? Ive been away from shooting slide film for some time.AUGUST K : Personally, I enjoy all types of Fuji film, but this stuff takes the cake. It has wonderful colors and shadows. Definitely a great film. In terms of getting it processed, that may depend on where you live if you want to get it developed locally (or mostly local). From what I've seen, if you happen to live in or near a city of a larger population or has a college offering a photography arts program, you may be in luck to find a independent shop that can develop your film. Do a google search for places that develop film in your town and surrounding area, that's how I did mine. An independent shop will take better care (usually) of your negatives, but they may be expensive since film developing is a dying craft. If there is no such luck in finding a place near you, there are photo labs that you can ship to that you can find online. They tend to have a lot of services and options, so take your time and reading and doing research on what best fits you. The prices vary as well, but remember, these people will be processing tons of film at a time and your stuff may get lost in the mix, but it might not. Before going with a lab, I'd find some photo groups on Flickr that deal with slide film, for instances there is a specific group on Flickr for Fuji Velvia actually, and ask around as to where everyone get's their film developed and what they like and what they don't like. Also, you can check out all the cool pictures the members have taken with that film so you can have an idea as to what to expect when you get your film developed. I do that a lot when I want to check out a new film to see if it's the right fit for what I want to do. Hope that helped, and happy shooting!AUGUST K : Personally, I enjoy all types of Fuji film, but this stuff takes the cake. It has wonderful colors and shadows. Definitely a great film. I do that a lot when I want to check out a new film to see if it's the right fit for what I want to do. Hope that helped, and happy shooting!ANANDAM B : I have very recently started shooting slide film. I am very satisfied with the results. I got them developed in a local pro lab and also had them scanned. Producing digital images of same quality would require tweaking quite a bit in Photoshop the images I would get from my DSLR.ERIC E : For shooting landscapes you can't go wrong, very vivid and saturated. This isn't a portrait film, so I wouldn't use it for people as they come out a little on the orange side. I process myself using Kodak E-6 chemistry. In the past I have used Tempe Camera Supply in Tempe, Arizona for processing with excellent results.CHIRANJEEB B : Velvia works well as always. I have not tested it very critically: some people say that the new Velvia 50 I am located in Seattle and there is still a lab in the area who does E6. Within the last year, I have also used one of my old Fuji slide processing mailers. So that lab still does E6 I believe.ALLEN G : Very smooth look, and high color saturation. Seems to exaggerate towards green when over-exposed. Very easy to scan. I use North Coast Photo ncps.com. Good prices and good scans. I get the "budget" scans, then pick and chose which ones to spend the time on myself. They are very helpful, I usually note to limit any exposure compensation on the scans so I can better see which are under/over/correctly exposed.GEORGE H : The film is great for landscape photography; much better color detail than any digital camera (except the Leica S2 which probably equals film). I use Cooper Imaging for development (they provide mailers on line).CHRIS S : It's a fantastic film for landscapes and using fast lenses. Great even color and fine grain. Dwayne's Photo in Parsons, Kansas will process it quickly through snail mail and at a reasonable price. The slide processing mailers Adorama sells actually go straight to this same company for processing.HEINRICH S : It worked very well, I had it processed at NCPS (see also the internet site of Ken Rockwell).VAUGHN H : Best slide film for scenics, nature, etc. I use NCPS (North Coast Photographic Services) in Carlsbad, CA. for processing, etc. It takes about a week to send film & receive back developed film and high quality scans on a CD from the East Coast. Good place.PATRICK L : This is fantastic film but you must be aware of a few things before using...first, its ISO 50 so it needs lots of light. Don't try using it in dark areas without a flash. Also, it has very vivid tones that will make skin look red so don't us it with people (or a field of red tulips - I found out the hard way). I haven't had any issues with processing labs - they all can process, put in frames, digitize, make prints, etc without any problems.HAKAN S : It's a fantastic film for outdoors and vibrant colors. The results are just great. But as a positive film metering becomes a main issue. As I do live in Istanbul, Turkey I get them processed here. Overall, it's a true legend that I can recommend anyone who wants to see great color..DAVE W : Fujichrome Velvia 50 works very well for landscapes, portraits, & city lights at night. It's ok for action shots as long as you use a large aperture and the action isn't too fast. The landscapes & portraits are awesome! I live in a rural area so I took it to the local Wal-Mart. Since our Wal-Mart store doesn't do film processing in the store anymore, they send it to a photo lab about 2 hours away that does Fujichrome processing. I've never been disappointed!STEPHEN S : Great film for its intended uses - landscapes, travel, etc. that benefit from high-contrast and high saturation. It can be finicky to expose so bracket to get the best possible look. I prefer it to any other slide film, including the 100-speed Velvias. I process through the mail at: theslideprinter.comDONALD H : It seems to be very similar to the original Velvia 50. It is very contrasty and can block up in the shadows. However it scans better than the 100. I currently have my e6 processing done by Praus Productions in Rochester, NY.CLIFTON R : I used the film in a Canon AE-1 Program, my first film SLR. I got it developed at Ritz Camera, which my local shop sends to a regional processing center in Atlanta. Definitely a very different experience but I love the look of early morning landscapes with Velvia, and the reds, which are a lot richer than the reds on my D40X. This was the first slide film I've ever shot (I'm 26).GARY L : I've given up shooting color print film and I've gone strictly to Color Slide Film. I love the the results I'm getting with Velvia 50, but If I don't look at the slide box, I can't tell whether I'm viewing slides made with Velvia 50 or Ektachrome E100G. The reason I've gone to color slide film is simply because it generates more color saturation. It's not as forgiving as color print film, but for me, that just adds to the challenge. I've been sending my film to either Walgreens or Walmart for processing. Then I scan the ones I like best using a film scanner and print.WILMA E. F : I love the saturation and colors of this film, especially for scenic shots and foliage. It is of course rather slow film and requires more light or a longer exposure. I send it off in Fuji mailers to be developed in Parsons, Kansas. The only downside to that is that they cannot digitize your pictures onto a disk because of some agreement made with Fuji, even when one offers to pay extra, of course, for this service. I wish they would change the contract, as the lab is perfectly capable of digitzing slides.

Enjoy it while you can

I still shoot film along with digital images, and color transparency film like Velvia holds a place in my heart. It produces color that it is hard to quite match with digital. Fuji is still producing it, but for how long, no one knows. Enjoy it while you can.

Adorama continues to make Fujifilm Velvia 50 35mm slide film available to customers, whereas BH Photo no longer offers it and will not comment on future availability.

Velvia 50 rocks!

This is my go-to film for outdoor shooting. The grain is fine and it picks up cold like nothing else in its class.

vibrant colors

This was my first time shooting with this film. The most difficult issue I had was adjusting to the 50 ISO. Usually I shoot on ISO 400 so it took a little bit of trial and error to get exposure where I liked. Had the most difficulty in very bright sunlight. (keep in mind all errors in exposure are entirely my own fault). But any moment I had a bit of shade the film really performed amazingly. Will definitely be using this product again in a more controlled setting.

Easier to use than you'd imagine...

My "go to" film for landscapes. Some Folks report conditions need to be ideal in order to get the most out of this film. My experiences suggest otherwise. Even in heavy cloud conditions, taking time to find the proper depth as well as shutter speed still yield pretty decent results. Everyone has their own tastes, correct?..........Also, delivery was quick and accurate, as it always is with Adorama.

I highly recommend this film

I've shot with Fujichrome 50 for years now since Kodak stopped making my beloved Kodachrome. As far as I'm concerned the Fujichrome 50 is the finest color slide film in existence. The colors are vivid and the saturation is superb. I mainly shoot nature and this film is ideal for that. It also renders flesh tones wonderfully. I highly recommend this film.

The Classic

This is the most distinctive reversal film available - very saturated, very fine grained, lots and lots of character. For landscape, not people. Somewhat hard to work with, but when the stars align, it's quite impressive. Not exactly a natural look. 50 ISO is quite slow for most hand-held work. It seems to have more limited dynamic range than Provia or Velvia 100. It is expensive - although Adorama has the best prices I've seen.

Awesome Colors!!

I use this when shooting subjects with vivid colors and this film really pops. The only con is that you need to get your exposure dialed in as this film offers very little margin for error but when you nail it the results are awesome!

Outstanding Transparency Film

I have been shooting Velvia RVP for many years and am extremely satisfied with it. The deep color saturation, sharpness, wide contrast latitude, and extremely fine grain make it perfect for any photography with the only exception of people portraiture. In any other case such as landscapes or colorful subjects this is my go to film bar none. Since this is a very slow film it's best to use a steady hand in low light or a tripod for best results. I have even used it for fireworks time exposures with great results. Transparencies can be transferred to paper enlargements if you like. Refrigerate this film on receipt. Try it you will not be disapointed! As usual Adorama delivers quickly and great customer service!

Superior with excellent saturation

This film has excellent color saturation with clean grain and faithful color reproduction. The ISO rating limits it's applications, but every situation has the right film. I have never pushed the processing with this film, so I don't know how it performs when forced. I have used this stock with superior results for more than ten years and it has remained consistent. I still shoot film!!!

Great Film

I use this film to photograph landscapes and other natural scenery. The color depth, contrast and grain are excellent. Wouldn't use any other film for this type of work. But be careful. Velvia is not very tolerant of underexposure and overexposure. You have to be pretty much dead on, or else you shot will not come out. But when they do come out, it is well worth the effort. Be sure to familiarize yourself with the Sunny 16 rule as the wide range of brightness in a nature scene can wreak havoc with your light meter.

Great for underwater macro

I use Velvia 50 slide film for macro shots in my Nikonos V underwater camera. I know if I get the critter in the framer the shot will be great. I never have any problem with graininess when I enlarge, prints are always sharp and clear. I also use this film in my housed Nikon N8 with a Nikon Micro 60mm lens and it works just as well.

The only reason I keep my film camera

Digital cameras are great, but they still have not made one that can produce the color saturation or resolution of this film. That is why there remains a demand for this product.

Magic

What can I say that hasn't been said already? Once you learn how to use it there is nothing quite like it. Not better or worse than a digital image but a different quality ,a different light. Enough said

Absolutely the best for high color. TODAY digital doesn't match. I used Velvia for years and then went digital for the last 10-15 years. Now I am going back to film. Velvia for color!!!

Excellent saturated colours

This is an excellent film for nature, landscape, and travel photography. The only drawbacks are film speed, but that's workable and a slight pink tinge on some skin tones. However, I would use Fuji Superia for pictures of people. Velvia 50 has great saturated colours.

Fuji Velvia 50

As the successor to Kodachrome 25 for fine work the lack of reciprocity adjustments makes it more economical as bracketing is much less of an issue. I just hope that digital technology doesn't make film obsolete.
