I like this ballhead so much that I bought a second one as a backup when I learned the CB style had been discontinued. These heads are strong, smooth, and don't shift on lockdown, which was the main reason I bought the first one. I tested the lack of shift with a macro lens at 1:1. I checked framing before and after lock and there was only a fraction of a mm shift... barely noticeable difference in framing. Both of my heads are this precise. This is the miracle for me. These were discontinued because most users didn't know how to set up the tension correctly. Once you set the tension, locking is a quick half-turn. You see, the knob takes a very long time to feel tight, and that confuses many people. Once you have tension set and understand it doesn't need to feel super tight to be solid, you'll love it. The pan knob locks solidly. Everything is smooth and precise. You can mount just about any clamp you want because they don't lock these down. The head has a female 3/8" thread. I hope the new GX series is just as good. I know that lever lock is easier for people to understand.
